That was a totally inappropriate activity for her ability.

You just described most CrossFit gyms

My buddy is a hand/wrist occupational therapist and he and all the other PTs they work with joke about how much they LOVE crossfit. Keeps them getting steady work. 😂

I have an orthopedic surgeon client who said the same thing about CrossFit.

Wife is a rheumathologist. She also loves crossfit

I know a girl that got Rhabdomyolysis. She used to love crossfit.

u/diescheide 5h ago
Pukie the Clown and Uncle Rhabdo being their mascots. CrossFit will straight up kill you.

u/ScrollHectic 8h ago
Yup! I did CrossFit for about a year until I injured my wrist and back. Loved the classes and camaraderie but those workouts are not for everyone

She cleared it but the box was too light for her at the time. Pretty impressive she could clear it.

This. At her weight and fitness level she shouldn't be jumping or running. That's just asking for an injury (which she got).
She should be going slow until she can build strength and drop weight. Slow progression prevents injury and gives the best results.

I was thinking the same thing. It's admirable to try to get in shape, but I personally think Crossfit is a terrible activity for nearly everyone just for the reason in this video. It's so easy to get badly injured, especially when you are out of shape and a beginner to start with.

I was just about to say. Must have been another brilliant idea by a "qualified" crossfit coach 🤣

u/hettuklaeddi 8h ago
i have a 30lb cat. you ought to hear him jump off the counter.
no idea why i thought of that

u/Crabby_Monkey 8h ago
Well the dismount was not pretty but by god she made the jump up fine. That was impressive as I don’t think I’d have been able to do that myself.

And I don’t know why any gym would still use those sharp edged wooden boxes instead of the rounded plastic ones.
They are so more stable and far less likely to cause an injury.

u/SixGunSnowWhite 7h ago
For real. My gym has little metal boxes. I use a shorter one and stack weight plates on it because at least they’re rounded. It’s a small gym and they don’t have room for the foam ones.
Box jumps are scary af to me. I’ve chickened out halfway and gotten gnarly bruises.

Crossfit is a fucking joke. Olympic lifting is extremely dangerous and many people have died from getting barbells dropped on their head or spine. Obviously olympic lifting risks are mitigated in a controlled environment with good coaches. But when you’re stuffing god knows how many people in a workout class doing this shit it’s just irresponsible

i was in a horrible motorcycle accident in 2015 at 40 years old.
my right leg came off below the knee, ankle turned to hamburger, and all of it to be rebuilt. it was so bad two orthos argued over amputating it.
if i remember correctly, it was one month in hospital, 3 months in bed, 2 months personal trainer, 3 years crossfit. it was a life saver for me.
i never saw anybody get hurt. i never saw cult behavior. i did see a lot of inspirational people. old ass women (and men) going for it at 5am. young people doing shit i could not believe. all body types. all different skill levels. no bad vibes ever.
after covid i moved and now i dont have time/place for it but i certainly cant say anything bad about it. i miss it.

u/Everyday-is-the-same 7h ago
Damn, but do you still ride? Glad you're alive.
5
u/nosnevenaes 7h ago
actually, no. i had to give up running as well. huge lifestyle changes. but no regrets. i loved riding and running so damn much but after my accident i was so grateful for just about everything that i never got bummed out about the changes. i'm lucky just to be here.

Hyperbole and just not true.
I understand your point but it is not rooted in truth.
If you provide a source I would be happy to rescind this comment.

Olympic lifting is very safe. It has one of the lowest injury rates in any competitive sport. Lower than something like running or even badminton. Crossfit has an injury rate which is similar.

This isn't amazing, it's sheer stupidity and very obvious outcome for sheer stupidity.

u/ozymandiez 5h ago
Dude I'm a heavy guy. But I know my limits. While her recovery is admirable, the situation she put herself in was insanely avoidable. I will not cheer someone on for being a dumb ass.

u/joe_ordan 8h ago
Props to her.
It’s easy to quit when you’re doing advanced workouts, prematurely, which prevents injury.
Respect ✊

u/Shohei_Ohtani_2024 5h ago
Jeez. That jump was very unnecessary. You are supposed to start off slow.
Looks like she woke up one day and decided she was going to do crossfire. Pace yourself

I thought she was gonna start a weight loss journey, turns out she's just a weightlifter 😂

And... That's why crossfit is fucking stupid. More injuries than in most other sports for not better results.
Big up to her tho, she could have given up easily...

I just don’t get why people with a body like that have to torture our eyes with wearing clothes like that towards the end.

Proud of this girl. One of my closest friends is also a pretty big dude, but he has been putting in work in the gym as of recent. Also respecting those who are trying to live a healthier life.
