Intermediate Is there anything majorly off here? Any advice on whatever at all that you pick up would be appreciated!
This is a portrait piece of Raven from the Teen Titans wearing Piccolo's outfit from dragon ball (because why not!) I've included the original reference as well.
I have obviously broken away from the style of the series here and I'm experimenting with things such as line weights and colour (I usually work in monotone) and different types of shading; the paper I used was poor quality and was tearing bits off during the colouring process (don't buy seabrighton sketchbooks) but anyway any advice at all or even just your overall thoughts would be appreciated!

Honestly I think this is pretty awesome all things considered! I wouldn’t try to change anything because this piece is finished up and the paper is pretty weak. I recommend for doing more pieces like this:
- keep up the heavy lineweight and shadows I love the effect!
- try a new sketchbook, canson makes some pretty good affordable sketchbooks or I also recommend Bristol paper as a sturdy multimedia paper!
- next time practice your pencil weight when coloring, it looks pretty heavy handed. If you put lighter pressure to put down a lighter layer of pencil, you can add in more depth and shading with your colors (along with avoiding the paper falling apart by too much friction)

Thank you for the compliments and the advice it's much appreciated!
It was the first time I've really used line weights in a proper piece, was slowly integrating them overtime in previous works and it does make a hell of a difference!
Yes the sketchbook lol. I have a few more empty ones, Sakura branded. Thought this one wasn't gonna be as bad as it was. The paper felt like it was made of wool at times lol
Yeah I am very well aware of how heavy handed I am lol. It's a habit I picked up from sketching as I can't see very well all, gonna have to be a bit more mindful of that at least in the colouring stages of a piece.
Thanks again for the advice! I never usually get the chance to have my work critiqued properly so thank you! :D
