Hong Kong?

u/SlovenecVTujini Feb 02 '25
Looks like HK from Victoria peak, presumably somewhere slightly off Lugard road.

u/Law-of-Poe Feb 02 '25
Probably one of the most popular spots in HK. Not really a secret…

u/djoliverm Feb 02 '25
I have a picture I took that I framed from that spot in my living room lol, recognized it instantly.
Tbf it's a really great spot.

I have pictures from Victoria Peak stored away in a box somewhere in my basement from a trip to HK as a child in 1987. I remember watching 747s come in low to the west, fly over Kowloon, and bank steeply to land at Kai Tak from the north to face the offshore winds.

The one time I was in HK for vacation and went to Victoria Peak, the weather got really foggy -_-
I guess I need to do another trip there

It doesn't say she said she knew a secret spot. it says she knows a spot. I know a spot too. It right here in my living room. Knowing a spot just involves being familiar with at least one geographical location.
8
u/Grisu1805 Feb 02 '25
She never said she knows a secret spot. Just... a spot. And I'm no expert, but that looks like a spot to me.
9
u/youoweji Feb 02 '25
knew it was HK as soon as i saw the vid lol i’ve been there a couple times. the views pretty nice tho.
5
u/joebluebob Feb 02 '25
Never said it was a secret just that she knows a spot. I know a place for good cheese steaks but if it was a secret only I knew they'd have gone out of business.

These "be amazed" posts of China always feel like advertisements to me.
Then again I see that smog hanging there in the background.
49
u/Jack_Z Feb 02 '25
Yes HK I believe from Lion Rock
64
u/rwwishart Feb 02 '25
This is Victoria Peak somewhere near the Lugard Road lookout. Contrary to OP’s insinuation, it is a well-known and easily accessible area. Note that they’re clearly on the same side of the harbor as the International Financial Centre so it cannot be Lion Rock.

u/SlovenecVTujini Feb 02 '25
When I google lion rock it tells me it’s next to Kowloon and this is definitely from Hong Kong island
9
Feb 02 '25
Theres a paved walking trail along The Peak, down from the facilities at the top.

Hong Kong is amazing, but it looks like she's climbed over the fence in Lugard road. Dangerous, the drop offs are very steep.
Obligatory, I can see my home from here
174
u/RevWaldo Feb 02 '25
Gotta respect no one built a house there for the view, knowing that building there structurally would be stupid.
71
u/Zealousideal-Ad-8990 Feb 02 '25
They used to try and build on the slopes. A few land slides in the 1980s pointed out how fragile the soil is. Now, when building anywhere the piling is super deep.

u/JohnCenaJunior Feb 02 '25

This is off-rail from the peak. And it would be like having sex 5 meters away from prime time amusement park with a thousand people looking st you. You also don’t need to ‘discover’ this shit. You can see the exact same thing from behind the guardrail. This is asking to die for social media clout.

Thought that was obvious regarding the title but I’ll explain it just because you replied so nicely “She said she knows a spot” a spot everybody in the city knows. Point taken?
2
u/stroker919 Feb 02 '25
Title is accurate. Would be weird if she was unaware.
Like somebody in DC being like WTF WE HAVE A MONUMENT TO WASHINGTON HERE?

First time I went to HK I really felt like that, like being on a cool alien / future planet. Skyscrapers above, people frying shrimp on stalls at street level. I instantly fell in love (but I am aware that I only saw the veneer)

That's a great view but why is that 9:16 and why is there a 3x loop? That really makes the video worse for me.

I recommend reading Gweilo: Memoirs of a Hong Kong Childhood. It’s Martin Booth’s vivid, nostalgic account of growing up as a curious British boy in 1950s colonial Hong Kong. It’s filled with rich cultural observations, adventures through bustling streets and hidden alleys, and a sharp contrast between colonial privilege and local life. This post made me think of his memories of being high up in the hills overlooking the city. It’s a captivating read if you love memoirs that explore identity, childhood, and cross-cultural experiences. It can be found free in a .pdf on the Internet for anyone with minimal online skills.

Idk why but this video instantly reminded me of the cyberpunk 2077 scene with Johnny and V on top of that building just before the last mission.

Nice. And now the internet knows so you can enjoy the obliteration of that spot over the next few weeks.

u/tickingboxes Feb 02 '25
Nah this already is, and has been for many years, a very very very popular tourist spot. Literally half the photos you’ve ever seen of HK have been taken from this exact place lol
2
u/onefragmentoftime Feb 02 '25
Everyone knows where it is now since police have tried to refrain people with bright fluorescent orange tape... You know, in case they had trouble locating it before.
8
u/Loki4Maj0r Feb 02 '25
Maybe is me but this is incredibly sad, is just concrete.
9
u/NotHearingYourShit Feb 02 '25
Homes, services, and systems people use to be able to live and sustain. I am all for nature, and could never live in a city personally, but cities are also beautiful in their own way, and are essential to humanism. Cities throughout history are where arts, universities, innovation and social development occur.
5
u/Reasonable_Sky771 Feb 02 '25
Hong Kong actually has very beautiful nature as well, and lots of it. It’s all in all an incredibly beautiful place. And awesome kind and hardworking people. So what makes me extremely sad is the current political situation. Hongkongers deserve so much better.

u/jiksun Feb 03 '25
Over 50% of land in Hong Kong is natural forest and mountains—you typically only see photos of the concrete jungle along the harbor though. There's a whole other side to the city.

u/NotHearingYourShit Feb 02 '25
While there is still room for improvement Honk Kong has made major progress by every metric dealing with smog and air quality, all while its city has grown massively:

You can't see the absolute master class of air pollution that you see in the day, isn't that why the government takes all the pictures at night😂

I think I know the spot, it's probably blocked by fences by a trail. There are signs that says don't climb the fence. I've seen people climbing over the fence and taking pictures of Hong Kong.

So many hateful boring and just... dull unimaginative stupid people or bots in these comments. It's so sick.
