Memories of uni and paying £1.50 for a double vodka red bull
Edit: thank you for all the stories, great going down memory lane and hearing about everyone's uni experience back when we didn't have many cares in the world 😅
I don't think they can promote drinking nights at bars anymore, atleast in IL. I don't live there anymore so I'm not sure but I think I remember laws stopping "shots 2 for $x" or "ladies free" nights or any other deal to push young adults to drink.
Illinois has some legit party nights at bars around college campuses back 15+ years ago, not sure about now. The long islands were at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale I think but maybe Naperville, it was a blur.
Right now at this moment, in my country, long Islands are about $4-5. Specials $2-3. Anyway point is I can't relate to these prices without someone mentioning the current price. 😅
I had 21 shots of Jager to celebrate my 21st bday while I was in college. That was 12 years ago and I haven't touched Jager since. Just looking at the bottle makes me nauseous.
The question is what kind of jagerbombs did you have? Was it just a shot of redbull and shot of jager in a regular glass? Or was it the whole can with a hole punched in the side, the jager poured in the hole, and you shotgun it?
We didn't charge for beer but the Deephers would come over and charge $2 for Mac and cheese and split the proceeds to cover our beer costs. Those girls were classic.
What happened was everyone bought ten at a time at like 3:45 and then you usually passed out on a tree stump in someone's yard a few hours later. Damn those were the days
We’ll see kids it all started one Friday morning a fifth of fireball was coffee by noon I was plastered by the time the game started I was half naked running across the football field being chased.
I remember the last time this was reposted, someone in the comments made and posted a decent mashup of this transitioning into a future, much larger, performance. It was nice.
I graduated college in 2003 and our bar on campus sold 50 ounce beers for five dollars. Just enough time when our teacher threw on North by Northwest and passed out we could run and drink 2 and then run back and check out of class by the time he woke up. We were then shit housed
My school wouldn't let us take most beverages into sporting events becuase, well, they knew we'd sneak in booze. However, they let us bring in capri sun, cause they figured how could we fake those? We'd use a straw from a different pouch to push between the two sides at the top of the bag, suck out juice and blow back in 151.
Honestly, I was a much better student after a couple of beers. I would always be raising my hand and interacting with the teacher. No beer me would just sit back and be quiet.
I used to work in a busy club that was favoured by the local sports teams and minor celebrities, and I'd have every Friday night off, go collect my wages, then go get drunk in the club with the boys. £1 vodka redbulls covering the end of the bar, and some of the dirtiest hangovers I've ever experienced. Good times.
Found a place that did £2 bomb drinks, jaeger, glitter (golschlager), fireball, etc. Buddy walks up to the bar, slaps down £20 and basically says "keep em coming"
Or attempting "Centurion" with my flatmates. 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes. Though one of the guys was Muslim so he substituted beer for energy drinks. Not sure which was stupider tbh, but he tapped out first. It sounds easy enough, but it gets surprisingly rough as you go on
Yes! The heart murmors were something else! 😂 But back to normal in the morning after hitting reset. Our bodies didn't know what a hangover even was unless you seasoned until about 5. A normal 3am night and I was fine in the morning.
My brain has always cared more about value vs cost. If you told me that you would give me three vodka Red Bulls in exchange for an hour of work, I would jump all over that.
there was a place i used to go to in the early 00's that had rum and coke in paper cups starting at a quarter at 7 PM, $.50 at 8, $.75 at 9, and finally $1 at 10 with the special ending at 11 PM.
the Pennant East was absolutely nuts on those nights.
Haha! Exactly this. They weren't allowed to make a quad so like you say they were pissed when I made a quaddie voddie in a plastic pint glass right in front of them
We had Penny pitchers when I went to college. Paid $3 admission they gave you a pitcher at the door and you could fill it up for a penny from 8pm to 11pm but they only gave out so many so we would bring a cooler and wait in line until they opened.
Bout to head up to my uni town with my wife, four hours away. Visiting a friend for his 40th, all the old boys back together again with their partners. We’re stopping overnight in my uni town on the way before continuing on for another two hours in the morning to their city up north. Such mixed feelings to be going back to that town, so many memories, returning with my now wife and a child at home with the grandparents. So much has changed but I bet that old place is still the same. Going to be staying in a hotel that was so far out of my league back then. Surreal, totally surreal.
Went to "uni" at an urban US campus in New England where we didn't have AC in the dorms, and every day from Spring 08 on when we'd have the windows open SOMEONE was blaring this album. Shit was literally everywhere. Good times, god fucking dammit I'm old.
