I love the look on their face like "d'ya know what to do with one o'these? What do I do? Ahhhh it's coming towards me!"

If those cats were hungry, this may have ended differently. Cats want to expend the least amount of effort possible. That mongoose was going to be a pain for not much reward.

Wait wait did anyone else think that in the last bit of the video the one lioness was telling the one being assaulted by the mongoose to not engage. Don’t hit or kill it? I really got that vibe.

There was definitely some kind of communication. At the beginning of the video you can see one lion block the other with it's head and then growl at it.

This mongoose sounded like my girlfriend when I woke her up for work the day after daylight savings.

This is like a more intense version of my house from 9 pm to midnight when I let the ferrets out and the cats freak out.

That was a rollercoaster! First, that cat had no clue what demon just spawned in that hole. Then the second cat came, and the first cat was like “omg, thank god it’s you!” cuddles for comfort Then the other cat gets too curious, and gets a lesson for it.
I kept rooting for the lions, like just smack it already. But when that mongoose actually launched itself up to bite the lion in the face, I was sold. That crazy little fucker won me over.

Lions laughing at the mongoose "Lol look how big he thinks he is." They're just as shocked as we are that it's picking that fight.
TIL - don't piss off a mongoose

This would be a fantastic candidate for r/aminaltextgifs
Mongoose: "Fuckin come at me bro! Fight me!"
Lions: "Bruh are you stupid we will fuck you up"

This is my cats when they came across a garden snake one time. Very curious and got close, but too scared to do anything significant with the snake stuntin’ on them.

I can only imagine the mongoose having TWKYK Abe Lincoln voice, just marching that lioness around goin "Now ya fucked up, now ya fucked up, now ya fucked up, fucked up you have now!"

This is exactly how my sweet boy responds to bugs without wings. Flying bugs are game over, though.

I have a question. If a human would yell and charge at these lions, would the lions also be scared or at least apprehensive to fight back like this? It just weirds me out seeing bigger wildlife get scared of smaller ones.

I think you'd have a better chance of surviving if you tried to appear intimidating rather than scared. I jumped over a fence only to be face to face with a German Shepherd that started growling and eventually bolted at me. I raised my arms above my head to maky myself look bigger and yelled at the dog really loudly and it stopped in it's tracks long enough for me to grab my Frizbee and jump back over the fence.
When I went to Yellowstone, they suggested to do exactly what I did with that dog if a bear is charging at you, so I bet it could work!

This kind of situation happened with my cats and one particularly pissed off mouse once. It just started screaming like crazy and kept jumping at them. Usually a little mouse won't stand a chance against my cats but it seems they just got so flabbergasted at the reaction so they didn't really know what to do...

I love that they really are just giant cats and act like stupid scaredy cats sometimes too.
