Starting to identify as Cascadians rather than Americans?

What the title says. I saw a post similar years ago, and i think it more applies now. (I would hope for decentralization though, i don't think most of us want to be associated with America right now).

So, when traveling outside of the country, who's willing to say you're Cascadian? How do we feel about transitioning to use the Cascadia flag rather than state flags?

I'm willing to do it, but a movements never gonna happen if people continue to not do anything or not step up.

Transitioned to the Cascadia flag years ago. Has only attracted good conversations and people.

I've preferred to say I was Cascadian for some time. I would ultimately love to see the region in some form gain some level of autonomy if not complete independence. I love the Cascadian flag and haven't been pro America or its imagery for years at this point.

It’s gotta be one of the best flags out there. Perfect colours and who doesn’t love a Douglas Fir.

I love the way the layout represents a nature scene that you can actually see here: blue sky, white mountains, green forests. The colors are unique and aren't the over used red white and blue and the Doug is a great representer of the region. I remember liking it right away the first time I saw it before I knew what it was.

Cascadia and Alaska. There are no better flags.

I’m from the Lower Mainland, BC and I identify as Cascadian. I feel I have more in common with folk from BC, WA and OR than the rest of Canada.

Same!! Even as a teenager before I knew about this movement, when travelling elsewhere in Canada or internationally, I identified myself as being from the Pacific Northwest. When I learned about the history of Oregon Territory in my 20s, and the arbitrary insertion of the border, it all made so much sense. Canadians and Americans used to live together peacefully in this region- it was the national states that decided to divide it up for administrative reasons!

I identify as Alaskan usually, but since Sarah Palin, that's not the same cover it used to be.

I was visiting my brother in Texas a couple years back. I told his friends I was from Cascadia. They had no idea what I was talking about, but I think it might have been my thick Cascadian accent.

It’s on my backpack when I fly and I am proud to explain it to anyone if this they ask 💙🌲💚

Yep. I haven't really been proud to be American since I was a young teenager, but Cascadian as a label feels a lot comfier to me.

Yeah a little, which sucks because I like America, but I think things might just be fucked beyond fucked.

I identify as Oregonian but if Cascadia happens, I'll be thrilled to change my ways.

Without a Cascadia identity to point at, no I'm not telling people "I'm a Cascadian" first.

When people where arguing about the desirability of secession a bit ago, this same thing came up. What is your goal? A smaller democracy, communism, anarchism, a league of independent entities?

u/druzhelyubno Cascadian 2d ago

A smaller, real democracy. Or just decentralization, i’m not advocating for a civil war at all. At least not now.

At least not now or ever.  How would Cascadia win a war against the US?

I've been calling myself a Cascadian for twenty years already; I could not stomach any further association with a nation which was willing to voluntarily re-elect G. W. Bush - that mendacious fool! - after seeing clearly what he was made of. I have only ever flown the Doug flag since then.

I'm Canadian, I wouldn't go telling someone I'm Cascadian. If anything I would say I'm British Columbian.

Always have identified more as a Cascadian over being an American or Washingtonian, because to me Cascadia is my home, has been from the moment I was born. My family has been here for at least two generations before me, if not more and I have traveled all over the American side of the bioregion and once I get my passport I plan to make it all the bioregion, all the while I will proudly fly and wear the Doug.

Hard to say, in another post a Seattleite said that Cascadia only refers to Washington.
