Please be sure to tag NSFW entries appropriately.

The Schedule
All entries will be hidden for the first 48 hours.
Voting will open on Tuesday, after which all entries will be visible.
Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.
Contest mode will be disabled on Wednesday.
From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other Reddit thread).
The Battle will end on Saturday, August 22nd.
Next week's battle will be posted early Sunday morning.
Best of luck, everyone, and have fun!!

:D
But no way, your paint-look skills are vastly superior to mine!! Have you ever done a tutorial? I've tried using a few youtube videos, but they never come out looking right.

I actually thought about it for the tutorial operation a while back, I guess because I do things on the phone my methods are pretty sketchy compared to other tutorials jumping between apps and what not. I might try to put something together at some point. I found DrWankalot did a pretty good tutorial which I use as a backbone to my method but each step is largely by feel.

My way is a bastardisation of this method

Thanks! I'll have a play around at some point

I've been experimenting with advanced luminosity masks in my workflow with photoshop. I have also made an action for LUM, that has helped me cut back on my time with isolating darks, midtones and highlights, its very powerful tool to use to isolate with this method.

Absolute mindbender, how do you come up with this stuff? Awesomeness :)

u/neigesdantan Aug 19 '20
this was quite a linear process: I find hockney's paintings to be filled with sensual tension, so I wanted to explicit that with a graphical alteration: switching from perspective to isometric projection, changing point of view and graphical rules so that the two characters could get close as they want. Thank you so much for such a sweet comment, I greatly value your opinion! :)

This seriously melted my brain.
I have to admit, when I first saw the image for this weeks battle I was surprised the mods allowed it, but after seeing some of the entries, it opened my mind a bit. Hats off to /u/artunitinc for choosing the image, I really enjoyed thinking differently.

Thanks! I hope that the mods will always be more flexible with the image picked for the weekly battle. It's so nice to feel that extra power and choose something unexpected.
