It does seem like the transition team was pretty effective at priming a lot of stuff.

Our pronouns are ‘we the people’

I hope a lot of moderate fence sitters and maybe some liberals realize it’s the most inclusive stance of all, and move away from divisive radical identitarianism.

His first term was people who didn't have much experience with the WH and government. Mistakes were made and thinks were clunky. I think we're about to get a well oiled machine.

258

u/JoeWinchester99 Peace through strength Jan 20 '25

Part of the problem with his first term was that he picked people who actively worked against his agenda from the inside while he naively assumed his cabinet should follow the policy he set. Now he knows that he needs to have people working for him who are on board with his vision.

u/JellyfishQuiet7944 Constitutionalist Jan 20 '25

Agreed. I'm pretty excited for his second term. I believe Trump truly loves America and wants America to be the best country in the world.

Amazing what can happen when serious adults are in charge.

52

u/WPWeasel Conservative Jan 20 '25

Democrats ruined the word 'adults' for me. Especially since they acted like kids in a candy shop spending wildly and grabbing whatever they could, consequences be damned.

Serious professionals are back in charge and implementing the changes to right the ship right out of the gate. It's seriously reassuring to see.

He hadn't been in politics before, and his first term was immensely restrained by the Russia hoax investigation. He knew to pick the right people this time, and knows they'll come after him so they're prepped to go hard right out of the gate, to make the most important changes before a cooked-up investigation surfaces, while the people are on his side and while holding all three branches of government.

They had an app? wtf.

588

u/JediJones77 Conservative Cruzer Jan 20 '25

It's been heavily reported on in conservative media and discussed on this sub. Biden and Harris authorized hundreds of thousands of foreigners to claim "parole" through the CBP One app, which allowed them automatic, legal entry into the U.S. for 2 years. This was done so they could claim illegal border crossings were down as they ran for re-election. They got the "illegal crossings" down by letting in all the people coming to the border legally via the app. They got this done through an abuse of the "parole" concept, which had only ever been used previously for a very limited amount of people in extreme circumstances. This is why J.D. Vance had his "fact check" at the debate. The Republicans continued to want to claim these border crossings were illegal, but technically Biden got these people into the country through an abuse of a legal status.

214

u/Rush_Is_Right Conservative Jan 20 '25

Yep, it's like raising the limit for what constitutes a felony and then claiming crime is down.

u/Kahnspiracy ¡Afuera! Jan 20 '25

100%. Look, I don't begrudge anyone wanting to come the US. The vast majority of people are in favor of legal immigration. We also need to look at reforming the laws to have a guest worker program that can lead to citizenship. If you're legally contributing to the country, you should have a path and nobody should be allowed to cut in line.

67

u/thenChennai Conservative Jan 20 '25

as a legal migrant to the US, I can empathize with people who come to the US in search of a better life. However, a country is defined by its borders and if its left open, it can become an unsolvable problem in a very short time.

→ More replies (1)

39

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '25

Legal immigration can be abused just as easily, and we need to be cognizant of that going forward. We already know Musk wants H-1B slaves, and Canada is a case study in what the end result of legal mass immigration looks like - ie the same as illegal in terms of social cohesion and suppressed wages. I'm cautious about this Trump presidency, and just hope he does right by the people.

39

u/SkyBridge604 Canadian Conservative Jan 21 '25

Canadian here. Your're right, our country feels like we've been living through an Indian invasion and now my teenager can't find a job cause they're all filled with 40 year old Indian "students."

17

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '25

Same with my kid. He can't find anything, and we live in a small country town. He's at uni and needs some money. He's tried the servo, pizza place, pub (18 is the drinking age here in Aus) only to find they're all now owned and staffed by Indians. He's also fired off hundreds of resumes for student-friendly jobs closer to the city, and nothing.

I can't believe what has happened to this country. My first job was at 12 stacking shelves at a supermarket. That could never happen today, even if it was legal. Indians have taken every unskilled position in the country, it seems. Don't even get me started on the IT sector.

9

u/Racheakt Hillbilly Conservative Jan 21 '25

This is the crux of the problem; it has made pursuing an IT degree worth less, that is an expensive degree, and you get out and your competitors for jobs is foreign labor that works for less and more hours.

Yet they also complain when people make the logical conclusion that degree is not worth the payoff.

We need better quality control though.

I 100% agree.

Look at what skills we need that we don't have enough Americans to fill, and only let people with those skills in.

Who defines that? The government? Businesses know what they need -from agriculture to tech.

Also, I'm 100% fine with rich entrepreneurs coming in and starting businesses.

3

u/NoLeg6104 ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Jan 21 '25

Well we always need wealthy entrepreneurs, so they always get a green light.

And I am sure we have labor statistics on which job sectors have unfulfilled jobs.

We only have so much room, before it becomes a burden on resources.

38

u/Kahnspiracy ¡Afuera! Jan 20 '25

Nobody is advocating for unlimited immigration (except the fringe left). However, by definition, if some is 'contributing' to the country there are a net positive. Otherwise they would be 'detracting'.

Also, the US is blessed with a lot of resources, natural and otherwise. The bigger concern than resources is cultural integration. When immigrant populations are too large, they tend to coalesce and create slower integration cycles which tends to impede their ascendance to the middle class (and beyond).

6

u/aliislam_sharun Conservative Capitalist Jan 21 '25

We just need enough immigration to keep us slightly over the replacement amount of new Americans, until Americans start having enough babies, then it should be shut down to almost nothing except for extremely valuable individuals like doctors, engineers, and cold ones cast

5

u/curlbaumann don’t give up the ship Jan 21 '25

There’s too much immigration going on considering how many Americans can’t find jobs and are being passed up in favors of immigrants or visas.

The Biden administration let things set up to make people like the woman in the photo, from Colombia, a 'safe' country, come to the US and claim 'asylum' and be allowed into the country with no vetting, possible transportation to a place like NYC where she could get a free hotel room and a debit card. Or maybe she wanted something else. The issue is that we cannot take everyone and she needs to apply properly.
