Prizes

The winner of this weeks battle will:

The Rules

  • Submit your entry as a comment to this thread.

You can post as many as you want.

  • To vote for an entry, just upvote the users comment.

You can vote for as many different entries as you want, but please do not downvote. Downvotes will not be counted when deciding winners.

  • Every entrant gets a contributor flair.

These will be handed out by a bot, but due to our comment hiding system, sometimes it misses people. If you entered but didn't get one, just send the mods a message, and we'll fix you up.

  • Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.

If you see anything inappropriate that's not tagged, either report the comment or send a message to the moderators.

The Schedule

  • All entries will be hidden for the first 48 hours.

  • Voting will open on Tuesday, after which all entries will be visible.

Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.

  • Contest mode will be disabled on Wednesday.

From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other reddit thread).

  • The Battle will end on Saturday, May 28th.

Next week's battle will be posted early Sunday morning.

Best of luck, everyone, and have fun!!

It's like magic! Very well done.

2

u/theLAZYmd May 28 '16

This would have been perfect if you'd done this

Dude! Awesome work with the parallax of the ground structure; getting that complex 3D texture couldn't've been easy :O

Also love the subtle details of the outside (left) and outside bricks (right). Really well done effect :)

This is actually fucking cool and well done, good sir.

2

u/The_Pumpking May 26 '16

Thank you very much! I haven't done many of these at all, so it took much longer than I expected lol

u/DaminDrexil May 28 '16

Woah... that is awesome!

I'm loving your use of colour here; especially with the green reflections. That missing roof panel is the icing on the cake, though; really makes it feel like the upper roof structure has rotted away!

It's a pity there such stiff competition this week, 'cause this work is more than worthy of a win :/

really really nicely done. the details are striking.

2

This is very nice. love the little details :)

u/crappenheimers May 26 '16

Very cool scene, so many fine touches.

u/BoomerKeith May 24 '16

I did a Star Wars themed entry too! I have a question for you: PixelSquid?

1

u/DaminDrexil May 28 '16

Damn, man! I missed a lot of the details at first glance, but holy shit that's dense :O Those half-buried stormtroopers make it really dark.

And that TIE fighter in the background... I love how you managed to make it physically fit the space; to say nothing about matching the perspective / lighting! The light panels / pillars were a nice touch, too :)

What was your inspiration for the icicles?

wow, I think we have a winner! really great job, especially with the details!

I can't wait till I see this one pop up randomly in my facebook feed closer to election time. great work!

2

u/[deleted] May 26 '16

haha, thank you! I figured it could be symbolic of what's to come...

u/crappenheimers May 26 '16

I love the layers on this one!

this needs to win. IT NEEDS TO. UPVOTE NOW!

u/scotchosaka May 25 '16

Damn dude. I had the same idea but about 200% less professional.

2

u/graphleek May 25 '16

Thanks. I came up with that idea at the last minute. I had been working on another one that ended up sucking when I thought of this. It took about 10 layers to get a blend that looked natural to me. Not as easy as I thought it was going to be (as usual).

3

u/scotchosaka May 25 '16

My first idea also turned out to be above my skill level so I came up with the tank and then added an animation because it seemed a bit lackluster. Anyway, upvoted!

5

u/graphleek May 25 '16 edited May 25 '16

Thanks for the vote! I made this for you to show how I made this. There's easier ways, I'm sure, but this is the way this one was done. Maybe it will give you some ideas. Skill level is temporary.

EDIT: As I was making that, I started wondering why I went through the trouble of making that transparency. It's because originally I started off with the fish lower, overlapping the building more. Later I decided to move the fish up to improve the composition, so it was created something like this.

3

u/scotchosaka May 25 '16

That was quite helpful indeed! Classy move man. Thanks!

2

u/BoomerKeith May 24 '16

I like this one. I really like the idea of the before/after effect.

2

u/kimlandsiedel May 25 '16

Thank you Mr. BoomerKeith... I like the real then/now pics of historical places & times. It's very cool... For Example

2

u/BoomerKeith May 25 '16

I like those kinds of pictures too! I think that's why I like your entry so much.

1

u/kimlandsiedel May 25 '16

The past/present photography is kindof creepy and sad, but I think that's what makes it cool too...

2

u/crappenheimers May 26 '16

Oh whoah. I wasn't expecting that. very nice.

I'm not trying to be a dick because you can submit what you want, but if you're actually trying to win a weekly battle, you're going to have to put in a little more effort.

1

u/ilkongrauti May 25 '16

Hehe, I have to admit that it took a while.
