Discussion So how did we rationalize this in the past? Spoiler

Did we just chalk it up to be not fully understanding her powers properly or something. Cause in hindsight, the devil for famine casually bringing reviving a devil that got dismembered by probably the strongest weapon Asa could make is kinda crazy 😭😭😭

Idk, I always read it as she was dying in that moment, but not currently dead. Asa can't just save that, and Yoru at that point was less cooperative.

I always just saw it as powerful devil fuckery, not necessarily tied to any specific abilities

We know also that you can save devils from death by giving them blood, alternatively she might have given Yuko a piece of her flesh, since we also know that eating the flesh of a powerful devil makes you stronger (as shown with tge Gun Devil flesh) and presumably could also heal you if you're a devil, or a devilified human like Yuko.

Pochita regenerated Power to her full devil form from just the bit of blood that was still in Denji, so this checks out

Powerful Devil Fuckery

I completely agree with you. I dont accept this scene as a "hint she was the death devil". Pseudo-immortality and revival is a standard for them.

Denji revived through Chainsawman. Puppet Devil gives extra lives, Gun Devil turned Aki into a fiend. Etc

Snickers

Is that the role play snickers like snickers or is it the candy bar version that goes “you’re not you when you’re hungry”

Death's not her when she's Fami.

Yes, it's a joke about candy bar

Makima revived a lot of people. I honestly won't be surprised if all horsemen can do that

18

u/Environmental-Sun241 2d ago

Who?

u/kolt437 2d ago

Akane, Kurose, Tendo and seemingly Aki. It was alluded that she fell in love with her after she revived him in some way.

u/Hungry_Winner 2d ago

From what I remember I think she was just puppeting there dead corpses.

u/kolt437 2d ago

Akane lost her head to the snake devil.

Yes, of course they lacked the personality, technically, but even their devil contracts were active, which doesn't sound possible with puppets.

It is, look at the Doll devil contract of the Santa's Puppet guy Makima used to escape Darkness Devil

1

u/kolt437 3h ago

That's true, but, to be fair, he was a doll, not just a human.

And also, it shows that she can control such contracts even with the head alone, so there wouldn't be any reason to patch up the body

1

u/Venki_Venky Reze Queen 3h ago

He was a human, Edit - I think Makima just brings back dead people to pseudo alive status to use their contracts, b4 disposing of them again.

1

u/kolt437 3h ago

He is most likely that half demon thing. Like Yuko or Santa themselves.

I can see that being the case, yes.

Ya, and Aki (and probably Arai) while turned into fiends not exactly brought back to life

u/Pardis4 2d ago

Easy, cause healing isn't beyond powerful Devils, especially since we know horsemen level devils have others working for them. It can easily be seen as combining a bunch of Devil contracts for the desired effect.

idfk, demon magic?

remember when Makima just blew up some random people after hearing their names? what did that have to do with control?

They were dangling on the palm of her hand.

She closed that hand.

4

u/funkotron2k 1d ago

the implication was she was making the prisoners use the punishment devil (kurose and tendo's contracted devil)

I was reading through discussion threads, and honestly we really didn't

It was a while later that Fami was even introduced as Fami, and a whileeee later that Fami's powers were explained

8

u/ExplorerNo1496 2d ago

Have they tho all we see is her recovering by absorbing things

4

u/Choi_Boy3 1d ago

I think they were saying Fami as in Death, they didn’t introduce themselves as Famine until the aquarium, and their power of “making anyone that she starves into a pawn” (bullshit) was explained there as well.

I feel like the sub was in the midst of a war saying this mysterious girl was death or not, but once she said she was famine we all were so hyped we stopped considering her to be death.

26

u/__M-E-O-W__ 2d ago

I wasn't entirely opposed to the idea that Fami was actually Death, until the scenes where she was constantly eating food.

8

u/LioTang 2d ago

Makima was seen controlling puppets of dead people, it wouldn't have been that far fetched for Fami to be able to revive people to a certain extent

u/MrCleanandShady 2d ago

it’s very hard to keep up with manga, let alone CSM, on a chapter to chapter basis and keep everything in context

i think Fami doesn’t appear for a while after she does this, combine that with us just straight up not knowing enough as readers and we were basically smokescreened

7

u/Lord-Kibben 2d ago

I thought it was a thing where “Fami” fed Yuko some blood or something to help her heal up

2

u/retardedplayerone 2d ago

her head kinda just did that

2

u/Mika433566 2d ago

like why we just ignored that chapter after she introduced her self as famine, we should know this if we think about this before that she's the death devil. We're so dumb😭

1

u/YaBoyMahito 2d ago

It was to force her into a contract.

My theory is once devils merge with a human, death has full control of them. She rules the other devils.

So, this is why she’s trying to get as many people at the school into devil contracts. Full control over their consciousness after, so it doesn’t matter what they offer for the contract

Or maybe she needs the human + the devil to be able to do the contract in the first place (only human - devil contracts have been shown so far)

1

u/Juste_Ed 2d ago

I guess Death Devil commanded Justice Devil to give her more power.

1

u/iloveSkylerWhiteyo 2d ago

I just thought of something, why didn’t Asa just keep this weapon? Are they single use or some shit?

1

u/Beijingbingchilling 2d ago

which weapon? iirc uniform sword broke apart

1

u/iloveSkylerWhiteyo 2d ago

damn I didnt remember that shit broke

1

u/mnemosynie 2d ago

she’s a secretive devil, who knows maybe she just found a way to do it in preparation to fight her supposedly really terrifying and hard to beat “big sister”, atleast that’s what i always assumed when she did something uncharacteristic

1

u/SwagDrQueefChief 2d ago

Eating (strong) devil's flesh does the same thing. Frequently devils have powers that don't quite align with their identity. So fairly easy to rationalise.

1

u/flowerpanda98 2d ago

i personally forgot

1

u/Robert0023 2d ago

idk, how did we rationalize Makima turning into rats in Part One?

1

u/unw00shed 2d ago

she is technically a hybrid so I just assumed "famine" fed yuko blood to get her back like that

1

u/Chexreflect 1d ago

I summed it up to Yuko being in a hybrid like state where she can consume flesh to regenerate, and she was fed blood or flesh offscreen

1

u/GodlessLunatic 1d ago

Makima was already shown to be capable of 'reviving' fallen allies under her control. It wasn't implausible for Fami to have similar powers, especially given how intertwined famine is with life

1

u/Doomerdy 1d ago

this made me remember how sad it was when Yuko died. Come back girl :(

1

u/DJL2772 1d ago

I’m gonna be totally real. I’m just on Fujimoto’s Wild Ride. Every new chapter makes me go “What in the fuck?!” And then I piece everything together later lmao. When stuff like this happens I just say DAMN and keep reading because I assume I just don’t have context yet.

1

u/Pollomonteros 1d ago

Weirdly enough with what we have seen the actual Fami do her being able to save someone from the brink of death doesn't seem that out of the ordinary, if she can transfer the life force of living beings back to her the who says she can't transfer some of her force to someone else ?

1

u/MrPrisman 13h ago

I assumed she fed yuko sth, like a shrunken devil for example, to gain its strenght.

-2

u/roronoa20 2d ago edited 2d ago

Death Devil is an entity that controls death, so why is it so weird for her to just delay or prevent the effect of death?

It’s not that hard to come to this conclusion.

EDIT: If we talk about how Famine could achieve this, I’d say it’s a redistribution of nutrients, Famine herself can suck the lifeforce of any being, so again, I can see her transfer lifeforce into Yuko, reviving her.

10

u/deqimporta 2d ago

It's not, he's just saying that we thought she was famine and yet she "revived" Yuko, which would be a bit weird for that devil, but not death. It's just about how this is a little foreshadowing

5

u/roronoa20 2d ago

Yup, I saw that and just added the EDIT into my reply.

1

u/emeraldkingpanda-kun 2d ago

So everyone who died can be brought back you say ...nayuta

3

u/Beijingbingchilling 2d ago

i mean devils don’t die they get reincarnated i’m not sure if death can turn the current control devil back into nayuta or back into makima
