The Schedule
All entries will be hidden for the first 48 hours.
Voting will open on Tuesday, after which all entries will be visible.
Contest mode will be enabled for another 24 hours. This will sort comments randomly, obscure vote counts, and automatically minimize child comments.
Contest mode will be disabled on Wednesday.
From there on out, each comment's vote total will be visible, and entries can be sorted by karma (just like any other Reddit thread).
The Battle will end on Saturday, January 30th.
Next week's battle will be posted early Sunday morning.
Best of luck, everyone, and have fun!!

Great style! I'd be interested in how you did this :)

Cheers mate, it's a pretty sloppy technique (completely made up along the way), there are probably other ways to achieve the effect, and I don't know how well it would translate to PS, but basically;
Follow these steps to get to a hand painted look
Threshold layer overlayed blend mode normal, low opacity, merge
Apply a smudge filter to duplicate of threshold layer, then overlay blend mode normal 50% opacity
There is an app called PS Capture that has an edge detection mode, I used this to get a Clean drawing of the image Then overlay blend mode darken to add some nice lines to the image
Mask on faces with colour and light adjustments
Slap it on a background colour then use a splash shaped eraser low opacity to give it the finish
Then I just found an evil dead logo PNG and stuck it on.

Thanks! I'm a huge fan of brute forcing technique along the way in PS.
I think this has inspired me to try some more 'artsy' style submissions in the weeklies, moving forward. I'm too stuck in my ways.

this is great on many levels. I'm particularly fond of edited pictures that don't look edited. this could easily trick anyone if presented out of context.

I wondered if anyone would attempt something like this! I was going to do a full face swap between the two (with matching colourisation on both), but then quickly realised it was way out of my skill range. This is super cool.

Thanks! in hindsight a face swap would have made this funnier... even just giving the sculptor the same teeth as the sculpture. I assure this is well inside your skill range! it's just colorization plus liquify/morphing, try it sometime! š
