The winner of this weeks battle will:

The Rules

  • Submit your entry as a comment to this thread.

You can post as many as you want.

  • To vote for an entry, just upvote the users comment.

You can vote for as many different entries as you want, but please do not downvote. Downvotes will not be counted when deciding winners.

  • Every entrant gets a contributor flair.

These will be handed out by a bot, but due to our comment hiding system, sometimes it misses people. If you entered but didn't get one, just send the mods a message, and we'll fix you up.

  • Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.

If you see anything inappropriate that's not tagged, either report the comment or send a message to the moderators.

The Schedule

  • All entries will be hidden for the first 48 hours.

  • Voting will open on Tuesday, after which all entries will be visible.

Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.

  • Contest mode will be disabled on Wednesday.

From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other reddit thread).

  • The battle will end on Saturday, October 24th.

Next week's battle will be posted early Sunday morning.

Best of luck, everyone, and have fun!

That is really good, what inspired this?

Thank you. Honestly, this was one of those rare times when I had no plan in place when I started. I just started throwing things out there to see where it would go and this time it seems to have worked out.

How did you do this ?

The short simple version is that I lightened the horses and pasted a zebra over them in overlay blend mode. I pasted a zebra pattern over the carriage in lighten blend mode.

Longer version: I already had a layer mask made from the first entry I did (“streets”), so I used that as a clipping mask and found an image of a zebra that was roughly the same angle/perspective/etc. as the horse. I dragged that image into the clipping mask and transformed it (scale and distort) to fit, and then did some puppet warping, mostly on the legs. Since both horses are almost identical, I copied layers for the horse in the back, adjusting as necessary. The zebra layer is set to overlay blend mode. Then I masked out the reins and stuff. I adjusted the horse layer curves to lighten all of the horse and carriage so that the horses were white, and all the details were visible on the carriage. Drivers and horse tails were masked out of that adjustment layer. The background curves are lowered in the midrange, except for the trees. There’s also a black and white adjustment layer on the carriage, but it’s barely noticeable. There are some desaturation adjustment layers for the zebras. The zebra pattern on the carriage is set to lighten overlay blend mode, 50% opacity and I masked out the trim at 50%. There’s about 20 layers used, including adjustment layers, but it didn’t need to be that many. It ended up with so many because of the disorganized way I put it together, figuring it out as I went along.

I’d upload the source images but imgur appears to be misbehaving.

Dude this is epic! But your final touches with the darkness detracted so much from the amazing details, i would've scaled that back a bit, if it wasn't for the creation gif I would not have known how good yours was

Thanks! Yes I know it's rather dark but I thought that the details were too sharp and I wanted it to look more artistic..

Here's a brighter, sharper version

This one looks great, it's definitely a contender

I think all of your nice detail in this brighter version would work better if the sky were replaced with something a lot darker. Perhaps grayish storm clouds that recede more into the background and don't distract so much from the foreground. Really nice job tho!
