Human Conversationalist He likes to chirp to complain about sneezes and coughs. I love him so much.

My oldest cat does this whenever I sneeze. ( I'm a loud sneezer when I actually let them out). She's so funny. I think she might think that I'm yelling at her or something.

u/lazeelaura Dec 17 '19
My tuxedo girl chitters to me as well every time I sneeze. She’s a bit of a jerk, so I think she’s telling me off instead of saying “Bless You.”
49
u/Lirgl Dec 17 '19
Mine too! Also if I cough or sniff too loudly. She's definitely annoyed and not blessing me. Little snot! Good thing for her she's so cute.

u/SlightlyIrked Dec 17 '19
My tuxedo girl meows every time I cough, even if she is asleep she will meow at me after I cough. My husband read where tuxedo cats dislike coughs & sneezes because they are highly protective of their immune system.

u/oddballAstronomer Dec 17 '19
My tuxie midna sat up from being tucked into bed and aggressively chirruped at me when I let a help out at 4am after watching the re3 remake trailer

because they are highly protective of their immune system.
I don't think a cat has any concept of what an immune system is.

13
u/Allieareyouokay Dec 18 '19
Bullshit, my cat is constantly testing out his immune system, usually by jumping in water and then shivering his way up to snuggle me while I sleep. Maybe he’s also testing my immune system.
For science, all of it.
Edit: wording is hard

u/thestralcounter44 Dec 18 '19
True story:when I had my son three days later first day at home I had a blood clot to the brain. When it was happening all the cats we had gathered around and howled ate scratching my legs. That’s what got my spouse up and got me to the hospital. I couldn’t walk or talk right for a week, two weeks to be completely ok.
4
u/Allieareyouokay Dec 18 '19
That’s amazing! I must be dehydrated...
3
u/thestralcounter44 Dec 18 '19
Why would you be dehydrated?
5
32
u/cheese-scrumps Dec 17 '19
My cat straight up mocks me when I sneeze/cough. She actually pays attention to how many times I do either then she meows back at me the same number of times in the most sarcastic sounding meow in existence 😂
7
24
u/Brklynn84 Dec 17 '19
My fluffy boy chatters at me too whenever I sneeze in his presence. He always looks worried when I sneeze.
12
Dec 18 '19
My husband's sneezes can be heard from the moon (laws of physics be damned) and one of our cats will scold him with a long, extended single meeeeeeooooooooowwww! She even leaves her mouth open at the end.

Most of my reddit is now cat subs. What's one more, right? Lol
27
u/romansparta Dec 17 '19
Same, r/tuckedinkitties might be my favorite after this one. Too bad I'm allergic to cats irl.
13
u/jamezverusaum Dec 17 '19
I'm allergic too. I still have 10.😊
7
u/romansparta Dec 17 '19
That's incredible, I only have one but my allergies are still intolerable 😥
4
u/jamezverusaum Dec 18 '19
Try zyrtec or xyzal? Zyrtec works for me. I also work in animal rescue and fostering.
3
u/romansparta Dec 18 '19
Thanks for the recs, I figure it's worth checking out. Costco brand really doesn't do much for me.
3
u/jamezverusaum Dec 18 '19
I use an off brand for zyrtec but I know Xyzal is supposed to be formulated more towards animal allergies. It's like zyrtec with added molecules.
3
u/romansparta Dec 18 '19
Thanks a ton, if xyzal works then I'll be able to hug my cat again!

u/Jaellbee Dec 17 '19
I used to have a cat who would ekekekekek whenever you sneezed. Could always tell a fake sneeze from a real one too. She was a sweetheart.
15
u/Pavarkanohi Dec 17 '19
Same with our two. Except one of them hates when I cough. He always starts to complain...when I sneeze both chirp at me, sometimes after each other. Can't help but think they say
"Shut up bitch!"
"Yeah shut up!"
"How dare you wake us up?"
"Yeah! The audacity!"
"We gon stop now?"
"Yeh" Then they're silent again
10
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Reminds me of that video from like 10 years ago of the two cats like talking.

This is cute.
My cat just gets startled and sometimes runs away when I sneeze. :(
7
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Do you have a dad sneeze?
3
u/din_the_dancer Dec 17 '19
I don't know if I'd say I have a dad sneeze but it can be loud sometimes.
Usually when my cat runs away it's because I sneezed and he was sitting on my lap.
17
u/GracefulKluts Dec 17 '19
"Don't die human, you must remain to feed me."
8
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
I think this is what he's actually saying! Even if I'm gone, he'll still be fed! No problem, cat!
16
u/MagnoliaKnight Dec 17 '19
I realize this is a sub about cats but my bird chirps whenever me or my roommate fart :(
16
7
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
I'd still want to hear it! I have a bird at home, but he never chirps. Just like loud yelling.
3
11
u/mamphylilley Dec 17 '19
My cat would do this! Every time I coughed she’d meow. If I coughed back to back she’d meow louder and louder each time. It’s like she was asking me if I was okay!

u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Next cycle 2020! I sneeze a lot more nowadays because when I kiss him, I will inhale him. Bad times were had with the long haired cat!

u/krista37m Dec 17 '19
My cat meows at me when I sneeze too much. She’ll let the first couple go but beyond that she tells me to cut it out I think.

3
u/Herry_Up Dec 17 '19
“Why are you being so loud, can’t you see I’m trying to sleep?”
“So you’re gonna keep making noises to get a reaction outta me? I’ve had enough, goodnight”

u/coopatrooper Dec 17 '19
Our girl does this too! We've always said she was saying bless you. And his eyes are beautiful!
2
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Awwh thank you! Is she a tuxedo?
His eyes are usually more yellow, but the angle makes it green! I've always wanted coloured eyes (Asian)! But at least my boy has it.
2
u/coopatrooper Dec 17 '19
Nope, she's a dilute tortie! Crazy, talkative girl, haha.
Her's change from gold to green a lot! Must be pretty common. Give him some scritches from me, he's such a handsome boy 🤗
3
u/brenee1993 Dec 17 '19
Omg my youngest does this too! She gets so offended whenever someone sneezes 😂

3
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
It's weird cause half his face has a moustache, but the other half is more mask-y. Like they ran out of toner midway.
3
u/spewwwintothis Dec 17 '19
Will we ever discover the true reason cats do this??!! I need this mystery to be solved!
3
u/spewwwintothis Dec 17 '19
My cat chirps when my boyfriend sneezes (but not when I do) and when my bird starts making a lot of noise. I've read somewhere that she is "stretching her jaw muscles" in preparation to attack. It seems ridiculous but is this the secret??

4
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
OMG THAT'S SO RUDE. They love you too much and can't stand the sight of you being sad.
3
3
u/rookiespinster Dec 18 '19
My cat does this when I cry. If I'm really sobbing he will match my pitch while sitting in the corner and staring at me. It's like he's mocking me. Emotional support animal my ass.

u/Akitten84 Dec 17 '19

My Kitty did this at birds... but also whenever we did dishes... especially the utensils.

When I first researched about it, it says that cats do it at birds!
Your cat is a cutie!

"I'm tryna sleep here!!!" 😻❤
3
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
If you noticed, the first chirp-yell was already happening when I started recording. That was from an actual sneeze.
2
u/headlessgirl Dec 17 '19
sounds like he Is saying do you mind! I am trying to sleep!
3
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
If he can lie on my chest to wake me for attention, I can wake him up for a video.
You gotta pay rent somehow, cat.

My tuxie does NOT like when I clear my throat, and always has to come lodge a complaint.
2
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Is it a tuxedo thing? It surprised us when it happened the first time, because we didn't know what to look up to see if he's genuinely mad.
1
2
u/pottymouthgrl Dec 17 '19
Wow he literally has my whole entire heart
5
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
He's actually a heartbreaker, I'm sorry! Literally just yesterday I was baking something from the kitchen and when I went outside, I saw him cuddling my husband's mum. He saw me and with a guilty look, just left her.
It was so funny like he knew he got caught betraying.
2
u/RegularWhiteShark Dec 17 '19
I always get told off by my cat when I sneeze or cough. Sometimes he’ll give me a right mouthful and then leave in a huff.

u/lirgecaps Dec 17 '19

My kitty does this too! She also sits on my lap and chirps at me if I’m crying, I think she’s trying to comfort me.. love her so much
2
u/hanzosrightnipple Dec 18 '19
Two of my cats do this too! I'll sneeze and they'll look at me and start chirping and telling me off for it. If they're asleep when it happens, a few seconds will go by and then I'll hear a muffled, sleepy sequence of chirps and sighs. It's very cute. Sometimes I'll fake it and start to sneeze and then stop myself, and I'll still get chirped at.

Whenever I used to cough, my grandma would say "die quietly" and it's always stuck with me.
Pretty sure that's what they're saying.

u/IdiotTurkey Dec 17 '19
It could possibly be interpreted as a yell and then a hiss?
2
u/Other_Vader Dec 17 '19
Got the right sub!
1
u/IdiotTurkey Dec 18 '19
Huh? I meant your sounds, not the cat. Like, the cat might interpret your cough as you yelling at him, and the sneeze as a hiss towards him. And he's all like "whaaat? im just sleeping here" "u hissing at me? wat i do"
