excellent job colorizing this.

Thank you :>
It's my first time trying this, and it took me several hours to finish it!

I considered coloring the picture but yeah... it is a beast of a time commitment. The skin tones on the standing guy are especially impressive.

I also started to colorize it and after an hour I realized there was still 99% left of the picture, and someone else would probably also do it much better than me. I was not wrong. Very impressive work

Well, the table (and the carpet) is out of perspective and that ruins the authenticity of the scene (in my opinion) but the thing that shows me you have the skills is how you handled the removal of the object that covered part of the upholstery building and window. Good stuff.

u/JoshuaHaunted Apr 11 '14
Right on, I appreciate you pointing that out to me, and for the compliment as well :-)

Oh crap you're right D: I think it'll pass as the bottom of a side table, right? And thanks, I'm glad you like it!

Wow! The details are amazing!

Thanks. I started off with just one alteration and kept finding more and more little add-ons I could do.

this... this is beautiful.

Thanks! Took me two whole days to do, I'm really proud with how it turned out! :)
3
u/NeoTerran Apr 11 '14
AHAHAHA, not the most artful one on here, but definitely the most entertaining! (that being said, still very well done)

I don't know shit about image editing, but out of curiosity what software did you use to make this gif? It's awesome :)
2
u/The_Gay_Dalek Apr 18 '14
Thanks! :) and I used photoshop at first to remove the head of the man on the right, and the two other men to the left and make them separate photoshop files. Then I edited out the machine and made it it's own file. Following this, I imported all of these files in to After Effects and maneuvered them around using different tools to get all the effects you see. After adding in a few "robot parts" and other misc. objects, I was done :) glad you enjoyed it!

u/-templeton- Apr 09 '14 edited Apr 10 '14
Properly removing objects is challenging but the result is not exciting enough.
Lesson learned in previous battle, added 'sad Keanu' for extra value!
See this gif for easy comparison of before and after view.
Edited a few details. See Hawfinch' comments and reply.

Apr 09 '14
I certainly appreciate your photoshop skillz. Also gif making skillz.
2
u/-templeton- Apr 09 '14
Thanks again. The gif making is really not a skill though, that takes only a couple of minutes. What I like is how the [placement of the] right shoe of the middle guy is messing up so many of these entries. Must be hard finding something at the right angle to cover up the central piece correctly.

Apr 09 '14
Every time I make a gif in photoshop it is huge and looks like utter shit.
3
u/-templeton- Apr 09 '14
In general, the bigger a picture, the harder it will be for photoshop to restrict the number of colors to 256. When you decrease the resolution, you will get to a point where the quality of the gif suddenly increases dramatically. I had to resize mine to 800 px wide to get a good result, here is a 1280 px wide gif I also made. The background is just horrible.

That sir/ma'am, was excellently spotted. When I removed the area indicated here, the leg seemed to miss a surface. At least that's what it looked like to me. So I actually added the extra surface to it (2A) to give it depth. I always assumed the other shadow (2B) was the (correct) shadow for the lower part of the leg but strangely enough the lower leg also seems to miss depth when I removed the shadow. I probably should now remove the extra surface as well even though it looks a bit odd (only when you look at it for quite some time in full resolution). But no matter, love the fact that you picked up on this...

Another nit to pick: The window of the upholstery store is blurred in an unnatural fashion. That's the only fault I can find though. Excellent job.

u/archetype1 Apr 10 '14
Took me a minute to spot Keanu.. Nice job!
3
u/-templeton- Apr 10 '14
sad Keanu's happiest when he can find a good, obscure place to be sad in peace.

Again, well done. I remember yours from last battle (also well done). You should just always use a title like, "In an alternate universe" or "The timeline where the butterfly wasn't killed", something like that.
1
u/-templeton- Apr 10 '14
Thanks very much. I don't really get the timeline or butterfly titles unless the result is somehow supposed to be an alternate reality or something, but I wasn't trying to be alternate-y. I removed almost all dominant vertical objects from the picture, aerospace is the business of traveling vertically, and the 'Outer Limits', which aired (in white and black) in about the same year this picture was taken, had as part of its intro the phrase "we control the vertical", to indicate that they controlled everything you saw on the screen. I thought it was subtle yet to the point. =)

I also shrank r2-d2
2
u/-templeton- Apr 09 '14
r2d2 was never that big to begin with, but you cut c-3po's foot in two halves! If George ever finds out...

A surprising amount of wall-e's this time around. EDIT: yours is my fav of them though
1
u/-templeton- Apr 11 '14
The shoe with the plant in it confuses me though. Then again I never watched wall-e so it might just be from the movie as well =)
2
u/Crazyty10 Apr 11 '14
In the movie, that's supposed to be the last plant life left, and a sign that earth is no longer a shit-hole, and is therefore fit for life
1
u/-templeton- Apr 11 '14
Aha so it wasn't just a random boot with plant! Maybe I should watch the movie, lots of people using wall-e, he must be very popular =P

Don't mind siouxsie, gonnapie. I think he/she is just jealous he/she didn't think of making the shadows red, and now it's too late... =P
1
u/gonnapie Apr 10 '14
Haha. Though it still took me some time to finish editing the picture. After coloring the details, I changed the brightness and overal color of the whole picture, didnt intentionally turn the shadows red, but i kinda liked the result : D

I like the idea. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that in the 1399 part the color/texture of the heads is not the same as the bodies'.
1
u/still_thinking_ Apr 11 '14
Yeah, once I got going in that section I realized that political correctness was going to be my enemy, and that I wasn't going to be happy with whatever decision I made. So I just went with the least offensive, rather than darkening the heads or lightening the bodies.

Same reason why the sonic screwdrivers are still green and blue. Just so it seems cool.

2
u/jakegest Apr 09 '14
very far in the background left of the upholstery store, under the striped awning in the shade
2
u/ajohns95616 Apr 09 '14
Holy crap that's subtle.
2
u/-templeton- Apr 09 '14
Lol. So, since we both had such a 'brilliant' idea, how does this now go? Do we split the sad Keanu extra bonus points for this battle? Does this mean we both win? Would a diCaprio trump a Keanu? What about two Keanu's in the same picture? As you can see I'm still new to this place and trying to figure out all the unwritten rules. =)

God damn it. I had the other Star Wars one. It's almost identical to yours :P Well, the C3P0 is in the exact same spot. EDIT: also, looking at yours compared to mine... lets just say mine has the mini version of R2-D2. I can't believe I got a detail like that so wrong. http://i.imgur.com/DkyQoa1.jpg

Oh yes it did. I was going to fix it but I was stumped on how to do it. One leg over and one under, both on top, both under. So I gave up and left it as is.
