I really like your take on the photo. The lighting also works out really well for this picture. Nicely done!

Nice touch on the ape face.
How did you get the pattern on the shirt? It looks like it was there all along.

It was similar to the description I provided here pacman patterned kilt for Battle #87. The biggest difference was that after deforming & shading the pattern to match the texture & shape of the shirt I duplicated the layer and applied each differently:
- one layer was desaturated to monochrom and used to apply luminance to the shirt
- the other layer used multiply to apply the color

A clever idea, and fits the poses perfectly. :) Could do with some shadows under the man's arm and instruments though. Otherwise, very well presented. Great job.

How did you do the really awesome lighting on the mother and baby near the lava? Just brushes by hand?

Pretty much, I tried using the inner shadow effect in Photoshop, but that didn't look quite right, so I made a new layer, dropped the opacity and did it by hand. Looking back on it I could have done a better job, but it works well enough.

This may not look like a lot, but im very proud of the rework on her shoulder. Love how these battles force me to try stuff i would normally give up on!
