States can, and have set up separate trade agreements with foreign nations. California's number one industry is agriculture, not movie making. The pushed the whole nation into emission standards in the 70's by creating their own the auto industry had to adopt for all because of their sheer size and population of vehicles. Their closer adjacency and shipping ports relative to the Pacific rim nations give them a transportation advantage and tariff collection ports. The tenth Amendment allows states to make their own laws, provided they are Constitutional. California as a state alone is the 7th richest nation in the world. Go Newsome! Defy Trump and plead the 10th Amendment!

As well, Trump's legislation by Executive Orders is already being challenged as unconstitutional.

I am just waiting to see CA. Importing the new electric cars from Mexico. They are beautiful and I bet pretty good. The pictures of the car are really amazing. The company brand is called Olinia. They are saying bye-bye to Tesla. The cars are made 100% in Mexico.

The EU is also cautiously opening talks with China, It's a fine line to walk and Europe has traditionally shunned any such trade discussions with China, but in the wake of the tariffs, the E.U. is looking at all options.

The U.S., once a leader of the free world, is becoming a pariah.

📰Spurned by Trump, Europe and China weigh closer economic ties

California, as usual at the head of everyone else. That State is the leader in this country now, perhaps others will follow

I read the article. He can’t get around the tariffs but he can make special deals with countries giving them discounts based on the high tariffs. Not sure this makes sense. Maybe he should concentrate on homelessness and high home prices and crime in his state as the article suggests. Wine, almonds and Avocados are some of the exports in jeopardy.

With due respect, Marc, I worked all of those programs for many years. In Ca. There are laws that provide the homeless (single men or women, not families) with three months of welfare and SNAP programs.
The problem lies that there is an influx of people living in their own States to take advantage every year to have those programs. Perhaps you're homeless in Montana, escape the winter, and go to CA. for some sun
During the summer months, there is also an influx of families from the southern States that go to California and apply for welfare to take advantage of the amount of money that they get per family. not realizing that the cost of living in CA is too high for them

Ca. with all the criticism that most other states have always done. It is still the 5th largest economy in the world. bigger than India (GDP). So, no matter how many problems they have, they must have done something right.

I still hope that they secede. And perhaps the time is right at this time. can always go back. All my bank accounts are still in CA, and so are our properties..
It would be a pleasure for me to go back.
