Cute baby interaction aside, who just lets someone drop their glasses on the floor? Glasses are expensive as hell! This lady acting like she has universal healthcare or something.

Glasses aren't free in Canada. Mine are covered by my plan at work but it's only like $300 every two years or something

Glasses are not covered by universal health care in many places.

The only two places I’ve lived; South Africa and the UK both had free glasses so it was mainly from my personal experience. But I can’t imagine there’d be many countries with universal healthcare that wouldn’t follow the same especially in western Europe, Oceania and Asia. Which countries are you referring to?

Germany. To qualify for proper glasses, you have to be almost blind. Otherwise coverage is good

So children from poor families don’t get glasses in Germany? School kids that can’t see the board don’t have any provisions from the goverment to be able to see?

If you are poor things Change. But with an average income you get very basic support from the health insurance.

That’s pretty much universal healthcare. It doesn’t mean everyone gets everything for free. Obviously the more money you have, the less the government subsidises your healthcare so that it can benefit those with lower incomes. If a child with an average household income needs glasses is it going to put significant financial strain on the family either in the short, medium or long term? If not, your healthcare system is appropriately covering glasses in line with universal healthcare principles.

No universal health care means you pay in, you get treatment. Thats why the fees scale with income. Everyone gets the same.
Poor people are covered by a separate Mechanism that pays the health care expenses that aee not covered by the universal healthcare. That is the whole point. The healthcare system provides minimal support for glasses and cheap cariants of fillings as dental work.

Here’s the definition from the World Health Organisation.
“Universal health coverage (UHC) means that all people have access to the full range of quality health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship. It covers the full continuum of essential health services, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care.”

You are obviously not reading. The universal healthcare provider does not fully cover necessary prescriptions here. Poor people are subsidies additionally
