I need help choosing a program…

And I’m running out of time! I’m between Fairleigh Dickinson (PhD), LIU Brooklyn (PhD), and Yeshiva (PsyD), and any insight at all would be hugely appreciated!

My mentors gave me the best advice when I was choosing between offers: talk to the alumni and choose the place/mentor/lab that you can see yourself thriving in the next 5 years

Which program has the best funding?

I’ve received scholarships/assistantships at all three, and they’re basically all the same price point wise

How much per year total? Just surprising that psyd is same cost as Phd. Long term Phd might have slight advantage for some positions. Private practice won’t matter.

If they were all the same cost I would care most for between my interest and the mentor interests and personality, and internship sites they match with the most.

Which has the best mentor match?

How much do you like being in a city vs the suburbs?

Damn, playa! This is very baller. Things that are KEY: mentor match: does your mentor seem like they give real time and energy to students or are they gunning for tenure at their expense? Does your own interest really or only kind of match? Student vibe: are they having fun? Are they miserable? Are they hardo arrogant douches? Does the program offer solid and diverse clinical training or will you have to find externships on your own? Does the clinical/research balance fit with your goals? I'll add stuff as it comes to mind.

I would also try and check to see what internship sites their students match with- assuming all of these schools have solid match rates, low attrition, EPPP pass rates etc

Can you sit in on some classes? I found that helpful when I was deciding which program to attend.

Also, which commute is better for you?

None of the programs are particularly strong, but brooklyn would be super fun.

No need to be mean! I’m very proud of myself for making it this far

Nothing mean about it all. Im saying that none of the programs are more prestigious than the others. So location will be all that matters.

IMO if all things are equal in terms of funding and training- go with a PHD. It is the more recognizable degree in the general world and can make you somewhat more marketable to the lay person

Would it be ok if I ask what your application was? Trying to beef mine and would love to get an idea of what a competitive application like yours look like
