Tire question Would you keep driving on this?
If I have to replace it, I will need to replace all 4 tires.

I’ve done worse and still drive on them. General rule of them: no cords, then send it.

I would drive on it but I would never recommend somebody else do so.

This is a good point. I wouldn’t want to give bad advice because if OPs shit gets fucked up that kind of in me if my shit gets fucked up… oh well.

Uhhhh… that’s a decent chunk of sidewall on a low profile tyre, comp the loss you’ll be more upset if you experience a high speed blowout and buckle the rim.

If that’s all that happens, blowouts over 30MPH and there’s gonna be more damage than just the rims 🥴

Yes, looks like no cords are visible

This. That thick section of sidewall is a "rimguard" designed to protect your rims from curb rash. It's not structural. If no cords or fabric is visible it should still be safe to drive on.

Finally someone who knows what they are on about had to scroll too far down to find this comment

No belting or cord material exposed so its legal. Run it. But maybe drive with a brain cell and understand that real life isn't a video game, there is no reloading. That means obeying speed limits and not cornering like you are playing gta.

Rim looks pretty iffy to me. That a crack coming out of that ding?
If no crack, I'd say you're good for a short, short while. If that's a crack and you hit a pothole or you corner too hard or rough on that tires side, it could fracture worse.

Not a load bearing part of the tire and that part of the rim is designed to be dinged up. Drive it.
I would not recommend driving like 120 whipping through traffic, but you’ll be fine.

That a highland model 3 performance?
Personally I'd most likely still drive on it, keep an eye on it occasionally, and look into a completely different set of tires when you're ready. There are usually quite a few used takeoff sets of those tires on places like FB Marketplace, you might be able to find a single or a pair with similar wear to yours.
If that is an M3P, I swapped mine for Falken FK460 all seasons for under half the price of the PZeros after destroying one in the first 500 miles. I find the P Zeros weak and way overpriced.

My tire was like that and I finally got to use that discount tire replacement certificate. Of course the make you buy another one but it’s $45.

A shock that big won’t it hamper the axle or tie rods when it hit the corners or the car will still be okay??

I know in some countries you can use two different tires but they have to be the same model right and left but the front and rear can be different.
That's because some OEM cars use two tires sizes to this got legalized for any cars.

Ya sure! It’s low profile tire so those sidewalls are like 3 inches thick! I’d drive it , but order new tires too!

Omg there’s no cords showing it’s not damaged the bead just get on with your day and forget about it and stop hitting curbs

I would. But I'm still a hack. I'd probably try to keep it on the rear though.

u/Straightupaguy 19h ago
Sidewall damage I would NOT risk it. The sidewall is the majority of your tire's structural integrity

No i wouldn't. Also you can in fact replace just 1 tire. Tire shops often keep used tires in stock that will be at least a close match to the tread of your remaining tires for pretty cheap.

Me personally yes. But I would never recommend someone else do it. But none of the cords are showing. Do with that what you will.

I would get some kind of rubber repair glop and patch it. Maybe Shoe Gue or similar. You want to keep any water from rusting the bead band, plus that is a big enough chunk to change the balance.

u/Morscerta9116 12h ago
You certainly can, but you've definitely taken out the safe chunk, so might not get so lucky the next time. I'd replace it sooner or later

With my bank account yes. I’d keep it under 60 and think about the oh shit handle on a sharp corner I could buy a single tire and and do it myself but F that it’s a huge pain if the ether doesn’t work

u/Max_Downforce 1d ago
No cords are showing. I'd daily drive it on the street. Keep a close eye on it tho. If the carcass is compromised, it may show up later on.

I live less than a mile from the tire shop, I'd be looking and feeling it really closely before driving it directly to the tire shop
Mount the spare and replace the tire

I would say no and get it replaced.
On the other hand, my wallet says to avoid potholes, and avoid speeding

Yeah I’d drive it to a place that sells tires. Commute to work and back? No chance

Check eBay for a partially worn used tire of the exact same make model and size. I've done this a few times because my Subaru kept catching flat tires.
