Operation | Closed Operation: Not Mild Mannered
The Operation
Find a person or group of people as your subject, and reveal their true superhero identity
Your subject can be someone famous, or just your average Joe.
Your superhero can be an existing one, or one of your own imagination.
- Here is an example:
original: U.S. President Barack Obama
entry: Frozone in the Oval Office
Good luck everyone.
Previous Agent
Congratulations to /u/lumm0x, who was the winner of the previous Operation: Panavision with the entry "I just punked you, kid! lol". Congratulations!
Prizes
The winner of this week’s Operation will:
Receive one month of Reddit Gold! Hell yeah!
Get a number added to their contributor flair.
If you this is your first win, your standard flair will be replaced by this winners' flair. On your second win, you'll get this winners' flair, etc.
Get to keep the trophy for a week, after which it's handed on to the next winner.
(more information on flair here)
The Rules
Submit your entry as a comment to this thread.
You can post as many as you want.
All entries must be an original image (or GIF when appropriate) created by the submitter. Images unaltered by the submitter or not created by the submitter will be kindly inserted into a giant vat of acid.
Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.
- If you see anything inappropriate or entries not properly tagged, either report the comment or send a message to the moderators.
To vote for an entry, just upvote the users comment.
You can vote for as many different entries as you want, but please do not downvote. Downvotes will not be counted when deciding winners.
Upvotes should be based on quality of entry, creativity, and accurately reflecting the assignment. Of course, we cannot control how you choose to vote yet, as our mind control device is still early in its beta phase.
Every entrant gets a contributor flair.
These will be handed out by a bot, but due to our comment hiding system, sometimes it misses people. If you entered but didn't get one, just send the mods a message, and we'll fix you up.
The Schedule
All entries will be hidden for the next 60 hours. (until Saturday, October 4th) Around 18:00 UTC, voting will open and all entries will be visible.
Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.
Contest mode will be disabled on Tuesday.
From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other reddit thread).
This mission will end on Wednesday, October 8th.
Next week's Operation will be posted the same day.
If you have any suggestions for future Special Operations, please send a message to the moderators. All suggestions will be given consideration. When your idea is used, credit will be given.
Enjoy, yo.

NO! Fuck off, this is incredible and should be against the rules. I've watched it 3 times in a row because I couldn't believe someone made this for a goddamn photoshop battle. I'm standing up for this, like literally pushed my chair away from my desk, stood up, and saluted my screen. If I can give you any feedback for this work of art... Add some midi music and sound effects, it'll lift up your work to a whole other level. Seriously WELL DONE!

Thanks for taking the time to write that. Feedback is a big motivator for me.
I couldn't believe someone made this for a goddamn photoshop battle.
Yeah, the whole thing took me about 10 hours I think. That's a lot longer than I usually spend on a battle but sometimes you get an idea and need to see it through. It was 2AM the morning of the deadline when the gravy train idea hit me. I didn't get to bed until 5. It was worth it, at least in terms of personal satisfaction.

I agree. I don't know a thing about audio, but I'll see what I can do. If it turns out, I'll submit it over at /r/battleshops.
Thanks again for the kind words!

Haha that gravy train kills me

u/lumm0x Oct 07 '14
Glad you liked it!
I wondered about putting "gravy train" and "drumsticks" in the entry title just to make the puns obvious, but decided I'd be ruining the fun, even if it meant fewer people would get it.

It's very impressive. I feel like we need to make a separate battle just for you to win every week. You're killin' it!

My morning so far:
1) Clicked on /r/photoshopbattles
2) Clicked on "Operation: Not Mild Mannered"
3) Clicked on your entry.
4) Giggled louder than I wanted to in the office.
5) Bookmarked the Youtube link
6) Watched repeatedly during the weekly sales conference call.
Thanks for making someone else's day a little brighter.
Cheers!

That's really amazing! Great job!
What software(s) did you use to make that piece?
It's amazing how you did that using the stuff from your sources!

Photoshop
- create / modify the sprites
- export sprite animations to image sequences
Apple Motion
- move the sprites around
- export the animation
In passing, if you're looking to make something similar, I'd recommend After Effects. I just happen to have a copy of Motion on my personal computer, so I used that.
Glad you like it!

God dammit lumm0x, you done it again.
NO! Fuck off, this is incredible and should be against the rules.
I don't give a shit about most gifs but this is so well done it should be in a category of its own. Like r/gifbattles.
Last time I checked this was a photoshop battle with 99% of submissions being static images. This is just cheating, man. Have another trophy you dirty animal.
EDIT: Internet sarcasm fail. Unless otherwise stated, gif's are fair game. Hats off to lumm0x for the excellent execution.

I'm going through the old operations that I never saw, and I just came across this. THIS is absolutely incredible! THIS is what I've always loved about this place!
10/10, man; the wit and creativity is on a whole different level.

I like this one! It must have taken a lot of time.

Thank you. Yes, it did take awhile, and I almost ditched the idea midway through, I'm glad I didn't because it made me laugh. But then again, i have a pretty weird sense of humor.

Even with super speed, he's still in the way!
I'm pretty sure this goes without saying, but here is the source.
