Discussion r/travel Topic of the Week: Rooms with a view!

Hey travellers!

Show us your favourite photos of your 'rooms with a view'! You don't need to take this too literary: it's fine if you took them from your tent, your hotel balcony, or the hostel bar patio too.

This post will be archived on our wiki community topics page and linked in the sidebar for future reference.

Only guideline: If you link to an external site, make sure it's relevant to helping someone travel to this city. Please include adequate text with the link explaining what it is about and describing the content from a helpful travel perspective.

Example: We really enjoyed the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. It was $35 each, but there's enough to keep you entertained for whole day. Bear in mind that parking on site is quite pricey, but if you go up the hill about 200m there are three $15/all day car parks. Monterey Aquarium

Unhelpful: Read my blog here!!!

Helpful: My favourite part of driving down the PCH was the wayside parks. I wrote a blog post about some of the best places to stop, including Battle Rock, Newport and the Tillamook Valley Cheese Factory (try the fudge and ice cream!).

Unhelpful: Eat all the curry! [picture of a curry].

Helpful: The best food we tried in Myanmar was at the Karawek Cafe in Mandalay, a street-side restaurant outside the City Hotel. The surprisingly young kids that run the place stew the pork curry[curry pic] for 8 hours before serving [menu pic]. They'll also do your laundry in 3 hours, and much cheaper than the hotel.

Undescriptive I went to Mandalay. Here's my photos/video.

As the purpose of these is to create a reference guide to answer some of the most repetitive questions, please do keep the content on topic. If comments are off-topic any particularly long and irrelevant comment threads may need to be removed to keep the guide tidy - start a new post instead. Please report content that is:

  • Completely off topic

  • Unhelpful, wrong or possibly harmful advice

  • Against the rules in the sidebar (blogspam/memes/referrals/sales links etc)

View from my Airbnb balcony of Florence Duomo.

The airbnb had a nice 180 view of florence, I am only showing the Duomo view.

Is that a filter or does the Duomo actually have those strong dark lines making it look sketched?

It has lines like that and it looks quite nice upclose!

View from our room in Istanbul last year. The hotel is the Arcadia Blue Istanbul. We found a reasonably cheap deal for it at the time ($100 per night).

I feel that Istanbul is the perfect city to experience sunrise/sunset.

Sure, the Riomaggiore room is an Airbnb under Ai Pesci 201. The Costa Rica one is the Arenal Observatory Lodge.

Stayed in Arenal Observatory lodge last year. We got about 10 minutes of a clear view of the top of the volcano, otherwise it looked just like your picture.

We were in London two weeks ago. My wife surprised me for my birthday with my daughters awaiting me on board The Harpy houseboat on the Thames. This was our view.

We also stayed in Malta and this was the view from our balcony.

And one more for the Airbnb we stayed in in Vittoria, Sicily.

Stayed in Positano, Italy (Amalfi coast) twice. The first time we had this view. The second time (two years later) we had this view. I loved them both (obviously), but I particularly enjoyed the second one.

Going in april...mind listing the second ones information?

I’d love the info too!

I wasn't sure if you'd gotten the notification as I already replied to another user here, but we stayed at Hotel Palazzo Talamo in Positano. The rooms are really small (standard rooms are 10 m²), but the view is amazing! I just wish I'd had a better camera with me.

1

u/queenjacko Canada Oct 25 '18

Thank you so much! Small rooms are worth it for the view.

1

u/Iminlovewithsweden Oct 25 '18

Sorry for the late reply. It's Hotel Palazzo Talamo in Positano. The rooms are small (standard double rooms are 10 m²) but the view is incredible! I couldn't get enough of it, really! I woke up at 6 am just to see the sunrise! The hotel itself is very clean and the lady at the reception was super nice!

Did the rooms have an en-suite restroom or was there a common one you had to use?

2

u/Iminlovewithsweden Oct 31 '18

They have a private bathroom. :)

Osaka 1 - Osaka 2 There's nothing interesting in these photos to most people, but to me, the view blew my mind. Where I come from, the tallest building is 277 ft (or 27 stories) and there aren't many high rises. And now I want to know how people from huge cities with a bajillion high rises feel when they go to farm country for the first time lol.

This is the best view I've had, at the Refuge Adèle Planchard in the French Alps. At 3129 m, it's one of the higher refuges in the Alps, after a beautiful hike from the parking lot near the Col de Lautaret.

I booked this room last year after seeing it recommended on this sub. We paid €285 Euro for 3 nights total. Hôtel du Château, Annecy, France. Room number in the comments of the original post.
