Prizes

The winner of this weeks battle will:

  • Receive 3 months of Reddit Gold, courtesy of the admins.

  • Get to choose next week's stock image.

  • Get a number added to their contributor flair.

If this is your first win, your standard flair will be replaced by this winners' flair. On your second win, you'll get this winners' flair, etc.

  • Get to keep the trophy for a week, after which it's handed on to the next winner.

    (more information on flair here)

The Rules

  • Submit your entry as a comment to this thread.

You can post as many as you want.

  • To vote for an entry, just upvote the users comment.

You can vote for as many different entries as you want, but please do not downvote. Downvotes will not be counted when deciding winners.

  • Every entrant gets a contributor flair.

These will be handed out by a bot, but due to our comment hiding system, sometimes it misses people. If you entered but didn't get one, just send the mods a message, and we'll fix you up.

  • Winners can enter Weeklies for which they have submitted the stock image, but they will not be eligible to win.

  • Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.

If you see anything inappropriate that's not tagged, either report the comment or send a message to the moderators.

The Schedule

  • All entries will be hidden for the first 48 hours.

  • Voting will open on Tuesday, after which all entries will be visible.

Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.

  • Contest mode will be disabled on Wednesday.

From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other Reddit thread).

  • The Battle will end on Saturday, August 22nd.

Next week's battle will be posted early Sunday morning.

Best of luck, everyone, and have fun!!

Trippy! Awesome work man, love the attention to the lighting on each repetition

Thanks man!

Great job on yours, I like how you did the painting effect, especially on Kurt's head!

2

u/Maymayfish Aug 19 '20

Thanks man, yeah was pretty happy with Kurt, I wasn't too happy with Krist, lost a lot of details on his face, and the Grohl pic was too low quality to begin with to get the same details. Overall was pretty happy with the results though, cheers 🙂

This is deep

u/RoyalPrinceSoldier Aug 19 '20

hahahaha! I'm curious, how would you interpret the meaning of it if you were to analyze it for a sec?

Also great job on the cards, so seamless!

I get a real feeling of introspection looking at this.

Edit, and thanks!

can I have a go with this one? :)

my interpretation:

Immortality is granted through cloning multiple identical clones every ten years. but this time one of the new clones is unable to flush the old one and thinks: "did I die the first time I was cloned? "

great work regardless of the meaning! I will surely use the three panel format, it's great.

Whoa that's really interesting, thank you!

Honestly the initial reason I made it a panel was to show a close-up of the wet face/hair and body which only one of them is, and then I thought it might be an interesting way to make a "story" hahaha

1

u/Maymayfish Aug 19 '20

Thanks man,

Better job than I could have ever done

I don't know, I have seen you work I reckon you would have put together something pretty awesome! Your piece this week is very out of the box thinking and superb execution! Awesome as always dude 👍

:D

But no way, your paint-look skills are vastly superior to mine!! Have you ever done a tutorial? I've tried using a few youtube videos, but they never come out looking right.

2

u/Maymayfish Aug 19 '20

I actually thought about it for the tutorial operation a while back, I guess because I do things on the phone my methods are pretty sketchy compared to other tutorials jumping between apps and what not. I might try to put something together at some point. I found DrWankalot did a pretty good tutorial which I use as a backbone to my method but each step is largely by feel.

http://oneksy.com/how-to-create-vintage-hand-painted-effect-with-photoshop/

My way is a bastardisation of this method

2

u/staffell Aug 19 '20

Thanks! I'll have a play around at some point

I've been experimenting with advanced luminosity masks in my workflow with photoshop. I have also made an action for LUM, that has helped me cut back on my time with isolating darks, midtones and highlights, its very powerful tool to use to isolate with this method.

Absolute mindbender, how do you come up with this stuff? Awesomeness :)

3

u/neigesdantan Aug 19 '20

this was quite a linear process: I find hockney's paintings to be filled with sensual tension, so I wanted to explicit that with a graphical alteration: switching from perspective to isometric projection, changing point of view and graphical rules so that the two characters could get close as they want. Thank you so much for such a sweet comment, I greatly value your opinion! :)

3

u/texasfld57 Aug 19 '20

u/neigesdantan This is Damn good! you gave perspective to an artistic painting! nicely done,I like it!

This seriously melted my brain.

I have to admit, when I first saw the image for this weeks battle I was surprised the mods allowed it, but after seeing some of the entries, it opened my mind a bit. Hats off to /u/artunitinc for choosing the image, I really enjoyed thinking differently.

2

u/neigesdantan Aug 20 '20

Thanks! I hope that the mods will always be more flexible with the image picked for the weekly battle. It's so nice to feel that extra power and choose something unexpected.
