General Discussion Different Ball canning books?
Is there a list somewhere of the different versions of Ball canning books? I have one book and one magazine but would like the others so I have other recipes to choose from.
Also wouldn’t mind other brands of books for safety tested recipes.

I don't know that there is a list.
On Amazon there are:
The All New Ball Book Of Canning And Preserving: Over 350 of the Best Canned, Jammed, Pickled, and Preserved Recipes
Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving
and
Ball Canning Back to Basics: A Foolproof Guide to Canning Jams, Jellies, Pickles, and More
Then there is:
Ball® Blue Book Guide to Preserving 38th Edition, Recipe Book
which is not available on Amazon, but can be found at most Ball dealers, including Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, and several other hardware and home supply stores.
ETA: There is also "So Easy to Preserve" which is published by the University of Georgia Extension, which also happens to be the home of the National Center for Home Food Preservation.

How much overlap is there in the Ball books?
Which one has the most/interesting pressure canning recipes?

They do overlap somewhat. The All New book probably has the most unique/ interesting recipes especially for meal in a jar type things, but my personal favorite is the Ball Complete book.

With apologies to AC/DC … 🤣
“I’m just itching to tell you about them.”
Ball’s got a lot of books. The largest and most complete is the “Blue” book. The most recent version is 38. This is the best of the Balls.
If you have Ball 37 and would like to know what is different, this is a good guide.
For the other Ball Books, there are some interesting recipes but nothing.. groundbreaking? I have them and they’re pretty okay. Mostly waterbath. They were gifts.
The Canning version of LaRousse Gastronomique, however, is the USDA guide. The pdf if available for free online. It is linked on our wiki page.
The only place you can get a printed copy of the USDA guide is from Purdue. Any other place selling a physical copy is a scam and is printing an outdated/scam copy.

Thanks! I’m going now to go check that out. This is extremely helpful. I do have #37 of the Ball book and was wondering if there were a newer version.

Can you tell me how to access the wiki page? Is there a link? I’m on my phone, should I use the computer instead?

The mods of r/Canning appreciate the work that goes into producing videos demonstrating canning recipes and techniques, however as the mods of r/Canning attempt to classify the safety of methods and recipes posted here, watching and verifying every video that comes along is overly onerous. We often get reports that videoes contain unsafe canning practices, but it can be difficult for the mod team to sit and watch each video to verify whether or not the report is warranted, and to determine how to flair the post.
As such, posting video tutorials/recipes from unknown/untrusted sources is currently disallowed. We thank-you for your understanding.
