Glad to know there is someone out there who is always ready, always on the look out for kits and Katz that need of a rescuing in many if not mostly all scenarios. Can’t save the world on empty stomach just as much as you can’t rescue a cat without treats! Cat-treats are in fact the ‘glue’ that holds the fabric of time together. So next time you save a cat , give it a treat.

I don't know what the captions say, but this is a longer version that shows more footage of the cat at the end. At least I think it's the same cat. In some clips the M on her forehead seems more prominent than others.
I've gone into traffic to grab dogs before, but I would be so nervous about a cat because you get one chance to scruff them so they can't get away and they are so much faster than most dogs and less trusting of humans. I'd be terrified it would just run into the other side of traffic to get away from me. What a gift this lady has to do that so confidently.
It took me months of daily interaction to get the neighborhood feral comfortable with me, and thankfully I was able to scruff him and get him medical attention when he showed up hurt. But I know my chances of success would have been zero if I hadn't put time into building that relationship.

From my own recent experience in Turkey, many cats there are relatively friendly. Of course there are still cats that are hard to catch, but the average stray cat there is probably going to be easier to pet and lift up, compared to other countries with fewer and more feral stray cats. (I was actually visiting Turkey specifically to visit cat rescuers and help them with their rescue work. If you are interested to hear more, feel free to pm me!)

Turkiye love cats. we went 2 years ago during the holidays and there were cats everywhere. asleep in the shops, in the holy mosque, in the restaurants, even their magnets promote their cats.
it was really something to see all different breeds and colors of cats in our time there.

I'd assume she would find a new home for the kitten. She had 2 paralysed dogs that she adopted (one of them passed away due to age and diseases) a crow that is unable to fly, a paralysed cat and probably some more that I don't know of 😅 But there are many animals under her protection looking for a new home other than the ones she adopted.

She seems like an amazing person and is a great source of good for this world. That being said I think what she did was very dangerous and could have resulted in either her injury or a massive car pile up harming others on the road. Im glad it didnt end that way but i would never attempt to stop traffic going highway speeds by walking infront of them.

I was recently in Turkey myself (for my animal welfare association) and while there generally are many people who feed stray cats, give them water, or set up little houses, most of the time no one really feels responsible if a cat needs medical treatment, because it's expensive and it's "just a stray and not a pet".
That means, if a cat is sick or injured, many people will just walk past and ignore it, instead of helping. Also, many people believe that neutering cats (and dogs) is wrong, so they are against it and this leads to more strays that will suffer.
Of course there are also people who dislike the strays (even more so, if the number of strays keeps growing), who even resort to poisoning or violence to get rid of them, because it's also not really prosecuted, so if it's a stray cat, you can do whatever and get away with it. One of the Rescuers that I visited was feeding the strays in her area on a regular basis and a big group of cats (around 20) seemed to be missing recently. She was really worried that someone might have poisoned them, because they seemed to go missing all at the same time. Luckily, she found them and said they apparently just found a different area to live in, but it is a true concern.

She needs to have one of those hand-held STOP signs and a reflective vest, even the hard-hat. Yes, it is still dangerous as heck and most people don't even respect obvious professionals but it would really help.
Having those three things to stop traffic gives visibility and really appeals to credibility, which most humans in most (some?) countries are going to partially respect.

not just cats btw, I've seen the same thing happen with puppies, hedgehods and wounded birds.
we tend not to think about these animals as strays, but just other creatures who live alongside us in parks, gardens etc. it helps that most of the residential apartments you see in most of the older parts of istanbul have their own garden with bunch of vegetation, flowers and trees, so there's actually some habitat for these animals to survive.
it's suprising to me how americans and western europeans sometimes scoff at this, even though the result is basically we have cats instead of rats. much preferable I think.

I was absolutely shocked when I visited NYC this summer and found out that to combat the rat problem they recently started using trash cans instead of just piling the bags on the street for collection.

A few cheeses, butter honey jams, breads, tea, fruit some cold meat like a salami. If you order the extra plate of suguk and eggs they give you more bread to dip in that too. Everything is endless they keep bringing out refills on everything but the eggs and suguk. The coffee is ok they are trying to make American filter coffee but stick to the tea and Turkish coffee for dessert

I do this thing where I pretend every person who turns frustratingly slow has just discovered why moving a fish tank with water still in it is a horrible idea. And everybody who drives like their life depends on getting to a stoplight a fraction of a second faster actually has to shit really urgently (etc etc, trying to assume the best).
If I can manage to convince my brain that traffic jams are caused by people who interrupted it to save small animals, I think this will be a positive change to my view of traffic. :D

I don't want to be cynical, but looking at this video that was the first thing I thought. I would love for the kitten to be saved, but it's far too dangerous to every single driver (and the lady herself).
I have to believe she'd face manslaughter charges and a crushing guilt if she caused a human death or five, trying to save this kitten.

It's not cynical to care about multiple people's lives more than a single kitten.
Don't get me wrong, I saw a bunny get iced by the car in front of me on the way to work and it made me really sad and I can still see it happening in my mind (poor bunny.... they actually braked which is what ultimately lead to bunny's demise... bunny was panic running and had it timed out but the braking threw it off). But if that person had swerved and had a head-on collision with oncoming traffic I would be much more traumatized.

Good intentions but this is a horrible idea. I was rear ended due to a sudden stop in traffic on the highway and it totaled my car while my two pets were inside. Luckily we all survived. This act of kindness endangered not only her life but the lives of the everyone on that road.

A couple years ago, a woman stopped on the highway to save a family of ducks. A bike rear-ended her stopped car, and both passengers of said bike died. A really unfortunate story, and a good showcase of how fast things can go wrong on the highway

Nope, he wasn't tailgating me. I was stopped for at least 10 seconds before I got rear ended. According to the three-second rule that is not considered tailgating. However, he's rightfully liable for the accident and I will be cashing his insurance check.

Or people could just drive responsibly. There is not even the smallest reason why any of this should risk a collision. Stopping is a normal part of driving. If people fail to pay attention and hit things (since there is no such thing as an accident) then they should be removed from the road forever

In June 2010, the woman had stopped her car in the left-hand lane of a provincial highway in Candiac, south of Montreal, to help the ducks cross the road. That's when a motorcycle carrying Andre Roy and his teenage daughter Jessie slammed into her idling vehicle, killing both.
A jury convicted her in 2014 of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Stopping in the middle of a highway is not a normal part of driving. In a road with a higher speed limit this could've caused an accident even if people were driving responsibly, because waving your hands and moving into the road is again not a normal or responsible thing to do. Besides someone might panic and cause an accident

Yes, that's why they have minimum speed limits on highways and laws about obstructing traffic, because of all that normal stopping.
Fun Fact, you're actually supposed to plow through wild animals on the roadway so you don't get struck by another vehicle.

I've driven in heavy traffic pretty much every day for thirty five years. I have never hit anything at all the entire time.
I don't even understand what point you are trying to make with your example. Someone merged and took your space? There is a way to restore that space, by backing off. You have that option. If that damages your pride, you can take a risk and tighten up against the person in front of you. But if you rear end someone because of that, it is absolutely your fault.
Look, a lot of people want to justify their collisions, but in the end if you hit something it is your fault and you are a shit driver. No, the pedestrian did not jump out in front of you. You just drove too fast through an area with low visibility and pedestrian traffic. No, the driver did not cut you off and make you hit them. You were too fast and too close. No, the weather conditions didn't make you slide and crash. You chose not to pull over when the weather was bad.

unpopular opinion- that’s creating a dangerous situation for herself, and more importantly others, all for an animal that wasn’t even in the actual road
her heart is huge but give it a think - for a kitten that is not in immediate danger maybe wait for a lull in traffic instead of bringing a busy three lane road to a halt in an extremely unsafe manner
