Nowdays all laptops are heading towards "uLtrA sLiM" design with exactly 1 (one) external port, unergonomic keyboard with 5mm gap between the keys with travel depth of 0.1mm, thanks to apple and the fools willing to buy that overpriced gay hipster piece of hardware

I'm just mad that mine doesn't have an ethernet port so I can connect the line to it instead of the router

It's hipster to want a laptop with 12 hours of battery life that makes no noise and doesn't get super hot?

u/CowboysfromLydia 14h ago

Yes because at that point you have something thats functionally very close to a phone, and you might as well use that instead.

u/illhaveapepsinow 12h ago

That's just about the dumbest shit I've ever read.

u/CowboysfromLydia 12h ago

tell me 3 things you do with your macbook that you couldnt have done with your phone.

u/illhaveapepsinow 3h ago

Programming, spreadsheets, play football manager 2014.

u/Intelligent_Tip_6886 12h ago

Any laptop worth owning gets just as hot.

Thinkpads haven’t been great for years now but it’s hard to find anything good these days. I mostly use a desktop but I’ll probably buy a mac for travel once my L380 dies.

Everyone knows the only good laptop maker has been and will always be Panasonic.

u/pirivalfang /lit/izen 7h ago

Honestly I'm considering buying a newer tough book so I don't ever have to worry about a laptop for another 10 years.

Exactly IYKYK

Lenovo is a chinese brand.

IBM sold their thinkpad brand to them, so now all of them are made in china with cheap plastic, horrible quality control, questionable security and even worst customer service and support.

is this a CCP sponsored ad? Cause yes, china wants american business to use their chinese hardware

u/thisguy_right_here 7h ago

These have been on image boards for over a decade by now. Loved my T420 though, it carried me through college.

The placement of the fn key on thinkpads is why I won't buy another.

Ctrl v isn't working? Oh the fn key is where ctrl should be.

Terrible design flaw.

Are there any Thinkpad users out there?

u/Traffalgar 1d ago

Had them for a couple jobs, pretty solid and worked great. Not too heavy. Still work so it reminds me of it so nope.

u/Siegfried_Chicken 1d ago

New ones from Lenovo suck.

u/Traffalgar 1d ago

Yeah the older one, like the HP were so strong. I used to play WoW at work it was running fine.

u/edbods 1d ago

man, i remember using a hp one for work back in around 2015 or so, i think it was a 15 inch one with a numpad. i think it was an older probook or something, definitely twice as thick as a probook G9 and the edges were the same height all around (i.e. front edge facing the user wasn't raised higher than the back, keyboard wasn't tilted/slanted when placed on a flat surface), I think it even still had a dvd drive.

it was built like a tank and weighed just as much, but you could definitely bludgeon someone to death with it then go right back to looking at spreadsheets

Anything below a 17,3" laptop is not worth my time and I always chuckle at the idiots that have to deal with their cramped and tiny keyboards and the shitty corporate hardware with barely any ports for peripherals.

Others may laugh and scoff at my portability but I laugh at their inability to work efficiently and the frustration and tears when they imagine having to carry *gasp* 500g more in their backpack. I have my HDMI port on board, everyone else needs their $500 Dell docking station, that fails every 5 minutes plus 15 different adapters, transmitters and Usb-Hubs just to set up a presentation.

Oh you could need a little bit more of screen space to Optimize a workflow? Try to crank up the resultion without text zoom then, while I not only have my virtual desktops but room to spare on screen.

Fuck corpo hardware, my way is superior.

I have a T400 and T430. Haven't used them in over three years, though. I think I upgraded the T430 screen to 1080p, or whatever the hack was.

I have one (320) and it was pretty good for college.
