I have no idea what this is about, but I CAN say that this sort of social posturing, jostling for attention and coalition building is so far removed from authentic autistic experience it's not funny. This kind of shit - fashion, politics, gossip, cliques, etc - has been a burden the whole of my life and has cost me any chance of success. Because I have no way to navigate it. Why? Because I'm autistic and the inability to process social reciprocation is literally a defining characteristic. This picture is the perfect example of everything that neurotypical people do that has caused me so much grief. It's the drawing of lines, the "did you hear what she said???", the opaque social rules that mean you fit with "us" or "them".
The idea of tribalism within autism is an oxymoron. Outside of a simple desire for things to be correct, just and internally consistent the concept of forming social in and out groups is not something that fits with autistic traits. Who are these people? Why are they invading autism with their NT social BS?

When I say fashion, I don't mean nice clothes, I mean the social jostling and hierarchy forming stuff, likewise with gossip and politics. Because to do that you have to be able to process the social signalling going on and rapidly understand social position, etc. Non-ASD people seem to instinctively do things like defining "my crowd" and their place in it by testing and adjusting based on responses. If you don't have the ability to "read the room" that's pretty much impossible.

Since "autism awareness month" is founded by a gentleman who was anti vax and used chelation therapies and aversion therapies...perhaps it's time to stop pretending like either side is right or wrong and face the fact the month was built on false pretense.

We really need an alternative, purple or something.
Purple for autism acceptance. But with acceptance meaning accepting that autistic people exist and are deserving of support & respect, not accepting autism to the point of denying that it can cause us harm.

I relate to this all too well the psychologist that diagnosed me with level 1 autism 7 months ago at almost 32 told me after I got my diagnosis that he doesn’t view autism as a disability but a superpower. I had to restrain myself and then the bastard says I barely have level 1 support needs wtf
