So a TM was an old Pokémon mechanic where you would get these disc that could be used to teach a pokemon a move. They would break after a use though, meaning you only got to use each one once. New ones could also be bought from various locations
There was also the HMs in pokemon. These were infinite use discs that would teach your pokemon a move that also performed an action in the games world outside of combat.
This could be things like riding on its back, flying from location to location, and cut small trees.
