Engine Performance Is the diesel better than the gas?
i saw this granvia and noticed it was the diesel model. now i never had even hear of this model till today and i looked it up and it comes with 3 other gas powered options and wondered (especially where i live) why go with the diesel option when gas is one? is it something with the van itself?

I don't think your supposed to drink that. Stay away from laundry detergent specifically tide pods

Diesel has been more popular and common in Europe, the UK, and some other markets because they use very little fuel, and there used to be tax incentives that made it a good choice.
The diesel emissions cheating scandal put a stop to the tax advantages

In the EU there is still a small tax advantage on diesel. Hungary has 158 HUF/L on gas and 148 HUF/L on diesel. Also diesel fuel has more energy per liter, so the gap is effectively even larger.

For going fast? No. For daily driving? Absolutely.

Surely it depends on the type of driving? Short journeys or mostly start-stop is no, longer journeys or more motorway-y drives is yes

Having owned a 2001 VW 1.9L diesel, diesel is way better. Tons of torque and way less fuel consumption.

Diesel is a lot better. Until something goes wrong with a modern emissions system. My god the repair costs.
If you want low operating costs, buy an electric.
I bought my old diesel bus RV because it was a 2002 and predated DPF and particulate traps. My old 1500psi fuel system will never die. Now they are 15,000 psi and rip themselves apart.
2007-2008 was the cutoff for modern emissions on diesels in North America. That year varies by country.

For what it looks like Granvia is used in Japan for a model that is calld HiClass elsewhere. A slightly fancier version of the HiAce.

Diesel engine last longer , but I guess it depends on what you want out of your vehicle

Reminds of the Toyota Camry that’s diesel, scares me to this day in a good way

are you driving 100's of miles/kilometers a day? the diesel. stop and go traffic. gas

A quick google says it got the same 3.4 gas V6 that the 4Runner had. That would probably be the best version to import to the US.
Likewise, the 3.0 diesel came in turbo and non-turbo version, I’d wager you’d probably want the turbo- but again that’s an engine that, unless they put it in a hino truck, you will have trouble finding parts for in the US.

if you want to go fast no . if you want to daily drive it or possibly ever pull somthing then yes

My cousin gets his diesel from Chinese restaurants refines it himself drives around a diesel Volkswagen everywhere been wanting to copy his setup for a while so anyways in the based way of potentialy free fuel if you can find it yes yes it is.

It's probably not relevant for USA or Europe, but in cold climate diesel sucks. Starts very roughly, the engine can heat up very slowly, so the saloon heater also doesn't warm you up quickly.
Also if you put "bad" diesel in, it can total your engine. Again, not a problem in places where you don't have knock-off fuel in places

Deisel engines generally have more torque than engines. And much better fuel economy.

Well it's a Toyota. So you get boring or boring.

It’s a minivan…they’re about as exciting as you make it.

Also all the "fun" Toyotas nowadays, motors are made by other company's. Lexus lfa was cool. Everyone seems to love the 2j. But that's all in the past. Subarus are slow with our alot of mods and BMW hasnt really done anything that cool since the e46m3.

No. It’s loud and smells nasty. And I’m tired of people sitting all day with their diesels idling because they’re too lazy to shut off the engine.

i drive a 1st gen dodge with a 5.9 cummins deisel and it rolls coal what you think of that ?

u/KBishopAudio Jan 30 '25
That’s not something to be proud of. Sounds like you can’t even afford new tires for that thing.
1
u/No_Needleworker_9921 Jan 30 '25
it has brand new tires actually. clearly your just wanting to hate .and ill make sure to blow black smoke all over you if i ever see you on the road

I seems like you’ve never been suffocated in underground parking lots by bored husbands that prefer to idle for 45 minutes while waiting for their wives instead of going out for some air. Or have you been in a situation where all those fumes get all way up to your kid’s window? I have plenty of other examples, so don’t get me wrong if I don’t like diesels unless they’re shipping trucks of farming equipment.

Then just move your car or roll up the window sounds like you are creating your own problem and besides a lot of people do that were I live because it's usually around 100 f here so yea people like there a/c .get over it

It makes it more unique, the extra torque from a diesel makes the smaller engine bearable, and you aren't using a lot of fuel so paying a hut more for diesel is fine.
