I really dislike the feeling of envy.

16

u/Kidney05 18d ago

These waterfront locations always make me anxious from storm swells destroying them, so let that relieve your feelings of envy.

23

u/Scenick 17d ago

Good thing it's in Scotland and not Florida, where homes are built from bricks instead of plywood.

It makes me more envious. Just online data backup, stow valuables elsewhere and let the water consume you.

We've got family in Scotland on my wife's side and it's by far the most common country we visit outside of Canada and we love it but well timed camera shots in vacation spots do a lot of heavy lifting.

If I were to move to Scotland I'd probably go to Inverness.

2

u/joaby1 17d ago

Why Inverness?

7

u/whackamolereddit 17d ago

It reminds me a lot of where I live (New Hampshire). I prefer quiet, smaller cities to larger ones and Edinburgh and Glasgow is much too hustle and bustle for me.

It's got enough to keep me entertained, and while I haven't skied in Scotland yet I'm an avid skier and it's close to several mountains.

I've spent my whole while coastal / coastal adjacent and the firths really scratch that itch.

In general it's a good city if you like a low speed life.

I find I get the most accurate reads on Scotland living from long abroad expats because there's one joke I hear often enough from Scots that I have to wonder how much of it is a joke: nobody hates Scotland like a Scot.

Why? Amazing view.

u/Ipoopoo69 18d ago edited 18d ago

I found it! Kilbowie House Oban, Scotland. It's a beaut!

You can vacation in it.

8

u/Great-weather-5122 17d ago edited 17d ago

For almost $900... For 2 nights... A mix between a townhouse in NY and a castle... Amazing but I can't afford that 😭

10

u/OkDimension8720 18d ago

They have full ray traced global illumination too! Must be RTX 5090

3

u/Samantaa_olive 18d ago

I would like to see it

27

u/Ali80486 18d ago

God I wish my desk looked that tidy. Or didn't face the wall

26

u/commanderizer- 18d ago

This is not what the desk of someone who actually does work looks like.

This person pretends to work and spends more time making sure their desk is organized in a grid.

Two screens parallel to one another?

Neither laptop plugged in?

It's like they have never looked at a monitor and staged a photo according to what they think it would look like.

Let's print out papers and highlight entire paragraphs so people think I'm doing important work. Hurr Durr.

10

u/jane_911 18d ago

also all the papers... in front of the keyboard, like no.

3

u/Aint_EZ_bein_AZ 18d ago

this a terrible layout to actually get stuff done. Girl just highlights stuff all day for Instagram. Look at that coffee location.

2

u/cjpgole 18d ago

And they haven't even highlighted 90% of the text.

4

u/indarye 18d ago

I immediately recognized it's her neat study setup ♥️

3

u/Key-Moments 18d ago

Yes. I love her productivity approach. God knows I would not be able to do it with that distraction!

62

u/knick1982 18d ago

I loved it there! This is where I want to retire if the country will allow Americans to live before we remove any chance of visiting another country.

32

u/CptES 18d ago

You might think you want to, but the west coast in the winter is pretty horrific weather relatively to the rest of the country.

You get maybe six hours of sunshine a day, rain almost every day and if you're really unlucky, 70-90mph winds rolling through.

It is incredibly beautiful in the summer though, I have to admit. Empty, but beautiful.

11

u/styuR 18d ago

By sunshine, you mean daylight I'm assuming.

9

u/CptES 18d ago

Take your pick, it's Scotland so you can have overcast and wet, clear and dry or clear and wet.

And yes, Scotland is one of those countries where we get rain literally out of nowhere on blue sky.

3

u/Alissinarr 18d ago

Very Florida

3

u/styuR 18d ago edited 17d ago

Seems a fair gamble that you'd assume I'm not Scottish, especially with the amount of larpers related to William Wallace but aye. 6 hours of actual sunshine is incredibly rare outside of our one week summer, and surprisingly, this week.

4

u/Packeselt 18d ago

laughs in Alaskan

3

u/LawrenceLongshot 18d ago

rain almost every day and if you're really unlucky, 70-90mph winds rolling through.

Not to mention watching your telecom box going for a swim downhill (happened to my guild leader in WoW last year).

I am living in Seattle right now. It was like staying home but with nicer people and amazing food :). I do love the weather here in Seattle as well

Reeeallllyyyyyy good whisky.

3

u/Darko33 18d ago

Easily among the best single malts

2

u/FantasticPear 18d ago

Hands down my favorite. Distillers edition is also particularly good

2

u/Totes-Sus 17d ago

My partner got me a bottle of that for one birthday, I still dream about it

2

u/tekanet 18d ago

My first time was with Oban ❤️

11

u/Broken-halo27 18d ago

Meanwhile I’m looking at the big rig haphazardly parked in front of my office window spewing grey smoke…. I’m presently feeling alittle jealous!

4

u/Plank_of_String 18d ago

This is looking out on the isle of Kerrera, somewhere along Gallanach road

6

u/Murtomies 18d ago

The overly tidy desk along with TWO laptops used simultaneously makes this feel quite fake. Staging a desk like this in a movie wouldn't happen because it looks unrealistic.

But goddamn that's the most amazing view you could have at your desk.

4

u/rhabarberabar 17d ago

It's influencer content.

4

u/Dunder_Chief1 18d ago

You folks make my favorite scotch.

Oban Little Bay Single Malt Scotch.

It's like you bottle the essence of what we're seeing here.

3

u/SeriousCow1999 18d ago

The really amazing thing is how clean your desk is.

3

u/dtorrance88 18d ago

Serial killer vibe

3

u/indarye 18d ago

It's the desk of a content creator called Merve who's doing study with me videos on YouTube.

2

u/Wild-Disaster-7976 18d ago

Yeah! I play their videos in my classroom. My students love them.

3

u/TheSensiblePrepper 18d ago

Great Scotch Whisky too.

2

u/mainangethe 18d ago

Looks very peaceful

2

u/sopaNAezdeku 18d ago

So pretty! Little jealous :)

2

u/84kev84 18d ago

I envy u

2

u/evanisafaceonearth 18d ago

Home of my favorite scotch. Been on my bucket list for a few years, so I appreciate you posting your beautiful view! I hope I can make it there eventually.

2

u/bloqed 18d ago

looks really productive, and normal and not totally staged photo, i too enjoy squinting at my two laptops that definitely dont lock every 10 seconds while running on battery while not being able to reach the mouse

2

u/SadAndHappyBear 18d ago

Beautiful - love the whiskey! Was lucky to visit the distillery.

2

u/annoyed_lurker 18d ago

I love Oban Scotch. My father in law visited there and brought some to the states. Amazing!

2

u/60CatDad02 18d ago

1

u/DistributionTime_Is0 18d ago

This doesnt feel real

I would do ZERO work with this view

1

u/daynanfighter 18d ago

Looks like you’ve got oled screens installed for windows

1

u/Biggs17 18d ago

That’s awesome! What a view

1

u/grossmaul1000 18d ago

U are missing the pizza party at the office

1

u/Emergency-Pack-5497 18d ago

Nice place to work! The work itself appears quite mundane though

1

u/lythander 18d ago

A lovely place with amazing views. Security guy me is concerned about what’s on those screens…

1

u/Timauris 18d ago

Hometown of one of my favorite bands.

1

u/Powerful_Parsnip6083 18d ago

I would never get anything done with a view like that. Beautiful.

1

u/male86 18d ago

No work has been done at that desk 😆

1

u/IHN_IM 18d ago

Beautiful!!

1

u/nor3k 18d ago

yeah yeah, "working"

1

u/TheMurmuring 18d ago

My home office window looks out to trees and I consider myself very fortunate. This is a whole other level above that.

1

u/jats82 18d ago

I don’t mean to be petty but I HATE YOU

1

u/Cherry_Littlebottom 18d ago

Wow beautiful, I’m very jealous.

1

u/Comfortable_Stick264 18d ago

I don't think I would be able to get much work done, when I have a view like that

1

u/Jumpy_Being_319 18d ago

Omg Life goal!!!

1

u/KlaudjaB1 18d ago

Lucky you, what a privilege!

1

u/firstcoastkilla 18d ago

You mean "not working from home"

1

u/CocoaAlmondsRock 18d ago

I would like to work from your home.

1

u/AlwaysOOTL 18d ago

Wow! What a view! Also the neatest desk I've ever seen.

1

u/CybGorn 18d ago

It's like living within an animated wallpaper.

1

u/currymonsterCA 18d ago

Wow that is awesome.... You live in such a beautiful town! I haven't been there in a few years, but I absolutely love walking on the path by the water :)

1

u/randomtask2000 18d ago

Scotland going to war?!

1

u/wassinderr 18d ago

Yeah the boat is just a cherry on top of this already bitchin view of a cake.

Respectfully fuck you and I hope your life remains wonderful. ❤️

1

u/tootsieroll19 18d ago

I'm not sure if I'll be able to work though

1

u/Eeeeeeeeehwhatsup 18d ago

Breathtaking, beautiful and relaxing! 😍

1

u/PrestigiousFlower714 18d ago

I too have my papers in a row like this on my desk while working.

1

u/kegsbdry 18d ago

Please get out of my dreams.

1

u/brute_red 18d ago

1

Rickets is a small price to pay for some peace and calm.

1

u/blackbow 18d ago

So jealous.

1

u/General-Cover-4981 18d ago

I need a fully WFH job then I am moving there now!

1

u/UnhappyCompote9516 18d ago

But how do you resist the call of the sea?

1

u/SagittaryX 18d ago

Just needs some Oban whisky to enjoy on the weekend after work, good drink.

1

1

u/LordJose03 18d ago

Beautiful!

1

u/LastClassForever 18d ago

That looks like a view i had when i visited Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland.

1

u/MeanBug4056 18d ago

Darn those Pirates 🏴‍☠️ destroying the view!

1

u/Traditional-Future-6 18d ago

Nice view you have. You're lucky to have that property.

1

u/Ill_Refrigerator_593 18d ago

A couple of decades back I was working near Oban.

Early one day I saw a Viking longboat appear out of the morning mists before vanishing back into the fog.

One of the strangest things I ever saw.

1

u/Backy22 18d ago

After traveling the world a bit, it is clear that we were brainwashed as children (US). Not the brainwashing mind you that conservatives would think though. I feel like I live in a 3rd world country sometimes...

Land of the free because of our exorbitant military spending; free from seeing that other countries are just as beautiful and free. I truly believe the extreme right just wants control of schools to bolster the idea that only the US can give them a good life. Any country that has the extreme homeless and prison population that that US has would be classified so much lower.

1

u/LMGDiVa 18d ago

Was Oban Star Racers named after this place? It's lovely.

1

u/shinseiromeo 18d ago

Where’s the obligatory pano over to the bottle of scotch?

1

u/xyzzy321 18d ago

Is this where the Oban scotch whiskey gets it name from?

Fantastic scotch, btw

1

u/Striking_Barnacle_31 18d ago

"Ships at a distance have every man’s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men."

1

u/Ikret 18d ago

ah, Oban. I remember passing through a couple of times during school since the southern ferry in the Hebrides ends up there. Very long ride, made you prone to classmates putting things on you while you slept through the hours long sail.

1

u/dunus 18d ago

One of my fav Scotch is OBAN

1

u/ChattMahjsquad 18d ago

My son and I visited Oban a few years ago while on a 15-day tour around the country (we rented a car). Absolutely loved it. You must check out the ice cream shop!! We brought back a bottle of Oban gin for my husband but my alcoholic brother got to it b4 we had a chance to even open it😡

1

u/darexinfinity 18d ago

Most of you will never afford a house like this.

1

u/BeNiceOrGoAwayPlease 18d ago

Hi OP, do you also make productivity videos?

"Study with me" kinda, to be precise? If yes, I've studied with you on YouTube! 😃

1

u/Arbennig 18d ago

Ooh. I once went to Oban in about 1985. Went there with a Welsh youth choir. Some locals sung back to us in Gaelic

1

u/scottyr16 18d ago

Beautiful! My Dad built a house on Loch Awe back in the 90's Looks like it's still there. We used to travel up to Oban often - great memories

1

u/WoodTransformer 18d ago

Oh, I’m terribly sorry you have to suffer through those breathtaking views every single day. The horror of having a quaint little boat right there, mocking you with all its dreamy Scottish charm. Must be awful. I’m sure you’re just melting with envy whenever someone actually boards that boat, and you’re stuck… working from home in one of the most scenic places imaginable. I can’t even fathom how you cope. Truly tragic.

1

u/MrsMiterSaw 18d ago

That is there not a literal flagon of scotch on your desk right now is a travesty. ;)

1

u/Ansia01 18d ago

I must admit, the view is breathtaking. Now let us talk about this person's severe case of OCD.

1

u/Uncle-Cake 18d ago

Nice and peaceful, until the Vikings invade.

1

u/Mall_Bench 18d ago

The ship has sailed ... that's life

1

u/LikeTheRussian 18d ago

Why do you have two laptops and why is your desk so organized?

1

u/[deleted] 18d ago

Pirates?

1

u/mightyopinionated 18d ago

Amazed at how organized you are!

1

u/decadenza 18d ago

One of my favorite places. My wife and I camped on the beach just north of town and ate our venison stew while watching the sun set into the ocean. Magic!

1

u/LidiaSelden96 18d ago

The work of my dreams

1

u/g06lin 18d ago

Enviable and inimitable work environment.

1

u/dutchman62 18d ago

Oban! I think I may have tasted some of your ,ahem, fine spirits

1

u/Stunning_Pick1065 18d ago

I wouldn’t do much work, but would sit for hours! Beautiful!

1

u/HaikuMadeMeDoIt 18d ago

So....Do you need a coworker, or.....

1

u/glishnarl 18d ago

Pick up some of that beautiful Oban whisky while you're there to enjoy that view.

1

u/listeningEars80 18d ago

No true scotsman sorts their paper so orderly 😋

1

u/Fhugem 18d ago

Working from home shouldn't feel like a vacation destination, but that view makes it hard to focus. Who would get anything done?

1

u/Latch2992 18d ago

Beautiful!

1

u/Sanchalily 18d ago

Well that is daydream beautiful!

1

u/TheHeroYouNeed247 18d ago

Is that Mr Fantastic's set-up?

1

u/ttbnz 18d ago

"Quick, there's a ship, I better lay out my papers neat and tidy"

1

u/sloppyrock 18d ago

We spent a week up that way after we got married and were traveling in Europe. Stayed by Loch Awe and went in to Oban from there.

We had beautiful weather mid summer which was wonderful

1

u/Starslimonada 18d ago

Wow! What kind of work do you do?

1

u/Sipthepond 18d ago

Beautiful!

1

u/Aint_EZ_bein_AZ 18d ago

I want a job where I just highlight stuff

1

u/CptStarKrunch 18d ago

Quick! Jack Sparrow is getting away!

1

u/PuzzleheadedLemon353 18d ago

Well that's cool to see floating by.

1

u/HoneyDesignSolutions 18d ago

Beyond jealous here! I wfh and have a nice setup. This is way cooler haha.

1

u/reduxiana 18d ago

aw, what a life! seems soooo relaxing every day. :)

1

u/lynxtosg03 18d ago

I visited Oban last year on my way to Iona and Mull. Great place with solid whisky. Make reservations early if you plan to eat by the port.

1

u/hirakath 18d ago

I miss views like this one.

1

u/Wild-Disaster-7976 18d ago

Is this Merve??? Study with me?

1

u/srbowler300 18d ago

Ahhh! The Beauxbatons returning to Hogwarts! So beautiful.

1

u/LTQLD 18d ago

You lucky bastard!

1

u/Euphoric_Muffin_4508 18d ago

Rather fort William or Inverness...

1

u/GladFeeling6700 17d ago

Simply gorgeous OP!

1

u/warrior41882 17d ago

Awesome.
I love the sailboat, does anyone know what kind it is? what do they call that style of boat?

1

u/jimb0j0nes2000 17d ago

I had the pleasure of working in Oban years ago, it's a stunning place but omg the amount of rain was impressive even for Scotland.

Apparently they have a foolproof way to predict the weather.

If the hills weren't visible in these lovely photos that would mean it was already raining. The fact the hills are visible means it's going to rain 😁

1

u/CA_catwhispurr 17d ago

Bet it’s hard to concentrate on work!

1

u/BusinessCondition826 17d ago

I visited that place yeaaaaars ago. Was Beautiful

1

u/StacksOfHats111 17d ago

Nicer than New Caledonia.

1

u/chuckie8604 17d ago

I call bullshit, no one keeps that many stacks of paper that neat and tidy with their drink that close to the laptop computer on a table of that size.

1

u/Emotional_Many_7706 17d ago

Who tf works from 2 laptops? Spent more time setting up the scene than actually working

1

u/hendrysbeach 17d ago

I LOVE a clean, well-organized desk..!

I noticed that before I noticed the spectacular view, haha.

Kudos, my friend.

1

u/sixup604 17d ago

I’d be like “By ye olde fuck, we time-slipped again, hide the monasteries, Fergus!”

1

u/dcoconutnut 17d ago

I love Scotland. Went there for a week and can't wait to go back again.

1

u/Optimal-Building1869 17d ago
