The first was really well done. The second... "Wank alot" nearly made me crap myself laughing. Well done.

Hahaa, yeah, like that. Only in my mind, he doesn't apologize. He's just cursing under his breath.

Great shop, can't tell if he takes shoveling snow seriously or just hates being outside in the snow.

Fantastic! Thanks for the creation gifs on your posts, can usually learn one to two tricks from them.
2
u/DrWankalot Mar 30 '16
Thank you! I tried to take screenshots for each critical step both for personal reference and for the gif, glad you found it useful.

Why not mash up two different cultures? Samurai out of china
6
Mar 30 '16
But, that's a Chinese swordsman not a samurai.
Source: Just watched Red Cliff and Crouching Tiger

u/yama_raion Mar 31 '16
The sword and headwear certainly look Chinese. I don't mind that it was mislabelled, given the context. Still glad someone mentioned it though, as it was grinding at me.
1
u/EricinfrontofPc Mar 30 '16
I wasn't sure.. in the description it said samurai, so I went with it.
1
u/Daxxinator Mar 30 '16
Don't let that comment irritate you. The description could have been "Dude with long knife". The task was to use that source image, which you did. In a creative way. No Trump, no lightsaber - I like it. (I like lightsabers just as much as the next guy, but your idea is just more fitting in my eyes.)

u/EricinfrontofPc Mar 30 '16
Thanks. I thought it works well with the play on words. I like the irony in it.

Spent some time on this one, made it 1920x1080 so that it can be used as a wallpaper if someone desires to do so :)

u/MrFlopkins Mar 29 '16
GODdamnit I hate that guy so much, but your effort shows. I personally would have liked to see HIM get shoved off, but well done.

Creation Animation Robe Textures The real ones were hand drawn on a template, but this shows how I repeated them from a repeating pattern without re-drawing each one.
3
u/AlphaBoner Mar 30 '16
This is insanely good! The pattern on his kimono and socks is so well done. The pattern gets bigger and smaller in all the right spots, did you have to warp those areas to achieve that effect? I'm assuming you drew the rest of him and painted in the colors and shadows?

Beautiful work!
2
u/i_am_a_bot_ama Apr 03 '16
Thanks Captain, I appreciate that. :)
1
u/CptSasquatch Apr 03 '16
It looked like you manually pieced the pattern together in the creation gif. After editing, you could select all and go to Edit>Define Pattern name it and hit OK. Then it'll show up as a custom pattern when you Edit>Fill
Probably not a huge time saver but every little bit helps.

It has been 259 years since the last evil Watermelons had been killed by the great Samurai. Everyone thought they were extinct for oh so many years, until signs of two new evil Watermelons had been found. A Samurai named Susej was the chosen one to end the threat. Now, in the middle of the dark woods of Nolem, the last two Watermelons were slaughtered by his hands. After that he drank some Capri Sun and ate a cracker. What a life.
The End
Feedback is welcome!

u/AlphaBoner Mar 30 '16
I like the transition from the dark forest to his back particle fade. Did you use some sort of photoshop action like sand storm? I think if you took out the watermelons you would have a pretty nice wallpaper right there. The story didn't do much for me, I rather have the image tell the story. Good job though!

Looks cool, good job! Did you use different brushes and paint over the original?
2
u/Bdills24 Mar 30 '16
Thank you! And yes, it's a combination of Sumi-e brushes and a few regular paint brushes with a lowered stiffness.

You really captured the cheese factor of low-budget advertisements. Well done.
3
u/BoomerKeith Mar 30 '16
Thank you. There's a lawn service that's local to me, and I see their advertisements from time to time, and I always cringe at the nonsense they include. When I saw this image, it was perfect for a faux advertisement.

Thanks, I dig your entry too. The background source is lower res than I would have liked and I kinda got lazy with this one. It's been a busy week, haha.

Nice work on the small details like the eyes and the blue glow coming from the light saber.
1
u/SloganWade Mar 31 '16
Thanks man. I feel like I could've done more, but eventually you've just gotta let it go and accept what you have, right? Lol.

Pro Tip: Always hold SHIFT when scaling an object so it doesn't get distorted...unless you want it distorted, of course :)

Good job. Not sure if this is what you did but a simple way to achieve a realistic light-saber look is add a red outer glow (in blending options) to the white part of the light saber. Try adjusting the opacity, spread, and size of the glow so it looks more realistic.

A very exasperated tug-of-war competition
it's my first time so please be gentle
1
u/MrFlopkins Mar 29 '16
Great job for your first submission! I like the idea, although I probably would have found another person for him to compete against ;)

Suddenly, Unosuke began to doubt it was a brilliant idea to bring a gun to a sword fight.

I think it's supposed to be Drumpf, and it ain't gonna end like that. They should both be cutting off the other's head.
