Here's the little guy on all 7 continents! http://imgur.com/a/DFhF0

Edit: Wow! Thanks for all the kind words. Hopefully the little kid gets a smile out of these as well.

Also, I'm pretty sure I slept through high school geography and it was late last night when I made these. Let's try again - http://imgur.com/LzQzsgf

Edit 2: Hahaha, my inbox is blowing up with "Easter Island isn't a continent!" More South America!

Cecil the lion was killed by a Minnesota dentist.

And an Icelandic dentist helped eliminate the Three Lions.

25

u/inconspicuous_male Jul 01 '16

This is going to be on a clickbait site. 100% chance

→ More replies (4)

8

u/Haverholm Jul 01 '16

Oh, they totally would. Probably not today though - but soon...

5

u/dwmfives Jul 01 '16

Give them a few hours, they have to wait for these comments to die down so no one calls them out.

3

u/moak0 Jul 01 '16

I mean, it'd make a good article. Yeah buzzfeed sucks, whatever, it's not like they would tell the whole story without mentioning reddit. It wouldn't be their worst article by a long shot.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/digitalgonad Jul 01 '16

There's a UK page called The Poke that is basically just yesterday's reddit. I guarantee it'll be there tomorrow.

6

u/Haverholm Jul 01 '16

... So it's named after a (dead?) Facebook-feature and rips stories off of Reddit? I hate modern media.

EDIT: Nope, "poking" on Facebook is still there, it's just well hidden. Thank god.

5

u/Raveynfyre Jul 01 '16

Surfing Reddit and damn near anyone can easily become one of their writers to submit articles for them. It pays something like $50 or maybe $75 per article.

It makes surfing Reddit profitable as a side job.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '16

Does that mean...they'll actually have to credit Reddit?

3

u/CommanderGumball Jul 01 '16

I hate how exactly correct you are.

Fuck Buzzfeed.

3

u/JEWCEY Jul 01 '16

"Salons HATE this elephant - find out why!"

2

u/herrojew Jul 01 '16

Not clickbait-y enough

2

u/haraldkl Jul 01 '16

Actually, there is already a childrens book on that, though it's a rabbit not an elephant: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_(Kinderbuch-Serie)

2

u/Procrastin8r1 Jul 01 '16

I was thinking more along the lines of "This Little Boy Lost His Stuffed Elephant and Now It's Traveling the World" or "This Lost Stuffed Elephant is Traveling The World and It's Adorable/You Need to See It"

12

u/Haverholm Jul 01 '16

It's not as clickbait-y, though, because your title kinda reveal a bit to much to the reader about what happens. ""Travels the world"? Nah, I've seen that movie", the reader might think.

You need to only tell/show the reader/viewer the basic setup and then tell them that they won't believe the conclusion. The the reader/viewer goes "What? What!? What won't I believe!? Did he receive a thousand elephants? Did he get to ride a real one? Did he find it?! Did he get to meet the president? Did it all end well or did it end tragically? I. MUST. CLICK. THE. LINKY!!!!"

... and because most internet users behave like this (myself on occasion as well), Buzzfeed is crazy profitable.

Thank you. It bugs me when people reference a picture by its album placement, especially if the album more than a few pictures long. I don't want to have to go back and count down to the 17th picture.

Disney employees did this first. When a kid left their stuffed animal behind at a Disney hotel, an employee took it around to several rides and photographed it actually on the rides and around the park. Then he got the film developed and sent the photos of the adventure in the mail along with the toy. I think there was also a letter explaining how much fun it had been to escort the toy throught the park and to "thank" the child for letting him have the adventure.

101

u/blood_bender Jul 01 '16

Disney, and the Ritz Carlton before them.

Man as adults one of our most sacred responsibilities is to make sure kids have their childhoods. Even if it's not your kid all adults are programmed to do what they can to make a kids childhood magical.

It's also why we turn blood red with rage when freaks hurt children.

124

u/crystal193 Jul 01 '16

Amazing! They should make these into postcards so he can receive the photos in the mail. :D

181

u/Brucenme Jul 01 '16

Well - I'd offer to print out and send the kangaroo one to him from Australia (Australian stamp and such), if they wanted and had a P.O box address.

29

u/davehone Jul 01 '16

I'd suggest get the parents to print and write them out and send them out to be returned. A bit more hassle, but then each would have the same handwriting and could be personalised to the child (talk about his favourite foods, games etc.).

53

u/PhillipTheSutton Jul 01 '16

He's an elephant, just comment about the people who helped him write the postcard

6

u/davehone Jul 01 '16

Did not think of that. :) Still, would be good if the parents could have input to the messages.

48

u/grumpycatabides Jul 01 '16

There would be a simple explanation for the differing handwriting. You see, the little elephant had to get someone to help him write out the postcards as he dictated the messages at each destination, since he couldn't write them himself. Elephants don't have thumbs, silly! 🐘

Edit: Oh, and he doesn't need money to travel because little stuffed elephants get to travel for free. That's why there was never any extra charge for him when he came along on trips with the family. :)

20

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '16

I'm in the UK and happy to do the UK one! :)

Actually, maybe the parents / OP could have them all printed in their country (US?) and then write the postcards (so as the handwriting etc looks right) and a handwritten address then place in an envelope and post to the people around the world who will open envelope, take out the postcard and put a local stamp on, then stick it back in the mail to head back!

If we timed it right this could be pretty sweet! ;)

How do you do the lighting so well? Would love some tips.

16

u/defff_metal Jul 01 '16

I didn't do anything to the background photos. As far as shadows created by the elephant, I used the dropper tool and selected a tone from a shadow that already existed in the scene. Then with the paintbrush, I used a soft setting with low opacity and layered the shadow until I thought it looked okay. I also thought it was important to change the brightness and contrast of the elephant. I used the levels settings to achieve that and just kind of eyeballed it. I'm no expert, this is actually my first submission, so I still have a lot practicing to do.

2

u/cyrilio Jul 01 '16

I second this.
