I had to scroll to the good part, the beginning is too painful. Thank you for your empathy and kindness

If he could he'd probably do your taxes to thank you

Looks just like our baby, she passed earlier this year but gave us 12 years of love. When she jumped on me when we were at the shelter it was love at first sight.

Planning to meet a shelter dog tomorrow. It would be my first dog. Wonder how it will go. She's 5 years old and has that look in het eyes.

I’ve only ever had strays/rescues. My first dog (as an adult) was 5 years old when we got him, we had him for 10 years. Shelter dogs are awesome.

How do you know you have to take the dog home? Did you have a 'click', did you look at him/her directly when meeting?

After meeting the dog you get a feel for their personality. They usually have a little yard to let the dog loose in so you can interact. You can pet them and play with them.

The staff might have a few different dogs you can meet, it depends on how they are set up and how many dogs they have that meet your general criteria. Don’t feel like you have to adopt the first dog you meet if you don’t mesh. It could take more than one visit to find the right dog for you.

As we're older my wife says she was our last but after we move this summer, I think I can talk her into an older dog. They need a home too.

Good luck and give her a hug from us.

Just let them be and don’t initiate anything with them. Let them come to you and get comfy in your home.

Look up the 3-3-3 rule with getting a new pup.

Congrats and good on you!

the first part was heartbreaking. Almost felt like he thought he was going to be put down and was desperately trying to submit.

u/Emkay1411 2d ago

Thank you for loving them!

This warmed my old ice cold heart. ❤️

I’ve never seen a dog submit in quite that way. Someone has beat the hell out of that poor honey.

Sweet baby. Those eyes in the beginning 💔

Wish every domesticated animal had a loving home with a caring, attentive family

Omg what a cute baby! I’m so glad you gave them a loving home! Also we have the same squirtle plush and my dog will bite it when she’s mad at me, bc she knows it’s not hers.

I know there is a lot of pitbull hate, but I love mine and she's my favorite

Adopt don’t shop!!!! There are so many perfectly wonderful, friendly, healthy dogs getting euthanized everyday at the shelters! Especially in Texas and California!

Live your best life puppers, live it to the fullest and never look back!

1

u/shelbyrobinson 1d ago

Thank you for doing this! We also have pets and it's heartbreaking, still, to see this pup with tail tucked, cowering in his cell begging for some love and kindness. I have 4 pets but still have an image of a little dog we saw at a shelter, staring through the bars so confused and lost.

The Netherlands Became the First Country Without Stray Dogs November 20, 2019.

The power of love!!

-2

u/Daniel_USAAF 2d ago

Happy for the family and the doggo. They all deserve this.

But… PLEASE never offer an open hand to a dog you don’t know. It’s how you lose fingers. Let the dog smell your hand while making a fist. It’s much safer for you.

0

u/Curedbqcon 2d ago

Don’t even do that, I’m not sure why people do these things when meeting dogs.

You think the dog didn’t already smell you from a mile away?

Let them come to you
