Should have cut the mortises in the leg before turning on the lathe. Much easier to cut quality mortises in square stock than round

Thanks! This is a great tip! It was my first time doing a mortise in a round leg and I will do this way next time.

Actually, now that I think about it you may have done it in the correct order. Difference is shaped vs turned legs. I know with shaped legs, you want to mortise before shaping. But that's shaping leg stock by hand or into anything asymmetric. With turning, you might have blow out issues if you mortise first because of the big gap in your spinning stock.
