Lightfoot halfling? Naaah, you're not lightly footing anywhere with the 60,000 lbs of gear I sto- found on the ground innocently. Now give me your consumables, gold, and rare items.

I didn't murder legions of goblins for these!! NO!

“Listen you said there is a goblin problem and, you druids should really have an armory. Don’t worry where I got all 200 of these assorted weapons, just know that if or when they comeback, and I am offering you SUCH a generous deal for all of them. Better to have a sword and not need it, then to be without one when you desperately need it after all” -Astarion probably

These are treatos!

u/THEbiMAKER Feb 15 '25

This is making me realize how lazy I am with the looting. I usually just have Astarion stack sleight of hand stuff until he can steal all the gold off of merchants and then just never bother with grinding for loot.

Cursed to put my hands on everything...

u/SmiteJuggernaut Feb 15 '25

That's a lot of work. Become an oath breaker and have a merchant magically appear in the shadow curse. Easiest way to become a millionaire after a dozen rests. Stumbled upon this by accident, thank me later.

have a merchant magically appear in the shadow curse.

Teach me your ways....

17

u/SmiteJuggernaut Feb 15 '25

Improvised weapon on merchant + fast travel before they hit the targeted area = houdini act. Followed by enslaved robbery. Happy extortion! In Bhaals name

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

I can understand the words you're saying but as a new player, I understand none of it.

u/PlentyIndividual3168 Feb 16 '25

I JUST came across a vid where someone explained this... I think...

Always amazes me the kind of stuff people come up with.

And I'm all for it.

8

u/uhhhchaostheory Feb 15 '25

I do both. Just ended act 2 with 15k gold. We are rolling up to Baldur’s Gate rich.

12

u/KaeJotheFirst Feb 15 '25

I ended Act 2 with 73k gold. All looting. 😭 (My charisma discount was like 111%)

1

u/uhhhchaostheory Feb 15 '25

Oh shit, I gotta up my game.

3

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

Bro didn't need to one-up you like that.

u/Foodening Feb 15 '25

Reminds me of back in the day my friend was watching me and another friend finishing act 1. I asked him if we’re good on money and he asked how much we had. Showed him the 50k we had and he understood why it took us 65 hours to finish act 1

5

u/Reddit-ScorpioOJR Feb 15 '25

That makes me think about when I hopped in my friends first time run and found half the gear I would've used he hadn't had the gold to buy from vendors

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

yea instead of OPs picture, my Arron had like 40 pages of crates. same with 50k in Act 1. 60k in Act 2, but that's because I don't have a vendor right now. my camp chest is LOADED and all Act 3 vendors will be 100% approval lol

u/jonosvision Feb 15 '25

I really wish there was a way to purge the seller's inventory! I'm the same way, I loot everything since I don't want to use exploits to get free gold (except pickpocketing Withers shhh) and oh boy their inventory looks like that too!

16

u/HiccupAsGaeilge Feb 15 '25

I sell them a crate. You can open the crate in their inventory and move the items from their inventory into it. Honestly it takes more time to do this than just searching for what you want in their messy inventory. But it just looks so clean after!

8

u/mighij Feb 15 '25

You can shift click items and drag them.

Be wary though, once dumped my entire inventory on the floor. Picking up after myself wasn't fun.

1

u/jonosvision Feb 15 '25

That's a great idea. I never thought of that!

7

u/Caverjen Feb 15 '25

On one of my playthroughs I gathered all my loot into containers and sold the containers. It's nice for traders like Dammon to keep their inventories from being cluttered. I'm using a controller so I can't drag and drop from the seller's inventory.

6

u/Celestial_Squids Feb 15 '25

I’m on controller too and this is how I do it. The other advantage is that if they somehow die and you accidentally loot their body, it drops their most expensive items and you get back several containers worth thousands of gold instead of one or two items and some potions.

2

u/thetwist1 Feb 15 '25

I just put all of the stuff to sell in a pouch or crate and sell the whole crate to the merchant.

11

u/Zanah_0ria Warlock Feb 15 '25

I am in awe. It's almost beautiful to watch haha

10

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 15 '25

Need a bow?

3

u/Zanah_0ria Warlock Feb 15 '25

Yes please

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 15 '25

Goblin or Elven?

1

u/Zanah_0ria Warlock Feb 15 '25

Elven of course

2

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

Sorry fresh out. If you refer to the screenshot, there were never any elven.

1

u/Zanah_0ria Warlock Feb 16 '25

I thought you had more. I'm somehow disappointed.

3

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

He turns away and ignores you, less interested in this conversation than before...

2

u/Zanah_0ria Warlock Feb 16 '25

That hurt right here in my meow meow

7

u/skoomaking4lyfe Feb 15 '25

Now rob him and sell it all to Dammon.

6

u/develev711 Feb 15 '25

I like dammon as my favorite buyer since hes in every act, though I usually sell him a bag so i can put all the clutter somewhere, 😄

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 15 '25

:O where's he in A1?

2

u/ThetaZZ Feb 15 '25

In the Grove lol

2

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

Only after the fighting started did I realize I missed this area completely at first. I'm new lol.

1

u/develev711 Feb 15 '25

Across the way from aunty ethel i usually give him a buch of gold to raise his sell price since i use him throughout 😉

2

u/UnjustBaton1156 Feb 15 '25

Can you explain that? You give him gold instead of selling loot to him? And that makes the stuff he sells to be more or less expensive after? Or maybe it will raise his attitude of you & the discount. Am about to start a second playthrough and looking for things to do a bit differently this go around

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

I think it might be any favorably viewed transaction. If you use the barter tab instead of the vendor tab, (somewhere in the top middle), you can just give them stuff. "He'll find this favorable" or whatever pops up. Lol of course he does, you're offering to "barter" 10k gold for nothing. xD I don't know the exact math behind #s to get to x,y,z favorability or the discount % afterwards though.

1

u/develev711 Feb 16 '25

As you give items and gold to vendors they start to build rep, then the value of the remaining items you sell to them is higher

1

u/ParanoidTelvanni Feb 16 '25

Make sure to barter free stuff first to max friendship. It carries between Acts so you can always get the best prices with only 1 round of bribery.

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

What stuff is even free? We talking dirt cheap like 1g?

1

u/ParanoidTelvanni Feb 16 '25

Its based on gold, so any item works. The higher your Charisma the less you'll need and greater the discount.

3

u/jeremycb29 Feb 15 '25

If you load him up when you go into combat against the grove is he encumbered?

3

u/PedroPandeCoco Feb 15 '25

Oh, I'm not the only one in need? Because it seems to me, I'm the only one in need of a quick way to liquidate and, my guy, I do not have a bag of holding nor do I have an infinite amount of space in my a- so, please, turn these items into gold and give me some potions and food before I punt you to Baldur's Gate 4.

He replenishes!

5

u/karry245 Feb 15 '25

NPCs refresh their stock after each long rest.

2

u/Vinkhol Feb 15 '25

And level-up!

Although it's been a couple months since I played, was that ever changed? I used to respec someone with withers and then level them in front of a vendor to get all their elixirs

1

u/TheOvershear Feb 15 '25

Makes me wish pickpocketing wasbt so OP in this game. I found myself not caring about the trading/economy mechanics by act 2 because I realized I could just steal anything I wanted. (Or at least steal enough to afford the more expensive things)

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

Right but that's what's cool is you can play it that way and look at through the scope of the mechanics, or a more RP tinted lens. Instead of, "pickpocketing is easy in this game" it could be, "I am a god of the pockets."

1

u/deadmenrunning Feb 18 '25

I just knock them out inside a fog cloud after all the inventory is bagged. Traders have such low hp it's easy. Except for some exceptions like hologram.

1

u/kyle_kafsky Feb 15 '25

More well armed than Viktor Bout.

1

u/emerald-rabbit Feb 16 '25

How!?

1

u/_UNDO_KEY_ Feb 16 '25

Time, lad. Time.

1

u/stalkakuma Feb 17 '25

Wow, just give 3 clerics with animate weapon to defend the grove after this

1

u/OnceUpona_BlueMoon Feb 19 '25

Oh my gods this is so true. The amount of garbage I have dumped on this man is actually insane.
