Operation | Closed Operation: Amish Space Program
The Operation
Last week, we went from Classic to Modern. This week, throw that baby in reverse, cause we’re going the other way:
Find a contemporary or futuristic image, and push it back in time, give it a Low-Tech make over.
Including your primary source image is encouraged. Here’s an example:
Best of luck.
Previous Agent
Congratulations to /u/Suckassloser, who was the winner of the previous Operation: Van Gogh Transport with the entry Relatively thinking with Portals. Congratulations!
Prizes
The winner of this week’s Operation will:
Receive one month of Reddit Gold! Woohoo!
Get a number added to their contributor flair.
If you this is your first win, your standard flair will be replaced by this winners' flair. On your second win, you'll get this winners' flair, etc.
Get to keep the trophy for a week, after which it's handed on to the next winner.
(more information on flair here)
The Rules
Submit your entry as a comment to this thread.
You can post as many as you want.
All entries must be an original image (or GIF when appropriate) created by the submitter. Images unaltered by the submitter or not created by the submitter will be shredded into little tiny pieces, placed in a baggie, and handed to a junkie. wink wink
Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.
- If you see anything inappropriate or entries not properly tagged, either report the comment or send a message to the moderators.
To vote for an entry, just upvote the users comment.
You can vote for as many different entries as you want, but please do not downvote. Downvotes will not be counted when deciding winners.
Upvotes should be based on quality of entry, creativity, and accurately reflecting the assignment. Of course, we cannot control how you choose to vote yet, as our mind control device is still early in its beta phase.
Every entrant gets a contributor flair.
These will be handed out by a bot, but due to our comment hiding system, sometimes it misses people. If you entered but didn't get one, just send the mods a message, and we'll fix you up.
The Schedule
All entries will be hidden for the next 72 hours (+/-, until late Saturday, August 30th) Around that time, voting will open and all entries will be visible.
Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.
Contest mode will be disabled on Monday.
From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other reddit thread).
This mission will end on Wednesday, September 3rd.
Next week's Operation will be posted the same day.
Best of luck.

I really like this one. They Aztec style works surprisingly well applied to Star Wars. Like that you left part of Vader's mask too. I think a white stone background could have pushed it over the top though. Nice job.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

I think you might be right. I had played around with one in fact, but I never managed to get it to 'fit'.
They Aztec style works surprisingly well applied to Star Wars.
Totally agree. I just came upon it by process of elimination. I'd seen Samurai Vader, Bushido Vader, etc. etc., never a Vader from a South American culture. I'd love to see a series of illustrated characters in the style. Maybe once I get over my current obsession with Photoshop battles ...
Cheers.

Hahaha, I hope not, I've quickly come to really enjoy seeing you're entries in the Weekly Battles and Operations. I really like this one a lot, I always appreciate when people take a totally unique approach. Though I know, this can really become addictive. If you do make some 'shops on the side, you can post them to /r/battleshops as a single 'shop or a whole series.
I'd love to see a series of illustrated characters in the style.
Nice. This could be the makings of a future Operation!

Amazing! Where did you get the wood textures? They look very nice.
1
u/yourfriendamy Sep 01 '14
Thank you. A few different places. You can always find some great woodgrain patterns, brushes, etc. on deviant art.
2
u/epicman24566 Sep 01 '14
Thanks! Also did you use the Displace filter to make the wood look like it's wrapping around it?
1
u/yourfriendamy Sep 01 '14
I did not use the displace filter at all. Some layers are blended differently than others (mostly 'Multiply'), and I added shadow with burn tool in certain areas, but the wood grain itself is so busy that it blends pretty easily with the source image since that image is so clean and the shadows are contrasted so nicely.

OP posted a giant.gfycat.com link, which means more bandwidth and choppy gifs instead of jiffy gfys. Read more about it here.

How did you take the original item out??
1
u/derpko Sep 03 '14
The iphone covered most of it. For the top part of the flip phone I took small sections of the shirt and stretched it over the top part of the phone.
