Boomer Story Parents went full MAGA and I don’t know what to do
I was home this weekend and all of a sudden my mom is going on these rants about how I’ve fallen for liberal propaganda and that Kamala had no polices, wasn’t elected as a candidate, etc. she told me I’m a one issue voter and need to look at both sides as if I don’t have a masters in Political Science and have spent the majority of my life studying politics and foreign policy. Dad told me he’s glad fluoride is being removed because it’s poison…
I feel like I lost them. They’ve become so intolerant to my husband and myself, and my husband is furious after my mother said that she’s happy at least one son in law likes Trump and has insulted him more than once and said I turned into a ‘dirty liberal’ because of him.
It’s like someone cloned my parents and made them so bigoted and intolerant and home isn’t home for me anymore.
They’re making it so hard to go home when they make it so hostile.
Edit: since it’s not clear, I haven’t lived with my parents in years. My husband and I live in another part of the country and I was back with them for the weekend visiting. We both have full time jobs and don’t rely on my parents for anything, we just go back for holidays and visits.
Edit 2: my masters is from a military college, and I studied Russia and Russian politics for the entirety of my career in higher education. I don’t know why I need to defend this.
Edit 3: this did happen this past weekend as I went home for a visit. I don’t know why I’m being accused of rage baiting or karma farming, I just needed to vent because my circle is becoming so small and wanted to hear from others. I wish this didn’t happen, I would be emotionally better off if it didn’t, but it did and now I’m trying to find sense and community with those who also went through this.
I’m reading every comment that comes in, thank you to those who are sympathetic.

Boomer Story My mom thinks Trump is going to pay off mortgages and credit cards. Anyone have any idea where she came up with this?
My sister was at my mom’s a couple days ago and they told her Trump has a plan or organization that is agreeing to do these things for Americans. I’m stunned and wish my sister would have asked some serious questions instead of blowing it off. I can’t figure out where she got this idea at all.
ETA: Yes, she is nuts, and has been forever, but MAGA stuff spun her out completely. Some comments helped direct me to a conspiracy known as NESARA/GESARA, which seems like the most likely explanation.

Boomer Story The reasons why Trump won
The majority of voters are transphobic.
The majority of voters believe erasing undocumented citizens will improve their lives AND, yes, they are racist and hate them too.
The only thing the majority of American voters hate more than a rapist and racist, is a woman, and a person of color.
The core reason Trump won; Hate and poorly educated people.

Boomer Story Boomer mother whined to my kids because of their Trump comments.
Last night we went trick or treating (as one does) in my mom’s neighborhood - she lives in the middle of a town, so candy is usually plentiful and my kids like the walk. My kids are young (10 and 6). They don’t understand politics, but my ex-wife and I are staunchly anti-Trump and we don’t hide the realities of his atrocities from our kids. Especially because there are kids friends with my oldest that are clearly LGBTQ+ of some variety, so we teach acceptance and how to stand up to bullies.
A little backstory, my mother is absolutely not smart. I love her dearly, but she has no critical thinking skills whatsoever. All throughout school, I could never ask for homework help past ~6th grade because she had absolutely no idea. She’s financially illiterate, a bigot (product of her upbringing), and has never been political as far as I can remember. She never got into politics until Trump because he gave her permission, so to speak, to be bigoted out loud. It’s disgusting.
Anyway, we live in a swing state so political signs are EVERYWHERE. As we were walking down one street my kids approached a house that had 16 Trump signs, a MAGA flag, marine flag, and a “Let’s Go Brandon” flag in front of the house with spotlights on each. As we got close my older kids said “ew, Trump” and skipped the house. The guy outside (in his MAGA hat) scoffed and looked pissed. My mother goes belligerent and screams “TO EACH THEIR OWN, CHILDREN! THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR!” I told her to knock it off, and her response was to scream “EASY ON THE TRUMP COMMENTS OR MIMI’S GOING HOME!” I told her that “to each their own” extends to her grandchildren and she needs to calm down or leave.
She walked home. Her loss 🤷🏻♂️.

Boomer Story My boomer mother just told me that a full time nanny should cost no more than $1200/month... I don't even know where to begin.
My wife and I have a 9 month old son who's been in daycare for 7 months which has lead to constant illnesses over the winter months. When I mentioned the astronomical price that we pay for daycare to my boomer mother she suggested we get a nanny... Which I tried, so so hard, to explain how that would be more expensive. Much more expensive. We currently pay $2850/month in daycare. A full time nanny would cost closer to $5k. Boomer couldn't comprehend either. Like literally had a melt down over the entire concept. I know I'm not the only who's gone through this. Talk to me folks, how do I reasonably respond?

Boomer Story Got one today! Mask refuser.
Had to go to a Doc in a box today, injured my shoulder. 70ish year old man comes in right after me and checks in with "all of the flu symptoms".
Receptionist tries to hand him a mask, he asks "is it required?" Receptionist says no but that it would keep their staff safe. Boomer says "You're all idiots, masks don't do shit. I'm not wearing that thing, just get me to the doctor."
Receptionist backs up and checks him in. I stand up, walk to the counter and say "May I have a mask please? I'm not sick, but I'd rather not catch this man's flu because he's too inconsiderate to try to be kind to others."
I was hoping for a response, obviously, but I got more than I ever hoped for. He looks over at me and says "Why don't you mind your own fucking business and sit down before I sit you down?"
I could have threatened back, or caused a bigger scene. I wanted to, but it wouldn't have been fair to the staff. I locked eyes with him, laughed, and popped my mask on. I stood there eye locked with him until he sat down to do his paperwork.
Since I had kids I've actively decided to stop letting people abuse others while I sit and watch. It's made life more interesting, but I don't want my kids to think it's ok to let others be mistreated.

Boomer Story Went ham just now and irrevocably ended contact
So I’m now 40, hes 67. My dad and I have had animosity for years— since Trump took office in 2016. Even still when I was growing up, he was avoidant, but at least to some extent was curious about the world. But never had a close relationship that’s for sure.
These last few weeks, hearing him repeat bullshit Fox News talking points was the final straw. So how’d I do?

Boomer Story Boomers tried to force me to give up my seat on a flight then the husband wouldn’t let my daughter into the aisle
Over the summer, my daughter (12F) and I took a trip to Florida. For the flights, I paid extra to select seats so I could sit with my daughter. I also paid for extra legroom. On the flight back, a boomer woman claimed I was in her seat, which was next to her husband. I was sitting in the middle, my daughter was sitting at the window seat and her husband was at in the aisle seat. Anyway, I pulled up my boarding pass and showed her that this was my seat. She said her boarding pass also showed my seat, but wouldn't pull it out.
I assumed the airline must've double booked the seat, so I called over a flight attendant. I explained that this woman says I'm in her seat and that she says her boarding pass says my seat. I showed him my boarding pass. He asked to see hers. Her husband handed it to her. It showed a seat in the back of the plane. He said that she's supposed to sit in that seat, not mine, and if she wants my seat, she can ask me, but if I say no, she has to take her seat. She asked me, I said no, since I wanted to sit with my child, and I paid extra for this seat.
Her and her husband started shouting at me. Her husband called me a fucking entitled bitch. She said she'd sue me if I didn't give up the seat. I laughed and told her to get out of my face. She called me an entitled childless cat lady (I had my cat with me in a cat backpack under my seat). I said that while I am a cat lady, I have a child and pointed to my daughter.
The flight attendant sternly told her to go to her seat or he'd get security. She angrily walked to her seat while flipping me off.
During the flight, my daughter had to use the restroom so she asked me to ask the boomer husband if he could get up so she could walk through (even with the extra legroom it was still too tight to walk through). He refused and called me a fucking cunt. I had to call over a flight attendant who made him get up, so she could get out of her seat.
Boomers are such entitled idiots.

Boomer Story Update: Finally ripped off the bandaid
I posted awhile ago about cutting out my grandparents over their vote this election. The decision still remains an excellent one, but after my grandma tried to reach out to my bf, I decided I needed to make it a little more clear exactly why I’m not interested in a relationship with them right now.

Boomer Story When you lose your SS, don’t come living with us
My mom voted for trump because she’s earned her SS benefit (she’s been retired since she’s 50 by marrying smart) and didn’t care about my pre-existing condition that will now be denied. She told my sister she deserved to get cancer for having an abortion over 10 years ago
When boomers lose their Medicare, SS and other benefits, don’t come back to us snowflakes. We’re not snowflakes. We just can read and knew what was in the table. You voted against your daughters because “it’s your turn.” . You voted against yourselves. You deserve this. Also, you were 80 and 90s parents who are famous for not parenting their kids at all. Way to ruin our adulthood too and expect us to take care of you
UPDATE: I’ve been responding to the same normal “go tos” so here goes.
- Of course not all Boomers. I meant those who voted for Trump. I thought that was implied but it’ll highlight that. I’m not even including those who truly were confused with misinformation and AI. I’m talking about the supporters who knew and proudly voted because “they’ll get there’s.”
-I’ve known since 3rd grade that SS will run out by the time in 65. That’s fine. I know how important it is and I don’t mind contributing even though I won’t see it
I was merely using my example to point out that my sister and I were told to suck it up when we had extremely challenging and life threatening medical issues that we both struggled financially through. These policies may impact us again if preexisting conditions are not covered. So, if you are a boomer who voted Trump in, I will have the same advice. Suck it up. You voted for it. It did go in a different direction and I was just answering them.
I’m an Independent. I’m not a liberal hiding as Unaffiliated. I’m truly a person who looks at platform. I like ideas from both parties. I don’t think Biden was perfect. I have complaints about that administration also.
-my dad, my sister and I have a great relationship as well as my stepfamily. It was honestly supposed to just be an example and people thought I was crying about it. No. It’s an example. Probably a messed up one— but that’s my life. Ok?
I’m aware it was other generations as well. Particularly, genz males. SS and Medicare will impact Boomers first which is why I didn’t specify. No I don’t think it was only them who voted.
I think most of us are in the middle and lean one way or the other but we’ve been treating each other like extreme left and right. Can we all just chill out and ask questions before assuming everyone is extreme?
Update 2- I have not lived at home since I was 18. I paid for college on my own. I make over 6 figures and growing. My dad had to move in with me to get his life situated and I helped him get a job, never took a dime from him and introduced him to his next wife. You may live in my basement. I don’t live in yours

Boomer Story Boomer yelled at me from a block away because of my yard sign.
So yesterday I was coming home from work and I turned onto my street I noticed a man walking a very cute dog and it made me smile. I kept driving the short distance to my house, pulled into the driveway, got out and walked up to my door. I was about to unlock my door when I hear “FUCK YOU YOU LIBERAL PIECE OF SHIT! TRUMP 2024!” It was said walker of cute dog, yelling at be from a block away.
“You mad bro?” Me “FUCKING BABY KILLER!” Boomer “You have a lovely rest of your day, sir”
You can disagree with my politics, that’s fine. But man what happened to civil political discourse (rhetorical question, I know what happened).
Then this morning I had a lady in her 30’s walking her dogs tell me she loved my sign.
Later in the morning, two old ladies were standing in front of my house discussing the sign and trying to figure out what it means.
I am absolutely loving this troll. I hope you all can appreciate it for the joke it is.

Boomer Story Boomer loses his mind because we can’t test his dog for “gayness.”
I’m a vet tech, and this story happened a few years back…but it definitely belongs here.
So I’m in the front lobby at my animal hospital helping my staff scan some anesthesia monitoring charts, and this boomer comes in with a sweet but hyper Australian Cattle Dog. Initial glance-over tells me this guy is pissed af and looking for a fight.
“I NEED TO SEE A VET”
We take walk-ins as we are able, so one of our receptionists asks what is going on with the dog.
“I THINK SHE’S GAY AND I NEED A TEST DONE”
Our lobby goes dead silent with both staff and clients alike looking at each other like, “what is going on right now.” I usher the boomer into an exam room, as his indoor voice was nonexistent and I could already tell that this shit was gonna go downhill quickly. I walk back to our treatment area to alert the rest of the staff to what was going on, and my doctors literally draw straws to see who was going to have to deal with this fool.
The losing DVM and myself walk into the exam room, and the boomer is upon us immediately. He’s losing his shit because he took his female dog to the dog park, and she “humped” another female dog that she was playing with. He told us that this dog was purebred and that he was going to sue the breeder if she ended up being gay, so he needed us to “test for gayness.” My DVM takes a deep breath and explains that female dogs can exhibit this type of behavior with other females…or even males, toys, furniture, etc. It did not signify any sort of “gayness,” and was in no way harmful. She also told the boomer that there was wasn’t really a medical test we could run for “gayness.”
The boomer turns a lovely shade of eggplant and starts yelling at the both of us about how we were part of the “liberal agenda” and that he “knew his rights” and demanded a referral to a specialist that could run the test he was asking for. I even went back to treatment to grab our lab test book so he could see all the tests we had the capability to run…and to show him that what he was asking for simply did not exist. This was also insufficient. My DVM offered a physical exam with/without a basic blood panel just to make sure the dog didn’t have any, ya know…actual problems. Boomer declines all these things and asks to speak to a male DVM. We’re fully fed up with his shit, but go grab a male veterinarian to quickly come and tell this idiot the same thing we did. The male doctor was, naturally, also accused of being part of the liberal agenda. By this time, our practice manager has gotten wind of the fuckery afoot, and steps into the exam room to ask the boomer to leave. He waddles back out into the lobby, screeching that he’s not paying a dime and will sue us if we charge him. Practice manager tells him that we hadn’t been allowed to even touch his dog, so we had nothing to charge him for. As he walks out the door, he tells a few longtime regulars in the lobby that we’re gonna “kill” their pets and they “should leave now.” One of the ladies audibly laughed at him, which was amazing.
Thankfully never heard anything from that clown again. Never witnessed anything so ridiculous in my 20+ years in medicine.

Boomer Story Boomer ranting about all those people getting money from the government gets a lesson.
Was hanging around a boomer relative and of course they have the election on. They have lots of opinions on how to improve things and blame young people for today's problems despite me pointing out on multiple occasions those politicians look a lot closer to his age than mine.
At one point they finally got to the real problem which was overspending. I agreed with him because I knew exactly where he was going with it but I already had the data pulled up on my phone. They said the government was spending too much money on "lazy people" and that's all I needed to go in for the lesson.
"12% of federal spending goes to Medicare for people aged 65 or older. You have medicare right? 21% goes to social security, you have social security too. 3% goes to people aged 65 or older receiving veteran benefits. And 10% goes to paying interest on overspending for all these things."
"You're right." I said, "46% of the federal budget is going to lazy fuckers sitting on the couch spouting useless opinions on the ongoing election."
You guys, never have I seen a Boomer scream that loud. They threw me out of the house and now I'm getting texts saying Thanksgiving is probably cancelled. (I'm not worried I'll invite all the family I care about to my place regardless.)
They have no idea how anything works.

Boomer Story Worn to a High School event
Saw this at my kid’s High School event. Seems super appropriate for the venue. From the back I was initially expecting an angry militant looking middle aged white guy dad. Turns out he was some kid’s old Boomer grandpa. And half his face drooped from either a stroke or Bell’s Palsy. With all that going on, you’d figure he’s got enough to worry about, he doesn’t need to be such an angry douche. He thinks it pisses people off, but we just laugh at how fragile his ego is.

Boomer Story Trump veteran
I am a veteran in my 70's, I was at the V.A. and I saw a man, in my age group, with a trump hat on. I asked how he could support trump. I didn't call trump a goddamn drafting dodging coward. He yelled Clinton was a draft dodger, I said Clinton had a student deferment and his number didn't get called, that's the way I remember it. I said unlike Princess Bone Splinters. I was not trying to be an asshole, I just can't see how any veteran can support trump.V.A. police came down the hall and I left. The man cussed me across the parking lot.

Boomer Story Boomer gave my son with celiac food with wheat on purpose.
9 year old son went to a sleepover. Because he is celiac I purposefully pack snacks/ breakfast for him. His friend lives with his parents and granddad and as soon as the granddad hears about the allergy he starts going on about how these allergies didn't exist when he was a kid bla bla bla.
I show up the next morning and my son is throwing up and green. The Mom apologicetically tells me that the Granddad purposefully switched the breakfast to one with wheat. I am normally mild tempered but I did yell at him and he can't let go that I use an F bomb. Anyways, the Mom apologizes a few more times and I spend the rest of the day nursing my son back to health.
Update - I spoke to the Mom and she agreed I should press charges (we are pretty good friends). I feel she's pretty sick of his bs too and this was a last straw for her as well.
