What is up with people thinking that they will get refunds/replacements by requesting/threatening to do so in the product reviews?

Makes my head hurt.

Here’s another one, people leaving bad product reviews because an order was lost or delayed in shipping.

I don’t know why but the fourth pic is so funny to me.

Agreed. "What, you've never seen a person actively not liking their fish oil before?"

This also brings up another thing i see all the time. People leaving bad reviews and complaining about damaged "non returnable" food items and other "non returnable" items. And make it seem like whatever the case is they cannot get a refund due to this.

The thing is, in such a situation you have to either contact Amazon or the seller. "Non returnable" does not mean if it arrives damaged/expired you just got scammed (like 99% of people in such a situation think) but you just gotta use your BRAIN A TINY BIT LIKE GOSH HUMANITY IS SO DUMB.

it's not returnable for safety reasons and because it cannot be resold. Like what are they gonna do with a damaged or open food item? It isn't because Amazon or the seller wants to scam you.

Gosh. My head is literally spinning.

My GF and her friend were on a trip once and got short changed by a hotel and they left a bad review. The manager of the hotel himself call them to their phone and offer some money back for them to delete the review.

Often the case with Amazon reviews too. Or the seller tells you they will give you an Amazon gift card if you leave a 5-star review which is very misleading and completely against Amazon's policy.

Different perspective: if a company can't manage to ship something to me properly packaged than that should be noticed. I want to know if it's a drop shipper or whatever. I like those reviews. If I want a vase I'm not going to order it from someone who can't manage to properly pack glass.

Right but Amazon reviews are for the product, not the shipping. They have an entire process for correcting these issues including the "how was your delivery" message that happens with every delivery. These are the people who use posting a negative review to yelp because a local restaurant was fucked up because of a door dash delivery error.

Accustomed to it from a lifetime of in-person shopping experience. The same place you went to to buy the product is the same as the one where you leave any comments, positive or negative: the front desk. So the reviews section being on the same page as the purchase button just feels intuitive to them. Verbal complaints to the staff happen there, those are basically reviews, and they end up being heard by the manager, right? So it must work the same way.

TL;DR tech illiteracy

Well I have been solicited by the seller for a refund on a bad review before. I took the refund and did not change my star rating because the product sucked.

But it could be that Amazon is soliciting the review for them and they are not clear on if they are reviewing the product or the seller.

It is a bit weird though that Amazon doesn’t reject these reviews
