Source While taking a proposal photo, this man accidentally walked in the way. Now it is being photoshopped into other hilarious situations.

u/shufflehuffle Jul 23 '13

thank you! I've been wondering what everyones been referencing. I'm always late to the party.

73

u/torogadude Jul 23 '13

I want this man to do an AMA.

"Why did you jump in front of the camera? What were you thinking at the time?"

50

u/bob-leblaw Jul 23 '13

Thinking has nothing to do with it.

12

u/P10_WRC Jul 23 '13

Time has nothing to do with it

Once you begin to propel yourself forward it can be quite difficult to stop quickly. I imagine he started moving, noticed the picture attempt, and his upper body received and responded to his panic while the rest of him was stuck in a decision gate conundrum while his brain tried to figure out whether to propel him forward more quickly or recoil his entire body backwards.

The photo was taken in between the upper body receiving and reacting to his panic and his lower body taking whatever action his brain was about to send it.

4

u/torogadude Jul 23 '13

Ah, the donkey-between-two-hay-stacks-starves-to-death story.

2

u/KneeGrowsToes Jul 24 '13

A.K.A "retard mode"

6

u/JoshuaBanks Jul 23 '13

I highly doubt this man realizes how famous he has recently become.

7

u/AFC_north Jul 23 '13

Actually all of these pictures are from a thread over in /r/photoshopbattles

66

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

I can't blame the man for walking in the way. Why would you propose in the middle of a large crowd like that? It's such a terrible place to do that.

17

u/mst3k_42 Jul 23 '13

Well, the castle is pretty cool to look at and is great for a background shot, so that was probably his plan. Of course, once you get there in person there's a million fucking people in your way and you can't even move around, let alone get a good picture of someone standing in front of it.

22

u/CisForCondom Jul 23 '13

If you alert Disney ahead of time there is actually a designated spot in the gardens where you can propose with the castle in the background. You can get a photographer to take pictures for you too. (Source: this is how my friend's husband proposed).

But I guess if you'd rather not shell out the extra cash for it, then dropping knee in the middle of the crowd works too.

5

u/TheCountryRedditaria Jul 23 '13

Some girls would like the randomness of that, it's probably not about the cash. I'm sure if you can spend multiple thousands of dollars on a ring then a hundred bucks or two is not a big deal.

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

There are certain times of the day/year when it is nowhere near that bad. This just want planned well.

1

u/kitthekat Jul 23 '13

You are pretty cool to look at and are great for a background shot, so what now hot shot?

7

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

Exactly, there's like zero personal space at that part of the Magic Kingdom. In fact the last time I was there, someone rolled a wheelchair into the back of my leg and I fell to the ground in pain. Our group also tried to do a group shot in front of the castle and it took 10 or so photos just to get something without people walking to the shot.

I feel bad for the guy who walked into the shot because its unavoidable. It's easy to easy how busy the park was that day just by looking at the photo. It's not as though he walked out of his way to ruin a proposal shot, there were just too many people there and no place for him to go.

3

u/Harry_Hotter Jul 23 '13

To be fair, that's a rediculously popular place to take photos.

There's at least a proposal a day there.

Also, the Disney photographers -- the ones who take park photos for you and give you a ticket stub to retrieve later for $50 -- are always standing right there taking the same shot.

That spot is the photo zone, big time.

42

u/dontlistentome5 Jul 23 '13

Why does everybody in the background look so unhappy in that photo? They're in MOTHERFUCKING DISNEYLAND CHEER UP!!!

23

u/ldhotsoup Jul 23 '13

I'm guessing it's the end of the day and everybody's all funned out.

21

u/kevmo77 Jul 23 '13

In the 90s I had a pass to Disneyland for a couple seasons. My friends and I would get there about 6pm. It was just about the time all the parents that had really young kids were calling it quits. It was like a throng of grumpy zombies shuffling aimlessly out of the park.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

Bullshit. No such thing as "all funned out" while at Disneyland. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPY AND LIKE IT, DAMNIT!

11

u/Shocking Jul 23 '13

That's Disneyworld. The weather there would make anyone shit themselves out of despair.

22

As someone that lives in Florida..... I agree with you.

as someone that just moved to florida

same.

fuck this state

15

u/bitches_love_brie Jul 23 '13

As a Missourian who wants to move to Florida, fuck that. The highs here are higher, still 100% humidity, except in 5 months, I'll be digging my car out of a the snow.

18

I know. And the entire time they're on vacation they're thinking "Oh my god, do people live here? It's like breathing through a damp paper towel all day."

Floridian here, The answer to the muggy air is just stay inside all day.

Peak around Thursday? No no, it has peaked, today. People will have tired of it by Thursday.

Why does their prayer line curve? They should all be facing the same direction.

15

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

Probably just misaligned. Usually there's marks on the carpet or whatever to keep the lines straight, but it seems since they are outside its just a little off.

6

u/flanintheface Jul 23 '13

They should probably get this thingie.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '13

Theres an app for that!

1

u/seekfear Jul 23 '13

It's not misaligned, it's aligned toward the Kaaba; Direction, location and curvature of the earth are accounted for.

17

u/GroundhogExpert Jul 23 '13

You're not serious, are you?

20

u/themdh Jul 23 '13

1

u/turkishgamer Jul 24 '13

People on the right towards the end of the carpet don't want to put their head on the pavement so they kind of bend inwards. Makes it look like its curved.

22

u/Dustin- Jul 23 '13

Oh fuck shit sorry fuck this isn't where I parked my car.

8

u/donat28 Jul 23 '13

what's the occasion for the first pic? I recognize the location - manhattan, nyc around east 60th and 5th ave. I know there is a Moroccan or some other embassy there, but never seen this before.

15

u/Hawkbit Jul 23 '13

probably overflow from a mosque, they can get very crowded during holidays and sometimes they extend the prayer area to outside to fit everyone for the service.

7

u/donat28 Jul 23 '13

that seems really unlikely - there is no mosque on 5th and 60th...it's all diplomats and embassy staff, plus this is really weird as it would block a major cross street.

This is right on the corner of the apple store, central park, the hotel from home alone (name escapes me) - it must have been either some protest or other event that closed down the street. In the background you can see some green structure - that would be right in the middle of 5th avenue

5

u/ShanghaiNoon Jul 23 '13

Maybe protesters stopping for a prayer break?

2

u/ogleogrebear Jul 23 '13

My guess is that it was a public gathering of some kind. Maybe a demonstration, a public celebration related to ramadhan that started recently or something connected to the flags hanging in the background. Its most probably not your average prayer, women dont tend to turn up to those. On a side note, the guy with the megaphone should pick a better place to stand. Its not appropriate to walk in front of someone who is praying, let along a congregation.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

This man is destined for greatness.

6

u/w00tkid Jul 23 '13

I'm thoroughly enjoying this new guy.

15

u/Stupidiseverywhere Jul 23 '13

Hahaha this happened to a friend of mine when he came with me to prayer once.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

once.

It didn't work out well?

35

u/no-more-mr-nice-guy Jul 23 '13

Allah damn it, Steve!

5

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '13

I was working with a Muslim friend on a school project. I stayed over for dinner, and after dinner I was on their computer checking for when the next bus was to go home.

After checking for when the bus was coming, I wanted to ask my friend where the bus stop was. It was at this time that I noticed the house was completely silent, despite his entire family just being behind me cleaning up after dinner.

So I started calling my friend's name, rather loudly, over and over again, no response.

I got up from the computer table and walked toward the living room, calling his name again, and I noticed his entire family praying in the living room.

Awkward.

Having smelly feet would be very embarrassing in that situation.

31

u/gowahoo Jul 23 '13

you gotta wash before the prayer, and since those are 5 times a day, it's really hard to get smelly feet. see more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wudu

7

u/MeloJelo Jul 23 '13

You have to wash your feet 5 times a day?

14

u/glooreddit Jul 23 '13

Not necessarily. If you make wudu ( washing your hands, arms, head, and feet) and can manage to keep it then you don't have to do it again for your next prayer. If you fart, sleep, use the toilet, and some other things, then your wudu is broken.

→ More replies (4)

4

u/gowahoo Jul 23 '13

Yes! There are exceptions and different schools of thought have different ideas on those but most people just do the full wudu for each prayer.

5

u/alt_ctrl_delete Jul 23 '13

What happens when somebody farts?

18

u/gowahoo Jul 23 '13

I can't tell if you're trolling, if so, carry on.

If not here's an answer! You have to be in a state of ritual purity for prayer. That state is broken by passing wind, so it is unlikely people would fart during the prayer. If you had to, you'd either hold it, or excuse yourself from prayer go to the bathroom, take care of business, purify yourself again, and do the prayer on your own. Ritual purification is called wudu, more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wudu

2

u/aa__ Jul 23 '13

Also, if you fart during prayer and its soundless and odorless, you can continue with the prayer. But you will have to do wudu for the next one.

u/gowahoo Jul 23 '13

Not every school of thought agrees with this.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '13

Actually, it's not uncommon for someone leaving the rows or going between the rows during prayer (for example, if one broke ritual purity during the prayer he has to leave immediately)

Normally, when a Muslim prays alone, the place between him and his Sujud point (where he puts his forehead during Sujud - prostration) is sacred and the punishment in the Hereafter is heavy for those who violate that space. That's why it is Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet, sal Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam) to put a Sutrah (a noticeable object of the size of the saddle or larger) in front of you to accentuate that space.

During collective (Jamaat) prayer, only Imam have to have the space in front of him intact and the rest of congregation covered by the sanctity of that space. So if you come to the packed Mosque during Salah (prayer) you are permitted go between the rows during the prayer to find a place in the corner.
