"new"

13yo tiktok-mfkers when they discover something.

Kashaka's has been around for centuries.

24

u/AtoB37 2d ago

They say for a newborn every joke is now. But yeah... also for us very nostalgic.

4

u/calangomerengue 2d ago

Came to say the same thing. Anything non-european/non-american gets so much disrespect.

2

u/momomomorgatron 1d ago

Like you'd think theyd be amazed it's a (probably) Ancient exotic instrument, but nooooooo

I am glad they shared it though, now I wanna get a pair

Why is this instant fun for my brain?

6

u/tacocollector2 2d ago

Simple, repetitive, soothing. Your brain like when it can predict things, that’s part of why we like music.

u/momomomorgatron 1d ago

If you're like me, I can imagine what it feels like in my hands, the sound with it, and then how it's also kinda a fidget. Like now I wanna get a pair and learn some songs written for them. Someone else mentioned they're called Shakasha originally from Africa.

Hella cool

“Guys wanna play two balls each hands? Shake shake boom boom”

2

u/Speedhabit 2d ago

I wonder what’s in them? Probably sand or little shells. Maybe rice. Oh no! What if it’s bones? No, no, bones are too big.

But baby bones aren’t.

No, no one would kill a bunch of babies just to make maracas. How would you kill all of those babies anyway? I’d use a tub…..you could kill 8 at a time that way. Plus it softens them up to get the bones out. Joe just had a baby…….I got a baby at home. I got a tub

I’ve been playing music for 35 years and I gotta admit, learning to play the Asalato is unexpectedly challenging.

There’s a weird sort of sixteenth note hiccup that you have to learn to bake in. Anyone else find this, or am I having a spaz attack?

This guy makes it sound wonderful.

1

u/Headstroke 2d ago

This guy faps hard

1

u/beanieweenieSlut 2d ago

Seems easy but some how I would mess it up and over complicate this

I followed the instructions, but I'm finding it really difficult to walk to the hospital currently.

1

u/aschaeffer878 2d ago

Rhythm, you have it or you don't, that's a fallacy.

I am very suspicious about just how easy this guy makes this look!

1

u/_2BKINDR 1d ago

We should get a few sets of these into the hands of frequent flyers so we can bring some vibes and humanity back to the airport

1

u/FilteredRiddle 1d ago

Yowie Deschanel always has some mad asalato beats.

Clackers in the '70s would shatter into pieces causing injury. How are these different?

1

u/momomomorgatron 1d ago

Clackers as far as inknow are just weird ass toys. Like yeah, im.being a privileged 27 year old, and yes while k see the fun, clackers are ridiculously funny because someone went

"what if we made a heavy ball that went clack to another heavy ball with a string!"

"Oh like as a instrument!?"

"Pish no! It's for kids to clack together and they're super heavy and you could beat someone to death with them!"

Okay now for the real part: these are Shakasha from Africa, originally a small gord with sand/rice/beans in it used for percussion. Probably as old as whatever culture it came from.

Clackers are 2 heavy resin balls together that clack cause kids like nose and things that go thwack!

2

u/Gren57 1d ago

Were you maybe thinking of shekere? Regardless, someone figured out how to turn a shaker into a money-maker.

1

u/momomomorgatron 1d ago

... I just remembered there are small clackers for the hand that probably make a sound like those oval magnets when they click. The kind I know are jaw breaker size monstrosities that David would have been happy to have to kill Goliath with
