Same. Returning some shit i don't need back to Amazon. It a drop in a bucket but screw them

24

u/dkjroot 29d ago

Cancelled mine of the day of the disgraceful Zelensky press conference.

Cancelled ours over a month ago and haven’t bought anything since then. I thought it would be harder but haven’t even noticed.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

7

u/IVEGOTTAPACKAGE4U 28d ago

I find it fun to go on the internet and look for things I want, like the old days. Amazon is TOO convenient, I prefer browsing around and finding items on my own.

9

u/wendydarlingpan 28d ago

I found myself using Amazon because my payment info was stored and other websites were annoying because I had to go find my wallet and credit card, enter shipping info etc...

I quit Amazon after the inauguration, and I’m buying soooo much less and so much more intentionally because the convenience of having payment and shipping stored made it too easy to buy shit without thinking. I don’t miss it at all

3

u/cidvard 26d ago

Prime used to be worth is almost solely for free two-day shipping, but they don't actually do two-day shipping on so many orders now that it barely matters.

83

u/Coracoda Mar 06 '25

I canceled Prime and deleted the Amazon app so it’d take real effort for me to give them money lol

38

u/CartoonistMammoth212 29d ago

Leave the app and when you find your product, go to the brand’s website to purchase, cutting out the Amazon marketplace.

16

u/max5015 Mar 07 '25

That's smart. I'm gonna follow your example

1

u/reallinustorvalds 29d ago

Wrong. They are making money off of you right now. Everytime you use Reddit, Netflix, Instagram, etc... Amazon owns 30% of the cloud services market. It's how they make the majority of their profits.

3

u/Coracoda 29d ago

Well they’re making less money off me

53

u/Old_Cobbler_6744 Mar 06 '25

Haven’t used it so far all year! No amazon in 2025 (and beyond)

26

u/whiteowl123 Mar 06 '25

Canceled mine today!

24

u/ChamberOfSolidDudes Mar 06 '25

Cuz Fuckem, that's why.

5

u/pbsammy1 Mar 07 '25

Cancelled and deleted my payment methods so they can’t sneak a renewal.

18

u/hippiecapitalism Mar 07 '25

Same, it’s a waste of money and a company that treats their employees, suppliers, and customers like trash.

5

u/Fluid-Signal-654 Mar 06 '25

Are you afraid to cancel Amazon entirely?

19

u/IzInBloOm Mar 06 '25

My plan is to still use their site for research and reviews and order direct from the suppliers even if it costs more

16

u/Traditional_Raven Mar 06 '25

You shouldn't need an account to accomplish this

8

u/Few-Ad-4290 Mar 06 '25

Does keeping an account to save lists and shit benefit Amazon in some way that I’m unaware of? It seems like a free service they give with the intent for you to buy things and give them money that way

6

u/Traditional_Raven Mar 06 '25

They collect all kinds of data from you, and depending on the permissions you give them, can have access to your photos and other personal information

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

Yes. They could include it in reports to shareholders.

2

u/reallinustorvalds 29d ago

You haven't even done that. The majority of their profits come from AWS. You're sending them money through AWS right now, via this site.

2

u/brutallykind Mar 07 '25

Thanks for reminding me.

u/A_Stunted_Snail 28d ago

It’s either we boycott them or we eat them… Unite and make them fear the people again.

44

u/nikkinitrou Mar 06 '25

Eat the rich!

12

u/Salt_Sir2599 Mar 06 '25

I recommend a crock pot. Not off Amazon tho.

7

u/CEOfeast Mar 07 '25

Stick ‘em in a stew!

7

u/anamericandruid Mar 07 '25

Boil em, mash em

498

u/ladyerwyn Mar 06 '25

I just pre-ordered a book from my local bookstore for the first time. I can wait.

273

u/Evolutioncocktail Mar 06 '25

That’s what I’ve come to realize. I actually don’t need most things to arrive in 2 days. Half that shit I don’t need at all.

50

u/LylaDee Mar 06 '25

I use to leave things in the cart or wish list for a few days, and then go back to it. And then end up deleting it. I also would not go on after having wine. 😂

No it's gone

9

u/Krautwizzard 29d ago

At my local bookstore I can order a book and pick it up the next next day. I figured that out as last minute Christmas gifts. So it's not really slower at all

3

u/Dawnqwerty 29d ago

Even if you did, half the shit doesn't show up in time anyways

57

u/Vast_Blacksmith_5224 Mar 06 '25

Yes! Support local bookstores!

19

u/averagesaw Mar 06 '25

Sold all my usa shares. Fuck usa

25

u/Orangutanengineering Mar 06 '25

Just bought new roller skates from ebay. Cheaper than Amazon, with free shipping too, and i don't have to pay monthly for the service.

Fuck prime. I've realized 99% of the time i don't need anything in 2 days, and if i need it sooner, i can go support another business in-person a lot faster.

Powell’s Books in Portland ships books, and they have used books, too.

Also, LibroFM is an alternative to Audible for audiobooks. They’ve partnered with independent bookstores all over the US. You can select which bookstore gets the profit when you buy audiobooks from them.

12

u/Mr_Bluebird_VA Mar 06 '25

We don’t even have local bookstores here anymore. It’s all chains.

40

u/hiding_ontheinternet Mar 06 '25

I highly recommend ThriftBooks if you can't buy from your local bookstore! They're the largest reseller of secondhand books and I love buying books from them.

19

u/portuh47 Mar 06 '25

Bookshop.org gives to your local bookstore if you buy from them

4

u/BirdandMonster 29d ago

And if you don't have a local bookstore, they split the profits between ALL the bookstores they are associated with!

1

u/schwhiley 29d ago

i’m in australia and i buy second hand books from american libraries!

7

u/kvothed Mar 07 '25

Yes! Check out www.bookshop.org. You can buy directly from local bookstores online.

5

u/CrystalInTheforest Mar 06 '25

I'm not American, but am I right that it's basically a superannuation scheme like the ones in Aus? If so, move to an ethical fund. That way you get a secure fund without being reliant on billionaires who are actively trying to destroy the world.

2

u/the23rdhour Mar 06 '25

Yes I've come to the same conclusion, it's rare that I need a book in 2 days.

If you’re paying attention 47 is flip flopping on tariffs because the market as a whole is tanking. As soon as he sees the markets go down he backs off on the tough guy stance and gets rid of the tariffs. This is proof that anti consumerism works and is the only thing these billionaires care about. Far and away the best way to protest is by consuming as little as possible so plant that garden, buy second hand, cancel subscription services and social media, cook food from real ingredients and ditch processed foods. It’s the best way to give the middle finger to the entire administration.

79

u/98bballstar Mar 07 '25

Also the back and forth allows for the rich to buy stock at a lower price. Tariffs are backed off, causing the stock price to rise, then they sell again just before the next set of tariffs. Rinse and repeat

59

u/Baulsby_Itchin Mar 07 '25

Not enough people are talking about this. It's blatant insider trading. Everyone should check out Kyle Kuklinski and Majority Report. Only people covering this blatant corruption properly. Actual independent media not owned by corporate.

15

u/LickMyTicker Mar 07 '25

Everyone knows about his pump and dumps. It isn't a secret. He pumped his own meme coin. There's far too much to talk about though. It's not as simple as saying this is all about day to day stock market trends. If you think that, he's going to eventually trick you.

It's utter chaos and collapse is for sure coming. They don't operate in a vacuum. This is going to hit the US dollar very soon.

I’m done with Bezos and Amazon, never coming back. I had prime, bought stuff pretty regularly over the years, and I will never give them money again.

I now view my dollars as ammunition and am shifting to strategic spending.

u/unknownpanda121 Mar 06 '25

The whole market has been down the past two weeks.

This has nothing to do with “anti-consumption”. It has everything to do with uncertainty.

62

u/sToeTer Mar 06 '25

But it's good to combine it to let it drop even more :P

10

u/McDonaldsWitchcraft 29d ago

Unfortunately, if you see the bigger picture, their stocks increased so much in value last year this decrease is not very dramatic, it's still an increase compared to november.

But y'all can still use this as secondary motivation to ditch this useless service. I'm just trying to be realistic but I don't wanna downplay the impact of this movement.

48

u/Cold_King_1 Mar 06 '25

Yeah, it’s pretty disingenuous to act as if “boycotts” have had any measurable effect on stock prices.

Stocks have been down due to uncertainly around Trump’s economic policies, and really started to tank when he levied additional tariffs earlier this week.

19

u/LakersAreForever Mar 06 '25

Stocks down due to presidents action causing uncertainty,

Still a win

9

u/HonestOrModest Mar 06 '25

Stocks are down because they should have never been that high in the first place.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/dirtymoose_ Mar 07 '25

Stop it with your logic.

1

u/Old-Arachnid1907 29d ago

But isn't that uncertainty related to people not consuming a product? Tariffs cause consumers and businesses to pull back on discretionary spending.

1

u/unknownpanda121 29d ago

None of that would reflect in the price of the stock until actual data comes out.

1

u/Mead_Create_Drink 29d ago

Agree.

Since Trump took office, the Nasdaq has fallen more than 7% and the S&P 500 is down more than 4%.

1

u/nepapeepee Mar 06 '25

It was 171 only 6 months ago. I think OP has a pretty tenuous grasp on how the stock market works.

That would be cool if Amazon was doing poorly, cause fuck them. But yeah, they are doing fantastic.

59

u/ediblesleeve Mar 06 '25

Forgive me I’m still a little new to the stock market, still trying to learn how it goes, but I’d rather see their stock market decrease from how it was at the start of the year than increase

47

u/spinningvixen Mar 06 '25

Looking at the long term growth or decline is going to be your best comparison for how a stock is truly doing. Stocks are long term investments which means we have to tank the stock constantly over time for the decrease to truly matter. Otherwise, it's just a blip on the inevitable rise.

u/SweetAddress5470 Mar 06 '25

But it’s not a great comparison really either the holiday spending kicking off 6 months ago really

3

u/newusr1234 Mar 06 '25

They’ve been treating employees badly for years. It’s time we stop buying from them and find alternatives. Speaking of, anyone have alternatives? Alternatives that didn’t donate to a certain orange campaign?

9

u/QueenBKC Mar 06 '25

I love Thriftbooks and the library. I rarely actually NEEDED anything from them. I hit the thrift stores pretty regularly.

2

u/AuntRhubarb Mar 07 '25

Buy direct from manufacturers, get handmade stuff and craft supplies from Etsy, books from Alibris, recordings from Discogs, get used and new stuff from sellers on Ebay, etc.

If you can't find things using your search engine, try a better one; this cuts out some of the crap. https://udm14.com/

1

u/IVEGOTTAPACKAGE4U 28d ago

But be careful- Amazon has their “fulfillment services” where they warehouse and ship the products even if you don’t buy on Amazon. And they still profit. I like to make it known to the companies I buy from about my disdain for Amazon and my wish that they try not to use them for their warehousing or shipping.

Prime membership annual dues were supposed to come out today for our household. For the first time in more than 5 years, our family is an Amazon-free house. Say goodbye to that $150/yr and thousands in purchases, Amazon. Went and bought vitamins from a locally run health food store today.

2

u/IVEGOTTAPACKAGE4U 28d ago

That’s awesome!

u/Jelly_Jess_NW Mar 06 '25

People can say what they want but between the people on the US and Abroad this is impacting businesses .

I have a small nest egg in a 401k. This kind of thing worries me no matter how rotten some corporations might be.

16

u/togaman5000 Mar 06 '25

Yeah, the overall market downturn is bad for those with retirement savings, particularly those who will be retiring in the medium-term

12

u/Rocketgirl8097 Mar 06 '25

Yeah a year or two for me. And my husband's disabled so my savings is the only thing we have. There is not enough time for me to earn it back.

7

u/dieek Mar 06 '25

Generally, the closer you get to retirement, the less risk you want to have in your portfolio. A lot of the standard 401K "retirement" funds tend to go down this path.

You can also look at the bond market. That is a guaranteed gain, but much smaller than stocks.

7

u/Rocketgirl8097 Mar 06 '25

Yes i already made that move. I'd rather have less than have none at all. I'm standing ready to transfer to money market or IRA.

You know stock price isn’t linked to daily profits, right?

1

u/atari-2600_ 29d ago

Yeah, people think there’s an instant response, it’s ridiculous. It takes time and a track record of diminishing returns before you’ll see the stock start to fall. I believe it is having an impact - give it more than a couple weeks, people!

1

u/Hot-Celebration-8815 29d ago

Yeah, a couple weeks doesn’t mean shit either. Earnings reports are quarterly. Value is entirely faith based.

3

u/Dealsthisway 29d ago

Yes! Cancelled 5 days ago! Haven't bought anything in a while but I do go on to price check items but never order.

1

u/ediblesleeve 29d ago

See if you can get a refund for your prime account! Make them pay you back!

3

u/Fast-Editor-4781 29d ago

I made a tiny scraper script to get all of your amazon wishlist items into a CSV with non-amazon purchase links to buy them right from the manufacturer (hopefully. It's not smart). I know I personally meticulously used amazon wishlists to keep track of items to buy for certain events, or just regular monthly needs, and scraping that data was pretty important so I didn't lose them when I deleted.

Fuck amazon, scrape your wishlists then delete your account: https://github.com/matt-meaningfulgigs/fuckamazon

10

Do people realize how lame it is to brag that they've canceled Prime(while not mentioning they still have an Amazon account?

This is like stocking up Thursday for a boycott on Friday.  Or boycotting only one day a week/month.

Boycotts have to be 100%  Not 14% (one day a week).  Not 3% (once a month). Not "except for diapers because they're cheap."

It's all about changing your behavior so corporations will change theirs.

Literally the only place for miles around that sells frozen grape juice, which we use to make our own single-serving grape fizz soda. That's the only thing we still get at Target.

3

u/barsonica Mar 06 '25

I love how several subreddits are all cheering to collapsing stock prices

1

u/McDonaldsWitchcraft 29d ago

I would too if it was actually collapsing. But it's increased so much it's still much higher than last year even after this tiny drop. Doesn't mean your protest is not working, you just need to make a lot of effort to reach more people.

3

u/ShiveredTimber Mar 06 '25

You must be new to the markets

3

u/Birthday-Tricky 29d ago

I’ve got a cart full of products and I’ve been sitting on them for 3 weeks while I look for other sources. Found several books from indie book stores and going down to NYC for kitchenwares. Also cancelled WaPo after the Kamala endorsement was pulled.

3

u/ediblesleeve 29d ago

Even if your local indie book store doesn’t have what’s in stock you can ask them to order it/ ask if they can put it in stock, then they can directly give order from the publisher!

2

u/Birthday-Tricky 29d ago

Also used books! I collect cookbooks and so many people receive or buy and never use them. I found pristine books at rock bottom prices.

1

u/Dreadful_Spiller 25d ago

Look for books, new and used, at Thriftbooks.

2

u/Birthday-Tricky 24d ago

Also I got a library card!!

3

u/AnActualLefty 29d ago

This is not happening because of boycotts. This is all on tariffs and consumer sentiment plunging lol

6

u/jackaros Mar 06 '25

Lol as if canceling your subscription affects the stock price 🤣 Their data centers keep on running...

5

u/-SilentBell Mar 06 '25

That's not how any of this works. Investors don't have real-time information on a company's revenue. It's released quarterly. This isn't a reflection of the recent blackout/protest. It's probably related to the tariffs.

3

u/Pat_The_Hat Mar 06 '25

This has everything to do with tariffs and nothing to do with any boycott.

5

u/Cheap_Blacksmith66 Mar 07 '25

What if I told you their stocks aren’t plummeting because of a boycott but because we’re headed into a recession/depression sparked by the orange toddler we have for a president?

u/Holzkohlen 29d ago

I'm not purchasing as hard as a can!

2

u/DremoraLorde 29d ago

In the words of Richard Nixon, "Make the economy scream."

2

u/joytothenowhereking 29d ago

I cancelled Prime yesterday! Realised I'm only really using it for deliveries, which i could easily shop in a real life store for... small victories ftw!

2

u/KhaosTemplar 29d ago

Prime week is either the 2nd or 3rd week in July (it hasn’t been announced yet) this will week is so important for Amazon or it determines much of their Q2. It’s so big the Walmart and Target also have a sale the same week. So I’m letting you all know now that’s a good week to l do an economic blackout.

2

u/Ok-Perspective-8803 29d ago

Yesterday, I bought some camera equipment from a small business online that would’ve normally gotten from amazon. It felt great to support them even though it was $20 more than Amazon and I (gasp!) have to wait a week.

2

u/fessertin 29d ago

Just smashed that "cancel prime" button! Have purposely not been using it but waited until today to cancel to send a message.

2

2

2

Cancelling Prime

2

u/LGNDclark 28d ago

I can't decide if it's more sad or laughable that everyone thinks they aren't hedging in preparation for what will end up being a minor inconvenience for them.. there are people who depend on Amazon delivery now. Large companies that get supply deliveries that are cheaper than other places. At home businesses that depend on the cheaper supplies and ability to have their products delivered.

If only people put as much effort into holding our politicians accountable for prioritizing corporate benefits over its people's welfare. But that takes actual effort and sacrifice.

This is an act that displays it effectiveness in its minimal amount of effort needed for "the cause". If people cared, they'd be actively fighting the lobbyists that persuaded our politics too frequently. Something that would take real sacrifices other than.. just not doing something thats been a bad idea from the start and of which a large percentage of America has been smart enough never to use in the first place.

Just wait until they get your support back, and their profit increases again because now they survived the upper class not using their assistants, as previous attempts and market trends show.

👏👏👏👏👏

2

u/[deleted] 25d ago

How to cancel Meta when all my relatives, family and friends are using it? I really want to get rid of it but I’m always thinking I will lose touch with most of them. Show me a way!

2

u/Icy_Dot23 24d ago edited 24d ago

Canceled Amazon many years ago when I realized how harmful and monopolistic Bezos' business practices were. Glad people are waking up to the atrocities of corporate greed now that "orange head" is in office and ruining everything for everyone with the help of his billionaire backers from the Silicon Valley. People should also pull out of the stock markets. It is not the real economy! Also, if you own a Tesla, hope you do the right thing.

I haven't bought any thing from Amazon since 2023 and don't plan to any time soon. No Prime, no Amazon shopping, nothing. I don't think I loathe and detest a company any more on Earth than Amazon.

3

u/iGauss Mar 07 '25

This isn’t happening because of some silly boycott lol. This is a normal correction the entire market is going through after skyrocketing the past 3 years

3

u/SlayerOfDougs 29d ago

Most of amazons profits come from AWS, not prime. Theyre a monopoly that needs tk be broken. And about 20 others

3

u/ediblesleeve 29d ago

Yes, Aws is hard for the average consumer to boycott/do damage to bezos profits, so having people cancel their Amazon primes/audible/ other Amazon subscriptions is a great step in the right direction, it’s cause people to be more cautious of their consumerism as well

My wife cancelled Amazon prime video (we can get all that on the jellyfin server) and we're both probably going to delete twitch. We don't buy subs or anything, but I don't want to support bezos in any possible way.

1

u/reallinustorvalds 29d ago

Then stop using Reddit, Netflix and a massive chunk of the internet lol. It all runs on servers owned by Bezos buddy. Everytime you use this website, he indirectly benefits from it.

1

u/WilsonUndead 29d ago

I realize that and considered it. Obviously there are some parts of the Internet that I kind of have no choice to use, but I want to limit as much as I can. Also I already don't use Netflix, Reddit and browsers are pretty much all I use.

1

u/CorndogFiddlesticks Mar 07 '25

If you believe in this, short the stock

1

u/wasworde Mar 07 '25

1

u/AustriaModerator 29d ago edited 29d ago

We need to be careful. When rates are low, many rich people invest in these stocks. Usually, they go back up after some time, making the rich even richer. We cannot simply stop buying things forever. These super-rich bastards have investments everywhere. To solve this problem, we, the people, must buy stocks as soon as we can afford them to prevent the rich from outbidding us or - way better - permanently move to different brands and do this everytime a single brand gets too big.

This is true, but that’s why I made the post to boycott the companies such as these, because they are all for consumerism, and the Amazon weeklong boycott starts today, it’s also important to look at stocks such as Amazon because the stocks s&p 500, Dow jones, get effected and you can see how the ‘health’ of the stock market is doing

u/roastbeef423 29d ago

Wait why are we boycotting Amazon. I thought we were going after Musk?

3

u/scotttttie 29d ago

We're going after all of them

1

u/roastbeef423 28d ago

I see but I'm wondering why Amazon is all.

  1. Elon/Tesla, 2. Jeff/Amazon, 3. Zuck/Meta. I’ve stopped there because I don’t know enough about the 4th wealthiest person.

You people are delusional. Have you not been watching the news at all the last few days?

1

u/neversimpleorpure 29d ago

Down, down, down the stocks, down the billionaires stocks. To the tune of the witches road

u/golfreak923 29d ago

Haven't cancelled my prime just yet but cancelled all my subscribe & save orders.

I cancelled prime earlier this year. As a former heavy user of Amazon, the silly trick that has helped keep me on track with not buying from Amazon is that every time I want to shop I picture Jeff bezos' face and that somehow is enough to stop me.

1

u/ScottaHemi Mar 07 '25

so you're saying it's a good time to buy!

1

u/jbahill75 Mar 07 '25

They’re fine. Probably buying up their own devalued stocks along with their buddies. They have the means to ride it out. Really wealthy people don’t mind these crashes. They buy shit up at times like this. Meanwhile people relying in retirement funds etc. get crushed.

u/nikkinitrou Mar 06 '25

Crash that motherfucker

1

u/Actuallygetsomesleep Mar 06 '25

Cancelled my prime account a bit ago. It’s truly a waste of money.

2

u/Fluid-Signal-654 Mar 06 '25

Why not cancel Amazon altogether, despite its convenience?

Canceled my membership. Looking around it seemed like they just added a surcharge to the price of items to cover shipping and more.

1

u/Lanky-Appointment929 Mar 06 '25

This is the only way.

They’re stabbing us to go faster but don’t realize we’re the turtle they’re riding on.

1

u/veryblanduser Mar 06 '25

Now they are only up 17% the last 6 months

1

u/shohareman Mar 06 '25

I cancelled my Amazon account!

1

u/mexisparky Mar 06 '25

Unfortunately, I think this is just the yearly post holiday "cooldown". If we keep canceling these traitorous companies though we can keep them permanently low. I love seeing the working class at least somewhat united against rich jerks.

1

u/Impnos Mar 06 '25

I received a gift card to Amazon. Which unfortunately is like a 0% interest loan to Amazon until it is used.

Once it is gone I hope to delete my account.

Chaos is bad for business. I'm in real assets until this thing goes off a cliff

1

u/Electronic_Eagle6211 Mar 07 '25

Let me know when you are done so I can buy it up

When are people going to realize the full power they have to upset billionaires?

2

u/dirtymoose_ Mar 07 '25

What in the world are you talking about?

1

u/uzi_lillian Mar 07 '25

I hope all the boomers who voted for him because they thought their 401ks would get a boost get exactly what they voted for!

1

u/Loyal9thLegionLord Mar 07 '25

Are we already boycotting?

1

u/EnvironmentHot8413 Mar 07 '25

Deleted prime and prime video 😊

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

They are Stonks now.

1

u/thesuprememacaroni Mar 07 '25

Yeah this isn’t bc some “protest” that is going on.

1

u/Particular-Date6138 Mar 07 '25

I never understood why people paid for prime. Free shipping was offered just for waiting a few extra days but the item typically arrived in sooner than later delivery date.
