My son's teacher keeps taking his entire class on whimsical and magical field trips to outer space or in his body how do I prevent this?

I think our children attend the same school.

I moved my son Arnold to this school after a recent move.

He finds these magical field trips both exhausting and traumatic.  He constantly comes home and says that it was never like this at his old school.  He begs the teacher to do a regular school trip instead of a magical one.  He constantly wants to skip school to avoid them.

I'm pretty sure he froze to death in space once.

The admin does nothing, we're transferring him to a private school as soon as we can

Poor Arnold. I heard the entire class took a trip through his body without permission.

67

u/Slipperysteve1998 17d ago

Holy shit, really? Isnt that a bit predatory?

68

u/fjhdjdjdk 17d ago

Yeah I actually read an article and they got out through his rectum which is just such a traumatizing experience for him and his entire class

38

u/BubblyAd9274 17d ago

no! they got out his snot

53

u/stitchplacingmama 17d ago

That's Ralphie. Arnold burps them out after drinking Wanda's soda. To be fair they go inside Arnold twice, once was to discover why he was orange.

u/kittawa 17d ago

Carrots!

16

u/veovis523 16d ago

No idea, but it's definitely a HIPAA violation.

(For the record, I'm not a lawyer)

2

u/UnstableGoats 15d ago

The scene of him getting sucked out into space terrified me as a kid.

19

u/ablar47 17d ago

Probably should've stayed home that day.

12

u/MsARumphius 16d ago

My daughter didn’t like this show when she was younger bc she felt so bad for Arnold and how stressed he was.

Wanna upvote but

1

u/Winter_Day_6836 14d ago

Didn't Miss Frizzle attend?!

15

u/trucky_crickster 16d ago

I'm in your son's class and he's a little weiner. Mrs. F rules!

1

u/CountTheFrogs 14d ago

Easy, Ralphie.

14

u/Cosmo_Cloudy 17d ago

I feel like I just stepped into r/havewemet

7

u/TypicalPlace6490 17d ago

Umm your kid can't be Arnold. They went into Arnold's body. 0/10

2

u/wenzalin 16d ago

They also went into Ralphie's when he was sick.

4

u/shefeltasenseoffear 16d ago

(As a side note I legit had nightmares for years after this episode. Him turning to ice and the red eyes and stuff... yikkkes! The idea of going to space is still terrifying to me!)

1

u/vraimentaleatoire 13d ago

With the Friz? No way

139

u/Graphicnovelnick 17d ago

You could ask the school board to cut the funding for magical transportation. It’ll be harder for her to take the kids on a field trip on a magic scooter.

33

u/fjhdjdjdk 17d ago

I think she actually created the bus on her own so it’s not technically the schools

40

u/Californie_cramoisie 17d ago

Did she create it during school hours or using materials from the school?

18

u/fjhdjdjdk 17d ago

No actually, it was a science fair project with her sister

18

u/FanndisTS 17d ago

Is this canon?

5

u/kickatstars 16d ago

It is now!

1

u/fjhdjdjdk 16d ago

I’m actually pretty sure

1

u/Guilty-Whereas7199 15d ago

Did you know her sister actually teaches at another school? And i'm pretty sure she does the same weird stuff with the kids

11

u/pupperoni42 16d ago

So she's driving all the children in her private vehicle, which isn't insured by the school district?

That must be a violation.

5

u/ohnoidi 16d ago

Actually, it is her TARDIS, and equally guilty of her crimes.

3

u/EmpressMakimba 14d ago

I think she needs to let us know how a magic school bus "literally" takes you into space.

224

u/Hopesick_2231 17d ago

Leave it alone. The teacher clearly knows what they're doing and it's probably best to not fuck with someone who can travel to outer space or inside the human body on a whim.

91

u/daneato 17d ago

They’ll frizzle out sooner or later.

25

u/amber_758 17d ago

That is a very good point, never really thought about it but definitely someone you want on your side

12

u/Fyrestar333 17d ago

Maybe she's a lizard person? I've heard she always has that lizard with her and it can do non lizard things.

7

u/haileyskydiamonds 17d ago

Nah, the lizard is her companion.

1

u/Reneeasaur 16d ago

I heard this teacher actually has two hearts.

1

u/hypnoskills 14d ago

Are they...roommates?

55

u/Areil26 17d ago

Honestly, this is exactly the type of thing that happens when the administration gets rid of the Department of Education. Teachers going rogue, setting their own curriculum, anarchy! Common sense has frizzled out.

13

u/Kingsdaughter613 17d ago

On the plus side, my kid is actually learning science now! We’re so pleased that we’ve invited the teacher over for the Passover Seder. (Fun fact: the Frizz is Jewish!)

54

u/quarantina2020 17d ago

Is her name.... Frizzle? I may have heard such rumors.

13

u/wistfulee 17d ago

I love Miss Frizzle!

3

u/midnight_aurora 17d ago

She’s my spirit animal. 🚌🦎

11

u/Californie_cramoisie 17d ago

No, it's Valerie

7

u/rigney68 17d ago

That Veronica Vaughn...

1

u/shoulda-known-better 16d ago

That Veronica Vaughn is one piece of ace, I know from experience, dude!! If you know what I mean.......

6

u/CS-1316 17d ago

I’ve been looking for her too. I miss her ginger hair and the way she likes to dress.

2

u/FloridaWildflowerz 17d ago

I heard she was suing Lularoe for stealing her designs. She wants the money to upgrade the bus and for lizard food.

3

u/New_Milk6069 17d ago

Aww Amy 🖤

3

u/MollilyPan 17d ago

Scrolled just for this.

2

u/quarantina2020 17d ago

It was rather bleak when I arrived lol, felt like the representative of the generation

55

u/jmac3979 17d ago

You all signed the waivers. It's not the Frizz's fault you didn't read what your kid handed you. Smh

91

u/DrunkUranus 17d ago

God forbid a teacher try to make learning relevant. Pack a bag lunch and be glad your kid has a teacher

13

u/Usualausu 17d ago

Yeah sounds like FUN!!

4

u/purplishfluffyclouds 17d ago

Right - or even fun. "Learning should NOT be fun!!" -Reddit

24

u/BornSoLongAgo 17d ago

Yes but how are their test scores?

50

u/WhompTrucker 17d ago

Don't worry. Now that there's no department of education she won't be doing that anymore

20

u/13surgeries 17d ago

My students sometimes called me Mrs. Frizzle (It was the hair, and apparently, the enthusiasm.) I wish I HAD that magic school bus--that or the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, though I don't know how many kids I could cram into that one.

21

u/MyLadyScribbler 17d ago

Does your son's class need a chaperone or two for these trips? I'd be happy to volunteer.

Side note: I'm convinced that Ms. Frizzle is a Time Lord, the bus is a TARDIS, and the kids are all her companions.

5

u/ohnoidi 16d ago

Exactly. I believe she is River Song off on adventures in the TARDIS when 11 isn't looking. We all know that she can work the TARDIS better than the Doctor, so I'm sure she can manage to work the Chameleon Circuit too.

17

u/rhetorical99 17d ago

I am a vet killing time on Reddit while my nurse sets up an enema for a patient. I shit you not, the patient’s name is Miss Frizzle. I should tell her to just fly up her own butt and do the enema herself 😤

3

u/The_Lucid_Writer 17d ago

Oh a vet? I think that patient might actually be named Liz. But I agree, if we’re talking about the same person, I think she could go up their ass and fix the problem

2

u/rhetorical99 17d ago

Chart says “miss frizzle last name” lmao. She’s owned by a teacher 😂

3

u/The_Lucid_Writer 17d ago

Idk I saw her getting wine with some lizard looking ass thing, so i may not know my reptiles, but that’s not my problem 🙌🏻

2

u/rhetorical99 17d ago

😂😂

13

u/BubblyAd9274 17d ago

I snorted out my iced tea. NICE THROW BACK!

12

u/Caliopebookworm 17d ago

Given how often they almost got stuck in someones body, that's not a permission slip I'd ever sign.

11

u/boudicas_shield 17d ago

This post gave me such a smile on a bad day. Thanks, OP! 🥰

10

u/WillingBake9330 17d ago

If the teacher sounds like Lily Tomlin we may also be having this issue.

1

u/d3f3ct1v3 13d ago

Thanks to this post I checked out the wikipedia page and I had no idea so many famous actors did voices for the series, it understandably went over my head when I was 7 years old. And Little Richard performed the theme song?!

8

u/itchykobu 17d ago

My kid's teacher too. She took them to the early Jurassic and literally turned them into dinosaurs, sea creatures, whatever. They grew to adulthood, mated, died, had their  souls encased in sedimentary rock for MILLENIA just to be resurrected in our current time to win a trivia contest. I did not sign a waiver for that and I'm outraged

9

u/ParticularBerry1382 17d ago

Small class size? Kids who listen? Unlimited project supplies in the classroom? Can't be a public school.

2

u/SinistralCalluna 16d ago

Don’t forget the 14-step approval process from five different district departments.

8

u/Fickle-Copy-2186 17d ago

I just wish we were warned about these magical trips. I'm tired of my kid coming home with sea salt, dirt, dust and solar dust all over their clothes.

3

u/Beanz53 17d ago

Always wear your play clothes to school!

4

u/mlower2 17d ago

Is the teacher sending home permission forms? Or are these just spontaneous trips?

Because if it’s permission forms, then your son “knew he should have stayed home today.”

5

u/Ok_Statistician_9825 17d ago

With a name like Miss Frizzle what did you expect? Is the class pet’s name Scooby Doo?

5

u/ItsADarkRide 17d ago

Look, as long as the teacher is also wearing wacky and appropriately-themed outfits on these field trips, it's all good.

And if she's not, she can probably borrow some of my dresses.

3

u/Oreoskickass 17d ago

Oooh what dresses do you have? I have dresses with flamingos, under-the sea, colored pencils, tropical birds, dripping paint, and probably more. I have unicorn shoes and my backpack is a shark.

I always say that Ms. Frizzle is one of my style influences.

3

u/ItsADarkRide 17d ago

I have many dresses with prints featuring animals, botanicals, and astronomical objects. Right now I can see one with a raccoon print, one with rainbows, and a Christmas dinosaur dress. (Most of the dinosaurs are wearing Santa hats, but the brachiosaurus is wearing an earflap hat, the stegosaurus is wearing earmuffs, and the triceratops is wearing a scarf.)

I'm not a teacher, but I'm a librarian. At a museum. So it's not exactly normal here, but it's not abnormal, either. Like, there are a lot of people at work who own mushroom-print clothing and accessories, and it's not just the botany & mycology department. And yes, I have as many cat-print dresses as you would expect, including one with cats on bookshelves.

3

u/Oreoskickass 17d ago

I love it! I really want a dinosaur dress.

2

u/Oreoskickass 17d ago

And mouse shoes.

4

u/Ok-Tumbleweed2018 17d ago

I miss the Frizz!

5

u/Actual_Bat7281 17d ago

Mrs Frizzle! One of my librarians got a school bus and brought her classes on the bus to read to them. What a treasured memory for all of our kids.

She retired over 15 years ago. Bring some fun to school!!

3

u/DrawingOverall4306 17d ago

My kid never went on field trips like that at her old school. I think we might move back next grade.

5

u/Spitfyre41 17d ago

So who drives the Magic School Bus? Mrs. Frizzle or River Song. They could be twins.

4

u/SasquatchTheLlama 17d ago

At my old school, we didn’t have any space trips.

3

u/meow_purr_growl 17d ago

According to my research, field trips are beneficial to learning. I say let her do her thing.

5

u/Reasonable-Dream-122 17d ago

Does this teacher have a class pet lizard?

5

u/Neo_Bones 17d ago

With the Frizz? No way!

4

u/thecrankymommy 16d ago

Better than my kid’s teacher. Viola Swamp!

3

u/Jack_of_Spades 17d ago

It sounds like she is dosing the students with something to make them easier to manage. Maybe LSD, maybe benedryl. Get a full tox screening done.

3

u/Nemesis0408 17d ago

At my old school, teachers never drove a bus, especially not into space.

3

u/Snoo_88357 17d ago

That sounds like the teacher I had when I was younger. Fortunately, she got her Doctorate and teaches at college now. Her younger sister replaced her, whom I'm sure is not using her bus to invade anyone else's body

3

u/llcmomx3 17d ago

be careful- you might get baked into a pie! 😂

3

u/Bartender9719 16d ago

THIS WOMAN IS DANGEROUS! Proceed with extreme caution, OP - if what you say is true, and this woman is the same woman I’ve heard about, this goes beyond sci-fi shenanigans. She is NOT ONLY capable of incredible feats of space travel, the ability to shrink people and objects, etc, but also imbuing inanimate objects with sentience and binding them to her command. That coupled with the little creature she keeps on her shoulder (likely capable of speech itself, although I don’t have sufficient evidence of that yet), I posit that all signs point to her being a sorceress, demigoddess, or more likely a witch!

3

u/bibliothique 16d ago

With the Frizz? No way 😤

3

u/Low-House-43 16d ago

She has tenure. Ride it out.

4

u/Worth-Ad3212 17d ago

Ah yes, Miss Frizzle. She was my favorite teacher! She’s so good that she got famous, and even has her own books now. Is your sons name Arnold?

2

u/WhompTrucker 17d ago

😂😂😂😂😂😂♥️♥️🧡🎤💙🧡🧡

2

u/MattHakor 17d ago

Seat belts everyone!

2

u/gmanose 17d ago

The Magic School Bus is a classic

2

u/Peachy_247 17d ago

Hahahahahah

2

u/CanadaHaz 17d ago

Most students don't get the benefit of such hands-on learning. Embrace it! You're son will have experiences that make learning fun and engaging.

Just, maybe keep him home they day they learn about the life cycle of salmon.

2

u/NaturalSoftware9372 17d ago

Your kid is in a class of like 6! That is amazing

3

u/Necessary-Nobody-934 17d ago

Exactly. 8 kids and a ton of hands-on learning! Where do we sign up???

2

u/MotherRaven 17d ago

Where is she getting the funding?!

2

u/Natti07 17d ago

Wait til they go ice skating without friction!!!

2

u/Aeiroletta_AppleJaxx 17d ago edited 17d ago

Oh crap I think I've had that teacher back when I was younger. I think I had her for 3 years in a row, I knew the year was getting different but we didn't seem to get any older. But I do remember that kid who always complained that he never wanted to go on the field trips yeah we had one of those too. But of course we did have all of her permission slip signed and they didn't cost anything so of course my parents were a okay with her going anywhere and everywhere. I wonder how she's doing? The weird and funny thing that I do remember the bus didn't smell like ever. And no one ever fought in over any seats. Oh yeah and that adorable little lizard we had as a class pet. I'm not entirely sure how but he always escaped his pen and he always had some some kind of cute outfit that unironically coincideed with whatever we were learning that day.! Oh well, I must be misremembering something.

2

u/FormSuccessful1122 17d ago

If you fuck with that school bus we’re all coming after you.

2

u/Humble-Set-9652 17d ago

Same school; the teacher took me and some other parents to a vampire den one time to show us the type of field trips they go on… She then forced us to dress like bats and hang upside down…

0/10, removed my kid from the class…

2

u/coltonmusic15 17d ago

I think I’d allow a fair bit of whimsical field trip space travel but I’d certainly draw the line at trips directly into the heart of the Sun’s core and I can’t fathom a single teacher who would venture to pull such a stunt.

2

u/themilocat 17d ago

At least she reminds them to wear seatbelts. Ughh…some parents just like to complain about the fun teachers.

2

u/glipglobglipglob 17d ago

Smh oh please, don't be so uptight. She is showing your kid things other kids only dream of. He is learning things well beyond his average grade level. I wish more teachers took initiative like this. How many kids get to go to space for a spur of the monent field trip? And at no cost to the parents? She sounds highly educated, and seems to really care about the kids. We need more teachers like her!!

2

u/roughlyround 17d ago

I really enjoyed space trips when I was a kid. Sure breathing was not always possible, but at least I was asleep.

2

u/Qedtanya13 17d ago

Who is your son‘s teacher? Is it Miss Frizzle?

2

u/repeatrepeatx 17d ago

Took me a sec 😩

2

u/Its-Axel_B 16d ago

Next week it's the bottom of the ocean, remember to sign the permission slip.

2

u/KvDOLPHIN 16d ago

Ffs. Can you ppl just let teachers do their job? Smh

2

u/RFDrew11357 16d ago

Damn, that's one f-ing magical school bus! Just curious if the teacher has frizzy hair too?

2

u/SummerMaiden87 16d ago

Is his teacher Mrs. Frazzle??

2

u/IrritableArachnid 16d ago

Oh yeah, our kids have the same teacher. Mrs. F.

2

u/ApplicationSouth9159 16d ago

You need to contact the principal and make sure these activities are standards-aligned. The state standard for each learning activity should be clearly posted on the board. If she doesn't have a board, they should be posted on the closest asteroid, intestinal lining, or pterodactyl.

2

u/StillLooking727 15d ago

hey, he’s in a class of 8…great student teacher ratio…

2

u/Fungimoss 15d ago

With the Frizz? No way.

2

u/ghostwriter623 15d ago

As an educator, I fully maintain that Miss Frizzle is, hands down, the most irresponsible teacher in existence. I mean, who shrinks an entire bus load of kids to drive around inside another student? Straight crazy town.

2

u/Wanda_McMimzy 15d ago

What’s the issue? Did you try to check him out for a dentist appointment and he was in some other kid’s colon? Surely if he has cavities, they can fix that in the next trip.

2

u/arunnair87 14d ago

Cruising on down main street...

2

u/WestCapable8387 14d ago

Your son should have stayed home.

2

u/Lumpy-Hamster6639 13d ago

I would be livid.

Don't they know they could GET BAKED into a PIE!?

2

u/RightToTheThighs 13d ago

I was never allowed to get eaten by a fish at my old school

2

u/inkedblonde13 13d ago

I think I've heard about her, has a pet iguana right?

2

u/blueeyedtyrant 13d ago

I mean do we even talk about the salmon

5

u/GazelleNew8711 17d ago

What ?

25

u/kiwipixi42 17d ago

Hop on the magic school bus

4

u/themilocat 17d ago

With the Department of Education dismantled, I don’t think there will be anymore funding for field trips like this, so I think your problem is solved. However, your child’s science education will now be severely limited and, depending on what state you live in, centered around Creationism. So…whimsical, magical field trips to space or inside a body, or the entire universe being created in six days and women being built from a man’s rib???

3

u/Kingsdaughter613 17d ago

I object to that! Man and woman were created together, attached at the spine, as a single di-sexual being. Only the man half somehow managed not to notice this…

“Rib” is a mistranslation. If they want to teach the Bible, they should have to teach basic Hebrew first, so they can read it untranslated. And with the mythological context of the originating Judeo-Samaritan culture, ofc. They can teach the mythological context of Christianity and Islam after covering the originating culture mythos.

Once we’ve covered everything from the 999 times the world was created and destroyed, to Abel claiming ownership of the ground and forbidding Cain from standing on it (what, they were only a day old. Kids, am I right?), we get to Christianity’s boring mistranslated text.

Just turn it into a cultural study. If nothing else, teaching kids Jewish (including Karaite), Samaritan, and Islamic mythology on B’reishis is going to really annoy any Christian parents.

3

u/themilocat 16d ago

Wait…are you saying there are OTHER Creationism stories than what the Bible preaches??? Blasphemy!

Jeez, you’re even going so far as to say kids should learn about other cultures and religions! How can we keep kids dumb, Christian, and conservative if this is what’s taught in public schools??!

(Disclaimer: Sometimes people don’t pick up on my sarcasm when typed. Please know that I believe Christianity is mythology and that introducing kids to different cultures is vital to developing empathy, critical thinking skills, and overall intelligence.)

Red headed witch.

1

u/burger8bums 16d ago

Is it space school though?

1

u/DidntWantSleepAnyway 16d ago

Important question…are they elementary schoolers in a regular class, or are they high schoolers in detention?

1

u/ophaus 16d ago

This whole situation seems dangerously irresponsible to me. Were there permission slips? Release forms? Shrinkage insurance?

1

u/[deleted] 16d ago

I totally understand being unnerved but it’s sound almost…magic! Kudos to your kid’s teacher for being so … dedicated ;)

1

u/Dilettantest 16d ago

Can I be a substitute class parent? I never got to go to space in grade school!

1

u/taytoes007 16d ago

why are you still signing his permission slips? at this point that's on you. check parentsquare or call admin to revoke permission

1

u/BoardSelect1910 16d ago

You leave those kids alone. They’ll never find another teacher like her EVER!

Hell, can I chaperone?

1

u/smrtmn 16d ago

Did anyone else notice that the kids in the class grew up to be Planeteers?

I love Reddit sometimes

Arnold!

1

u/Mindless_Bonus_552 16d ago

Well, I asked the same thing to the principal of the school, and Rocco said that's just modern life.

1

u/BunnyBonesie 15d ago

This is the Magic School Bus everyone.

1

u/mariahnot2carey 15d ago

Is there room on that magical school bus? Can it go further than mars? I don't think mars is far enough.

1

u/CandyV89 15d ago

I think this is probably the same teacher I had in fourth grade! Our trips were a bit scary but I learned so much. I’ll never forget being turned into a bee to help transport honey.

1

u/bemerry123 15d ago

Americans complain about the weirdest shit. Our profesor got shrunk in a magic duel with another teacher and we had to rescue him, and we turned out just fine. /brought you buy my vague childhood memories of The Academy of Mr Inkblot

1

u/EowynRiver 15d ago

My son was scared to meet his kindergarten teacher. Until he saw that she had red frizzy hair. Unfortunately her school bus was in the shop that year but it made the transition to kindergarten so much easier.

1

u/Kind-Bath-3796 15d ago

My daughter keeps telling me this bus also shrinks and it’s starting to scare her so bad she doesn’t want to go to school if the bus will shrink- any advice?

1

u/yawn11e1 15d ago

One class' parents insisted they have a camera crew follow their kids and this teacher around at all times so as to record everything for possible lawsuits. As soon as that happened, the deaths stopped, but the field trips got more extreme. It was as though the filming made no difference to the teacher. I saw the results on TV, and was frequently sick to my stomach. I think once they went up a nostril? Honestly, that has to violate, like, six different civil rights. At any rate, that class all survived the school year, but the next one, which wasn't filmed, lost like 60%, with one kid even getting flung into the sun. I don't know what to tell you, OP. This woman can't seem to be stopped. Transfer schools. Even if the alternative is a former prison with a corporal punishment-happy staff and textbooks from 1960s Manila, just go. You'll be better off.

Have you considered that your son might end up transitioning and time traveling later in life to become this teacher?

@TSPGsmesStudio It’s a book series. The Magic School Bus and the teacher is Mrs. Frizzle. It’s a fun book series that teaches the kids about science.

So stop signing the effing permission slips! He can stay back and eat balcony sandwiches with the rest of the MAGA kids.

I’d demand to see the permission slips you would have had to have signed for all these field trips.

The teacher is trying to make learning fun. She might have many students who need movement, and this is her way of doing that. She probably doesn't get that some kids don't respond well to it. I personally don't do that kind of stuff because of my space and the time it takes, but I know ppl who do, and I've never heard of it traumatizing kids before. Changing schools because of one teacher seems pretty weird though. They'll only have her a few more months and you may very well be having another teacher just like that at the new school. Administrators love stuff like that and will never tell the teacher to stop it. Maybe you could get a doctor's note to keep your kid out of these types of lessons in the future due to anxiety issues.

I think my kid had the same teacher last year! She took them to learn about salmon and my kid got squirted with salmon seamen! Totally unacceptable!

I went to this school as a kid. Once she took our class to the moon, we all had space suits but my classmates helmet broke. He froze to death and we just left him there. My mom took me out of that school after that. I’ll never go on a school bus again.

This is better than the indoctrination of DEI and brainwashing of kids to be trans-furries where the school pays for the cat tail to be surgically implanted. /s in case anyone is dumb enough.
