I always wondered if that was an ADHD thing, i constantly find myself not finishing games.

I assumed it was because so many games are trying to be "forever" games these days.

I have to mark BG3 as my favorote game, because its literally the only one that I can finish a character without starting 5 others. Still have never fully completed Skyrim, and I though that was my fav.

I can't bring myself to even try to continue playing BG3.

Its that almost top down, 4 party system where you need to take into account everyones abilities even outside of combat.

Its too much.

I can understand that. I practically grew up on Turn-Based rpgs, so it just felt natural.

Yeah i think it depends on what you grew up with.

My childhood games were 3D platformers, 2D platformers and character action games like hulk ultimate destruction and the godzilla fighting games.

My first RPG was fallout 3

Well if we go with fantasy RPG then that was technically fable, would you call that an RPG? Maybe the classic version of one, level up, gain new skills and experience the story.

But for one with choices and stuff it would be oblivion.

But i still remember actually taking time to consider my words in dialog in fallout rather then knowing i can reload a save all the time.

I didnt play Oblivion until much later. Very fun, but the people are too goofy looking for me to take what they say seriously. Except Patrick Stewart.

I hyperfocused on cookie clicker and did ALL achievement, we can be psychopath both ways, never finishing games or finishing games that we shouldn't

From what I can tell, that is indeed an ADHD thing... Like it's cool in the beginning, we enjoy the process but we don't care much about ending because it won't give us dopamine to finish the "task". Like "that was enjoyable bc it was new, you piece of media is really cool, I absolutely love it, there's still a half but bye!" For me also personally it's an escapism thing, if I liked something and I left a chapter unread or like 5 minutes of the last episode, it kinda freezes in my brain so I can feel that this thing is still with me till I'll free it but finishing 😅 Probably not a healthy stuff

Yeah that makes sense, on all the points you mentioned.

Cause i was able to fully complete the spyro reignited trilogy by getting every single thing you can in all 3 games because the process of doing that was enjoyable and noy frustrating.

But it was the process of doing it rather then finishing the task that was enjoyable.

Same with completing all the single player stuff of splatoon 2 and 3, i enjoyed it because i got new things in game rather then finishing the task itself.

One thing that makes me leave games unfinished is when i get to a really frustrating part of a game, drop it because i got irritated and then never pick it up again.

Honestly the only time i ever felt good when overcoming adversity in a game is when i played the darksouls games, somehow that series had me feeling great after overcoming a very difficult boss.

Lol comics are my guilty hyperfocus distraction when I really need to be working on something else, often binging through series in 12 hour sittings only getting up to pee every once in a while and feeling the impending doom of not finishing what I actually need to do on time

Bro there are so many games, books, and shows that I never finished no matter how much I enjoyed them. In middle school, I thought I was so smart for reading some dense chapter books, but I would only finish like a third of them max.
