People who clip ears are shit humans, absolute garbage.

u/raineasawa 17d ago
Agreed. I don't understand why it is still a thing. There is no reason to mutilate a puppy. Stop cropping tails and ears. Accept the dog for how it is. it should be illegal

u/LaceyDark 17d ago
If you have to mutilate an animal to want it as a pet, then just don't get a pet.

u/klonkish 17d ago
I also don't understand why it's not banned everywhere, it thankfully is in Canada

Obviously they can't, since it's actually wearing a onesie, looks so fkn dumb.

Who did this to that dog's ears ?

I'm super dumb so I can't see what's wrong with the ears😭

u/MercyPewPew 17d ago
They're docked. Pitbull ears are naturally floppy but some people cut them off because they either think it looks tough or they're using the animal in pit fights where the ears are a hazard. It's a disgusting practice and is no different from other abusive practices like declawing or docking tails

u/The_BmB 17d ago
Wow holy fuck that's horrible .... I really hope the owners are not the one who did that and saved that dog. Otherwise that's horrible..

u/ohpetunia 16d ago
They didn't. The owners rescue and rehabilitate did (although quite a few they own become forever members of their family). Their YouTube is thegoodhype 😊

u/DieSuzie2112 17d ago
Iirc the real reason they docked the ears and tails was because they were hunting dogs, docking the ears meant they could hear the prey better, and the ears and tail couldn’t be injured if they’re docked. Of course afterwards people used it for abusive reasons.

u/Jess_the_Siren 17d ago
Yeah it's different for different breeds. Just as a few examples: Rotties perpetually hurt themselves wacking the shit out of everything that's tail-height when they get excited, so much so that they can end up with infections or broken tails fairly often. Docking their tails is the easier and safer option. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer and they dock their tails so they're more easily seen when hunting in high grass or brush. In the case of pitties, it was popularized in dog fighting bc it gave the opponent less to grab onto. In Great Danes, it's done so the boar they hunt have less to grab onto. I don't see those two as the same at all. That being said, if your dog isn't a hunter, you have no reason to make those modifications other than aesthetics, and it's just a dick move, to put it lightly.

Thank you for the deeper answer! There were indeed a lot of reasons back in the day we needed dogs for hunting, some people still do nowadays and then it’s only for protection of the dogs.
When it comes to medical reasons I’m all behind it, I knew a neighbor who had a dog that broke his tail a few times because of the forceful waging. Eventually the vet said it was such a vulnerable place that the only right option was amputation. Some dogs are so silly and stupid that you have to protect them from themselves.
The thing that I hate is that we don’t always know the backstory, like sometimes it’s medical, most of the time the dogs are rescues. But non the less the owner always gets shit for having a ‘botched’ dog. You can’t judge unless you know what’s happening. And that bothers me, people with rescued dogs can’t live a peaceful life because everyone is out for blood.

Ok. Do you support circumcision?

u/Bright-Efficiency-65 13d ago
Not even close to the same thing. Did you need stitches when you got circumcized? And a fuck load of badanges? Huge difference between an extremely thin piece of skin, and FUCKING EARS

Some do it to avoid ear hematomas. We didn’t clip, but had a Lab who got them in her ears and it was so painful for her. Then they burst and blood goes everywhere. Any other reason other than medical is just cruel.

u/smallangrynerd 17d ago
My parents dog has had some ear hematomas. They haven’t been clipped, though, since they’re infrequent enough that they can just be handled when it happens. Her ears are a little deformed now though, but they don’t bother her.
Hematomas are pretty painful though, so I understand wanting to prevent them if the dog gets them more often than once every few years

Yep my childhood lab had one that took forever to go away- she went to several different vets for drainage and I think eventually had surgery to seal the area(?) and luckily it never recurred. Was not fun for anyone though.

u/DieSuzie2112 17d ago
Not only that, but people seem to forget most of these dogs are rescues, the owners have nothing to do with the docked ears but they do get the hate for having a dog with docked ears.

u/ALLoftheFancyPants 16d ago
If that was the case with this dog, it wouldn’t have “grown up with cats”.
1
u/DieSuzie2112 16d ago
It is, multiple people in the comments pointed out that this is a rescue dog and even gave a link to their instagram account

u/ALLoftheFancyPants 16d ago
So many people purchase a dog and then refer to it as an “adoption” or “rescue”. Are we claiming that a 4 week old puppy got its ears docked? And then after that effort and expense, they just dump the puppy at a shelter?

u/DieSuzie2112 16d ago
Just look up their insta account, this dog is a rescue.

u/ALLoftheFancyPants 16d ago
You’re going to need to give me an actual insta account name if this is the argument you’re sticking with

My dog does all of these things and has never lived with a cat. You notice how he's only rubbing on things when he has a harness or clothes on?

u/HealthySchedule2641 17d ago
This. I've had dogs my whole life, only becoming a cat owner 2 years ago. Every dog I've met and had does all of these things except the rubbing on things for attention.
9
u/UrUncleRandy 17d ago
Yeah, "he wants attention" my ass. He wants the fucking onezie off. My dog would do the same thing whenever we put a coat on him. This video is total bs

People who have dogs ears mutilated should have their own ears mutilated. Sickos. (If a foster/rescue person helped doggo have a safe home)

I think some people would say the same thing about two of our cats, but they both had skin cancer on their ears. I’ve seen people especially ask about our pure white cat when they’ve seen him about, and they get this judgy tone until you say “he had cancer”.

His ears make me angry. Is it legal where this is filmed?
36
13
u/DieSuzie2112 17d ago
In most countries this isn’t legal, and in most cases these dogs are rescues. Owners like this don’t deserve the hate people throw at them. They rescued a dog that was abused

Well he's rubbing against stuff because his stupid outfit is making him itch, but otherwise cute 🥰

I was thinking the same thing 🤷♀️ I've had dogs that loved wearing sweaters & some the freeze when you put anything on them !

Y'all never had dogs before? This is just how they act. And the dog wasn't rubbing up against the wall for attention, it wanted the onesie and harness off 🤦♀️

It's so cute that the dog is clearly interpreting the behaviors. The cats have impulses, instincts and needs that are met by these behaviors, but he's a dog and doesn't have them, so he's visibly guessing 😭❤️
example:
cats rub on objects not because they want attention, but because scent is hugely important to their navigation system. If you have a cat, they move through the house via their nose. When they're socializing and notice a surface doesn't smell like The Colony, they make a show out of rubbing it to basically say "Look, we are A Family, and we own this place Together." Clearly they were saying this to the dog.
Who did not understand and interpreted the behavior as, "When people who like me look at me, they Rub Things. So when I look at people I like, I also will Rub Things." I love him.

These are normal dog things?
Asides from the catbed every dog I’ve had has done this, and even my dogs laid on the cat beds every once in a while, despite having their own bed right next to it lol

u/DangerMacAwesome 17d ago
I wonder if another dog raised around this dog, but not around cats, would exhibit the same behavior

lol. wtf. SJW's will flip out over dog ears, yet not bat an eye at male circumcision or the millions of children mutilated each year. 👌
