What's your favourite crime/noir comic? The Weekly Recs Thread [04/06/25]
Who doesn't love a good crime comic, or some noir fun? Do you have a favourite? Do you buy every single Brubaker/Phillips comic the day it released? Are you a fan of 'street' level heroes like Daredevil? Have any comics inspired you to turn to a life of crime and pull off fantastic heists to become an internationally wanted criminal?

Discussion Remembering Gil Kane
Today would have been Gil Kane's 99th birthday, Kane, born Eli Katz on April 6, 1926 in Riga, Latvia and is noted for co-created the modern-day versions of the superheroes Green Lantern and the Atom for DC Comics, and co-created Iron Fist and Adam Warlock with Roy Thomas for Marvel. In 1997, he was inducted into both the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame and the Harvey Award Jack Kirby Hall of Fame.

Issue 2 of Prince of Peace — Michael is “born again”... but not by God. It only get darker from here.
Thanks for being here. Whether you're just discovering Prince of Peace or returning from Issue 1, welcome. This is a deeply personal comic — a psychological horror story inspired by my own experience with religious mania and delusion. If you're new, feel free to jump in here — the story is layered, but accessible. And if you're returning after issue 1, thank you for sticking with it.
Author’s notes included throughout for those curious about the story’s meaning and the life experience behind it.
The full (free) Issue 1 can be accessed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/1j9isld/i_was_convinced_i_was_destined_to_save_the_world/
I'd love to hear what you think of it so far.

Along comes Space Ghost
Wasn't expecting to see a Dynamite book join the collection this year but that's exactly what happened when I was given the first SPACE GHOST trade today. (As far as publishing houses go, Dynamite is rarely on my radar, but I've been known to enjoy their publications from time to time. Nelson's LORD OF THE JUNGLE, and Carey's BARBARELLA, Matthews's THE LONE RANGER, and Ellis's JAMES BOND books all come to mind.)
Saw nice reviews of the SPACE GHOST comic book and I'm optimistic that it'll be a fun read. Been a Space Ghost fan for a long time (not the Cartoon Network stuff from the 1990s, but definitely the 1966-1968 version that was in syndication during the 1970s.)
Pepose's writing is new to me, and so is Lau's art, making this SPACE GHOST comic book even more of an adventure for me than it might otherwise be.
The creator of the Space Ghost character (Alex Toth) was the same dude who created The Herculoids, and, not gonna lie, if we ever eventually see a HERCULOIDS comic book in print, I'll probably be its biggest fan.

Discussion I don't want "who would win in a fight?" I want what two characters from different comic companies that would be best friends?
My personal of the top of my head choices are * Hellboy and Wolverine * Static Shock and Miles Morales Spider-man * Invincible and Superboy (Conner)

Discussion Savage Dragon is still an incredible run!
Issue 276 hit recently, and Erik has been upping the pace. Pretty much everything I can think of to do in a superhero life story comic run, he's done. And you can see the influence it has on Invincible, Kirkman says Dragon is his favorite comic. And he worked on some of the minis.
Just all sorts of fun freewheeling inventive stuff. Done with a good sense of humor and love of the medium of comic book storytelling. Not every tidbit appeals to everyone, a bit cult/underground, but he's always onto the next cool idea, and I personally love it.
Here's to over 300 issues, hopefully over 400!

Question Pushing through a comic you can't enjoy
Has anyone ever gotten part way through a comic and realized you just aren't enjoying it? It's happening to me right now with a daredevil comic and all I can think about is reading one of my other xmen or power ranger comics. I like the art of it, the story is cool, I just can't seem to make myself enjoy it. What have you done if this ever happened? Force yourself to finish it so you know the plot or just abandon it? I like really daredevil, don't get me wrong, I just can't seem to enjoy this comic even though I feel like I should. So far I have just been forcing my way through it telling myself when I finish I can read something I am more excited about.
Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions and encouragement to put down the comic. I think I just needed to hear others say that its okay and it happens. Maybe I will come back to it eventually but for now I'm setting it at the bottom of my stack.

Who’s your favorite underrated artist or writer?
I love Marco Rudy but I feel like he hardly ever gets mentioned. One of the best artists out there right now.
