I feel kinda out of the loop and don’t know this song or the group, and after reading all the comments I still can’t figure it out, but I am in love with this song!! Did they record it right here outside and it got famous? I see a name mgmt, is that it?

Whats special about this version is that they're still kids themselves, and it'd be another 5-6 years before the official album version reached global charts!

Yep. I saw them live in ‘07 or ‘08 when they opened for Of Montreal in New Orleans. Both of them gave shout outs to theirs dads in the audience because they came along for the tour. This song and Electric Feel convinced me to get the album later that week.

What happened to them... Broken up?

Nope they're still together, they've matured musically and in 2024 released one of the most beautiful albums I've heard in years!

Check out this lovely song with an even lovelier music video that brought me to tears first time I watched:

Thank you for this! Indeed a lovely song and music video. No idea they were still making music!

It was a sleeper hit.

MGMT had this song as early as 2003.

It’s the fifth track on their debut album Oracular Spectacular, which didn’t release until Dec 2007.

The track became insanely popular in mid 2008-2010. Like it was impossible to not hear this song on the radio every hour.

Their discography is very solid but I personally believe Little Dark Age (2018) is their best album all the way through.

Yeah, I’m surprised at all the people who haven’t heard this before. It was absolutely inescapable in the late 00s and early 10s. I guess I’m getting old lol.

I was in my late 20s during this these years and have never heard this song or of this group.

And yet even though I'm a huge music buff, today is the first time I can recall hearing this song.

Glad it's not just me, because I was starting to think I was getting punked over here, lol.

No there's plenty of people saying it in this thread.

It was not a popular song overall, at least in the US. Some people didn't believe me, so I found the evidence and showed them. It spent six total weeks on Billboard top 100, peaking at 91. The way some talk, it's like it was a smash number 1 hit.

So it was huge with a specific group of people, that set who were in college in 2009 to say 2011 who actually went to these events. Compared to everyone, that's not a lot of people.

It just wasn't a wildly popular song overall in America.

Their whole discography is really good. Great band that takes risks and gets weird but stays catchy

It's got a catchy hook and sound, sure. But it's quite eclectic.

I've played this song for people all day asking who knows it. Out of 50 or so people, 3 or 4 said they had heard it before.

Interesting. Atleast in the Midwest I feel like most people in their 30s would know it. I'm 34 and came out when I was in high school. This was definitely their poppiest song. They start getting more psychedelic and weird as the discography goes on. Definitely check out the album Little Dark Age. It's awesome

The recorded version is awesome but quite a bit different. If you like this one check out the version on 'Climbing to New Lows' - it's their demo album and sounds very similar
