Tire question Would you keep driving on this?

If I have to replace it, I will need to replace all 4 tires.

Check eBay for a partially worn used tire of the exact same make model and size. I've done this a few times because my Subaru kept catching flat tires.

I’ve done worse and still drive on them. General rule of them: no cords, then send it.

I would drive on it but I would never recommend somebody else do so.

This is a good point. I wouldn’t want to give bad advice because if OPs shit gets fucked up that kind of in me if my shit gets fucked up… oh well.

I feel the same way.

Uhhhh… that’s a decent chunk of sidewall on a low profile tyre, comp the loss you’ll be more upset if you experience a high speed blowout and buckle the rim.

u/Substantial_Disk1706 1d ago

If that’s all that happens, blowouts over 30MPH and there’s gonna be more damage than just the rims 🥴

Yes, looks like no cords are visible

This. That thick section of sidewall is a "rimguard" designed to protect your rims from curb rash. It's not structural. If no cords or fabric is visible it should still be safe to drive on.

Finally someone who knows what they are on about had to scroll too far down to find this comment

Definitely wouldn’t drive any faster than you want to experience a blow out at.

I would

u/pibubs81 1d ago

Yes i would.

u/real_1273 1d ago

I would yes. I’d watch it but continue if nothing got worse.

u/Andrewme1991 1d ago

Drive on it to a tire shop maybe, but that’s it

5

u/Crash_Burn_Death 1d ago

Keep on rolling. Sidewall is thick and not showing chords.

u/JokerGenetics2121 1d ago

Yea

9

u/KimchiCannon 1d ago

Should I trust someone with joker genetics?

u/Jarofkickass 19h ago

Tyre tech here it’s fine no chords are showing it’s just cosmetic

u/spyder7723 1d ago

No belting or cord material exposed so its legal. Run it. But maybe drive with a brain cell and understand that real life isn't a video game, there is no reloading. That means obeying speed limits and not cornering like you are playing gta.

2

u/deridex120 1d ago

Yup. I think i would

Looks like rimguard i wouldnt worry about it

u/Dizbizney 1d ago

Rim looks pretty iffy to me. That a crack coming out of that ding?

If no crack, I'd say you're good for a short, short while. If that's a crack and you hit a pothole or you corner too hard or rough on that tires side, it could fracture worse.

u/bobbygamerdckhd 1d ago

Good time to make sure your spare is good

1

u/pieindaface 1d ago

Not a load bearing part of the tire and that part of the rim is designed to be dinged up. Drive it.

I would not recommend driving like 120 whipping through traffic, but you’ll be fine.

That a highland model 3 performance?

Personally I'd most likely still drive on it, keep an eye on it occasionally, and look into a completely different set of tires when you're ready. There are usually quite a few used takeoff sets of those tires on places like FB Marketplace, you might be able to find a single or a pair with similar wear to yours.

If that is an M3P, I swapped mine for Falken FK460 all seasons for under half the price of the PZeros after destroying one in the first 500 miles. I find the P Zeros weak and way overpriced.

My tire was like that and I finally got to use that discount tire replacement certificate. Of course the make you buy another one but it’s $45.

1

u/Conscious-Permit-466 1d ago

To the liquor store and back I would.

1

u/Mean_Consequence7518 1d ago

A shock that big won’t it hamper the axle or tie rods when it hit the corners or the car will still be okay??

1

u/SlinginChitlins4u 1d ago

Not drive on it or likely, that wheel. Wheel likely bent.

1

u/ghillieweed762 1d ago

Not if it was made in the year 9048 /s

1

u/Plaston_ 1d ago

I know in some countries you can use two different tires but they have to be the same model right and left but the front and rear can be different.

That's because some OEM cars use two tires sizes to this got legalized for any cars.

1

u/Rillist 1d ago

No bulge or cords? Youll get away with it, but I'd be replacing that sooner than later for my own piece of mind.

1

u/Makhnos_Tachanka 1d ago

yeah to quote santa claus, "yeah i don't care if i die at all, everything has sucked lately"

also it's fine

1

u/custermd 1d ago

No cash, no fixxy.

1

u/Josipbroz13 1d ago

Yes, rim protector part, nothing to do with driving part of tire

1

u/DieselBones_13 1d ago

Ya sure! It’s low profile tire so those sidewalls are like 3 inches thick! I’d drive it , but order new tires too!

1

u/Aggravating_Cap_4045 1d ago

Your all good

1

u/Blaze_The_God 1d ago

Yeah, im also too broke for new tires

1

u/Strange-Buy9564 23h ago

Omg there’s no cords showing it’s not damaged the bead just get on with your day and forget about it and stop hitting curbs

1

u/This-Organization437 23h ago

Like somebody about to climax “keep goin”

1

u/GraveDanger884 19h ago

I would. But I'm still a hack. I'd probably try to keep it on the rear though.

1

u/Straightupaguy 19h ago

Sidewall damage I would NOT risk it. The sidewall is the majority of your tire's structural integrity

1

u/L0quence 19h ago

I would yea

1

u/Michael_Threat 18h ago

No i wouldn't. Also you can in fact replace just 1 tire. Tire shops often keep used tires in stock that will be at least a close match to the tread of your remaining tires for pretty cheap.

1

u/jason-murawski 18h ago

It would probably be fine but I still wouldn't

1

u/Hour_Champion 17h ago

Of course. Because the release date of the tire can still be read.

1

u/Fragrant-Taro-8508 17h ago

Me personally yes. But I would never recommend someone else do it. But none of the cords are showing. Do with that what you will.

1

u/hamburgergerald 16h ago

Should I? Debatable. Would I? Yeah

1

u/BeginningRing9186 16h ago

Yes. Send it.

1

u/bobroberts1954 14h ago

I would get some kind of rubber repair glop and patch it. Maybe Shoe Gue or similar. You want to keep any water from rusting the bead band, plus that is a big enough chunk to change the balance.

1

u/Morscerta9116 12h ago

You certainly can, but you've definitely taken out the safe chunk, so might not get so lucky the next time. I'd replace it sooner or later

1

u/LtLoLz 11h ago

I'd like to point out that it's only a chunk of the rim protector. The tire is thicker here to protect the rim. It did it's best but you hit whatever it was too hard. Anyway might want to get it rebalanced.

1

u/Longjumping_Ad_47 10h ago

Jesus Christ 🤦🏾‍♂️

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bat3885 7h ago

If it’s not a bubble your good plus you don’t drive on that part

1

u/podgida 7h ago

Well, it's gonna shake the fillings out of your teath and lose air.

1

u/veryblanduser 5h ago

Wife's car..no My car...yes

1

u/PomegranatePro 2h ago

With my bank account yes. I’d keep it under 60 and think about the oh shit handle on a sharp corner I could buy a single tire and and do it myself but F that it’s a huge pain if the ether doesn’t work

1

u/Max_Downforce 1d ago

No cords are showing. I'd daily drive it on the street. Keep a close eye on it tho. If the carcass is compromised, it may show up later on.

1

u/UniversityOfPi 1d ago

I live less than a mile from the tire shop, I'd be looking and feeling it really closely before driving it directly to the tire shop

Mount the spare and replace the tire

1

u/Distinct_One_6919 1d ago

Yes, see, no cords, and it still holds air

0

u/Elitepikachu 1d ago

Fuck around and find out.

0

u/MrSirChris 1d ago

I would say no and get it replaced.

On the other hand, my wallet says to avoid potholes, and avoid speeding

0

u/ajaxbunny1986 1d ago

You’ll be fine but replace it as soon as you can.

0

u/Least_Ad3712 1d ago

Scoop some tire glue on there for emergencies only.

-1

u/KirbyTheCreator 1d ago

Just as far as the nearest tire store.

-1

u/Granadawalker 1d ago

Only if you have a death wish.

-1

u/VariousClaim3610 1d ago

If you are suicidal there are less painful ways to do it…

-2

u/Holeshot483 1d ago

Yeah I’d drive it to a place that sells tires. Commute to work and back? No chance
