It’s a bright colorful movie which is great, it looks clear and hopeful, not overcast and gloomy. I think it gets back to the mood of the Reeves films. I thought the dog was going to be ridiculous but it doesn’t seem that way. I don’t give a shit about the suit, it’s campy to begin with, how could it not be?

I trust James Gunn, he made the Guardians fun and worth watching, I trust him with this.

Looks good, you can definitely see James Gunn’s style of film making which isn’t my favourite but I’m still hopeful

Story looks good, but I hate this song? It's like the trailer was edited in 2001 movie maker.

The song is crap but it's given so much weight in this trailer like we're supposed to like this song? Maybe you guys recognize it as a Superman theme so maybe it has an association for you, but for me I've not heard this song before so it just sounds like loud noise.

David Corenswet seems like a bad actor in this trailer.

I like the Godzilla though. Great special effects on that fireball spit.

Don't really like the cinematography.

This is perfection. I repeat, this is perfection

u/mattmaintenance Dec 19 '24

I haven’t been this excited for a DC movie in decades!

u/Wendell_wsa Dec 20 '24

I didn't give a shit about this movie until I saw the Krypto, I'll have to watch

u/CellSaga21 Dec 20 '24

Please do not go on Twitter. Full of obnoxious people already shitting on the movie. Why are the Snyder fans so insufferable?

u/ragnarok0424 Dec 19 '24

lets..........fucking............GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

u/haveagood1 Deathstroke Dec 19 '24

I've already seen it for the most part hard pass.

u/JuanJack1979 Dec 19 '24

This looks so bad. I laughed. Some of it looks like terrible cosplay.

u/Ozimandiass Dec 19 '24

No thanks. Yea the trailer music is dope.

But as an amateur music producer, it is easy for me to see only the picture and noise effects.

I don't like it

u/marcbta Dec 19 '24

Same story, different actors. Enough already.

u/therapistextreme Dec 19 '24

This? They took away Zack and gave us this? A dog in a cape? sure, I love comic books, but I was hoping the movies would be... I dunno... not campy. It is too bright, the suit makes him look like a Temu Cobra Commander, and Guy Gardner... what the heck is up with his hair? I'll watch it, because my religion demands it, but I am going to hate it.

Feels like it's gonna be 4 hours long or not focus on any plot long enough for anything to matter. Looks like an awesome trailer for a superman tv show, but I don't know how it'll do as a movie.

u/JiffyDealer Dec 19 '24

SUPERDOG!!

u/thequehagan5 Dec 20 '24

i expected to be disappointed, and was still disappointed

Krypto looks ridiculous

David Corenswet is very subpar compared to Cavill

The new suit looks stupid

The world looks fake and plastic

Lois lane looks well cast though.

Overall looks look another cheesy joke filled james gunn movie. He is the wrong director for superman.

Did not expect krypto, and when he whistled I was like “you didn’t!” 😂 Cannot wait to see this in theaters

u/trademarkcopy Dec 19 '24

My God. Yes it's got modern dark and contrasty visuals but there's also PRIMARY COLORS in this thing. Good GOD the suit looks good when the red, blue and yellow aren't muted. And it makes the battle damage actually stand out.

This feels like a fully fleshed out world we are meeting in media res, instead of doing a "let's start from the beginning" sort of thing.

Plus, Racheal looks absolutely spot on as Lois without saying a damn word.

Using Cleveland, Ohio as the setting for Metropolis is top notch.

Superman was created in Cleveland. Way to give back to the city!

u/daiatlus79 Jan 04 '25

also based on Toronto, especially back when Clark worked at The Daily Star not the Daily Planet.

u/bonghitsforbeelzebub Dec 19 '24

This seems really cartoonist and cheesy to me. Like the weird super dog what's up with that?

I am dumbfounded at how so many people poopooed on this project just because it was a James Gunn helmed project. Gunn has incredible range, and I cannot wait to see him prove that to the world with this movie. You have my support James Gunn.

Seeing Superman in his own movie again after so long is going to be something special. This trailer did everything right imo.

u/HonorInDefeat Dec 19 '24

I don't need this to be great, I just need it to be better than Zack

u/SimpleSink6563 Dec 19 '24

This was fucking awesome.

u/Mattypoopoopeepee Dec 19 '24

Holy shit, this looks terrible

u/pwninobrien Dec 19 '24

Not doing much for me. Actually less hyped.

u/BruisedBee Dec 19 '24

Yeah, I think its Corensweet for me, I just don't look at him and see Superman, the same way Cavill just oozed it. He looks like a random dude cosplaying. The weird suit doesn't help that either.

u/Formans_Basement76 Dec 20 '24

You guys are way too obsessed with Cavil. He was stale and emotionless and way too dark. No idea what this obsession with a mid storyline and multiple mid movies is

u/Mr_BruceWayne Dec 19 '24

I don't know how many times I'll watch this trailer. It will probably be a lot. That's it though. I'm not going to watch any others if they release them.

The Batman was just about ruined by it's final trailers showing just about all the cool parts of the film minus Batman fighting his way through the nightclub.

I don't know shit about this movie other than it looks like it's going to be amazing. Going to skip any future trailers for this. I don't want to know one more thing about this movie before I see it.

u/Amazing-Pangolin3230 Dec 19 '24

Krypto in his little red cape made me ridiculously happy. And I despite how much people associate him with the zany silver age on some level Superman having a dog just works. He seems like the kind of guy that would have a dog.

But honestly the teaser struck the perfect balance of show casing the different parts of the film (Clark and Superman, Lois, Daily Planet, Lex and LexCorp, Mr Terrific, etc) and not giving too much away in terms of the actual plot.

We ultimately won't know until the film comes out but I'm hyped.

Guy Gardner looks like a dick, well done Nathan FIllion.

I have to give it to the music, feels so good, same same, but different.

Bring on July 11!

u/DrunkMc Dec 19 '24

Love that Gunn wanted to embarrass FIllion with that haircut and man, they nailed that haircut.

u/ComfortableHuman1324 Dec 19 '24

It's such a bad haircut, which means it's perfect for Guy.

u/Drew326 Dec 19 '24

u/Willing-Bus-3582 Dec 19 '24

A lot to put in 1 movie

u/Crazyripps Dec 20 '24

Man I still just don’t like the look of the suit. Was hoping it would look better then it did in the photos but still not liking it on film

u/jamnin94 Dec 20 '24

Who's the guy that looks like Zordon? I recognize everyone else but him.

u/DoctorBeatMaker Dec 19 '24

Very Nice!

The one thing I asked for this trailer to show is the tone and it felt right to me.

It looks like Superman is who he is, but is in a world that rejects his idealism. I really hope that this is part of the plot where people don't trust Superman because they don't believe anyone can be morally sound like that until he proves them wrong.

u/paintpast Dec 19 '24

I hope it's more like Birthright where Lex is pulling the strings to make Superman look like a bad guy somehow. Superman is frustrated that he can't just make people see the truth, but other heroes like Guy know it's BS.

I guess BvS did something like that, too, but there was no one on Superman's side in that one.

u/JackMorelli13 Dec 19 '24

I'm seated. The theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because it's "not July 11th yet" but I'm simply too seated.

u/IAmMcMuffin25 Dec 19 '24

I know I'm in the minority here. So that's all I'll say.

u/marcofreitas17 Dec 19 '24

u/spondgbob Dec 19 '24

Is this the DC CU renaissance?! The Batman and Superman now… we’re moving up

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '24

DC finna get redemption with this one.

u/Takkie1990 Dec 20 '24

Trailer looks amazing as expected, Gunn always deliver! And one thing you gotta love about Gunn, he brings characters to the big screen that other directors won't dare to use like Krypto and Mister Terrific. This is going to be a awesome universe. Can't wait to see what he'll do with the Lanterns, Batman, Aquaman, Flash and all the other DC characters that we love!

u/psyopia Dec 19 '24

I’m so confused. There’s a large majority saying it looks cheesy as hell and I’m seeing something completely different here. This looks insanely good.

Whatever. God I can’t stand some of these fans bro. Bout to pull my hair out.

u/LiterallyTestudo Dec 19 '24

I think part of what makes this trailer so appealing to me is that the movie clearly doesn’t take itself overly seriously.

u/NoPie1049 Dec 19 '24

It's more like a tiny minority saying that, the vast majority seems positive. I think we all know that most of the negativity is coming from fans of a certain director.

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24 edited Dec 19 '24

A few things I noticed.

  • 0:42 - The headline behind Lois says "Towns flooded following extreme weather".
  • 1:30 - Someone is on top of the bridge connecting the two towers of LuthorCorp. Too small to see who it is exactly, but doesn't look like Luthor. Edit: Seeing a couple of posts saying it's the Engineer.
  • 1:33 - The "cell" Superman punches out of looks like the same area Lex is in starting at 1:31. Curious who the people are in the other cells.
  • 1:43 - Hawkgirl is walking with Guy Gardner into Stagg Industries. If you go frame-by-frame here, you can also see Mister Terrific walking in as well. However, I don't see Hawkgirl and Terrific in the same frame.
  • 1:45 - The building that Hawkgirl is flying towards looks to be the same or similar building to the one in the background of the next shot with the kaiju-like creature.

Edit: Interestingly, no title art in the trailer.

u/DustyWindsStranger Jan 13 '25

DC FANS EATING GOOD FOR THE NEXT COUPLE YEARS!!!!

u/arnathor Dec 19 '24

I feel that I might be in the minority here but I was distinctly underwhelmed by that trailer. I’ve been a bit cool towards this film anyway, mainly based on a weirdly negative reaction I’ve had to the use of the Kingdom Come shield as his chest logo. I guess I’m not overly enamoured of Gunn either, I didn’t really rate GotG 2 and 3 (although the first is one of my all time favourite films). From the rota of distinctly d-list superheroes (with the exception of Guy Gardner who has always been a favourite of mine) to the overly saturated palette to the rubbish guitar version of the Superman March from the god-like original film, nothing about this trailer connected positively with me, and a lot of it felt quite negative.

I hope the full trailer actually feels more like its own thing rather a fan film.

u/PM_Me_Punny_Jokes_05 Dec 19 '24

ooof thank you. I just watched the trailer and then came to this thread and thought I was taking crazy pills. Been a Superman fan my entire life and this looks meh. Also Corenswet at Superman was always suspect, but he doesn't look right in the suit or as Clark. I hope I'm wrong and he pulls it off, but from what I just saw in the trailer...big miss. I really hope my first impression is wrong and the movie ends up being amazing, but I'm cautiously optimistic at best, at this point.

u/DomScribe Dec 19 '24

Sorry but this looks like very low budget

→ More replies (2)

u/Severe_Development96 Dec 19 '24

I think my favorite part of this trailer is that there is only one real action scene of him doing something superhero-y and is it him facing off with the justice league? Punching out a kaiju? Having an angsty fistfight with zod? No, it's him using his own body to protect a little girl from danger. THAT'S WHAT SUPERMAN IS ABOUT!!!!!! This trailer feels like the comic book superman and no one has managed to capture that feel since Christopher Reeves. I also absolutely love that almost half the trailer was dedicated to Clark Kent instead of superman. That's just proof James Gunn understands the character. I really hope the movie does some version of Lois and Clarks "My night with superman" arc to show how they get together. I really loved that in the books.

Also Krypto was absolutely adorable and sweet and the fact he's in the movie just makes me love it more

Huh. Great, we're already throwing in a hawk and a lantern.

Was kinda hoping for a Superman film about Superman.

Suit looks sexy as hell though.

u/Short_King_13 Dec 19 '24

Bowl cut Guy Gardner is real

u/mtm4440 Dec 19 '24

The trailer be like:

"This is from James Gunn"

"Yes, the guy that made the awesome Guardians of the Galaxy"

"No seriously, this one will actually be good. We got him now. Trust us."

u/IH8Lyfeee Dec 19 '24

The dog looks dumb and Luthor looks like he was cast in a budget Hitman film.

u/BatEl_323 Dec 19 '24

Am I the only one who thought the music resembles both the original superman score and DCEU superman score.

u/Mosk915 Dec 19 '24

Isn’t it just the John Williams theme on an electric guitar?

u/Diligent_Feeling_784 Dec 19 '24

Holy shit, I'm not even a Superman fan but I actually got emotional watching this trailer. Hyped!

u/4Demensionalroach Dec 20 '24 edited Dec 20 '24

I feel that most Krypto in comics look like a Pointer or Labrador, but this Krypto is also cute

u/sklmw2018 Dec 20 '24

I don’t get what everyone else sees in this trailer.

Admittedly, I’m not a huge Superman fan, but this did nothing for me. The wide angles and colors are not appealing and give me flashbacks of Wonder Woman 84 or The Suicide Squad. I know many people liked the latter, but it was a crap movie in my opinion. My biggest fear before and after watching the trailer is that Gunn would simply take the look of Guardians and try to apply it to Superman.

I will reserve judgement until I see the movie, but I’d be shocked if this does well in theaters.

u/gbdarknight77 Dec 19 '24

I’ll need to wait for the actual trailer. I just don’t care for how young Superman and Lex look. Why is Lex so hard to nail?

Still not a fan of the suit. The CW suit looks better.

Guy Gardner bowl cut is here!

Mr. Terrific is going to be awesome.

Why isn’t Krypto flying?

u/Phastic Dec 19 '24

I would like to apologize to James Gunn. I was not familiar with your game (well I was but I had my doubts about this one. Not anymore!!!!)

u/ndolphin Dec 19 '24

Ugh. You know. This may or may not be a great movie. At this point, I really don't care. How many Superman / Batman / Spiderman / etc. movies do we need? Are there no more creative writers in this world that can come up with something good and new? Are studios so afraid to innovate instead of trying to milk nostalgia? Just... enough already.

Its just sad.

u/Penguin-Monk Dec 19 '24

I liked it!

u/sstphnn Dec 19 '24

I am super excited

u/kingk1teman Dec 19 '24

Gunn is using slow mo shots... No...

WB/DC spoiling every thing in a trailer, yet again.

Movie looks like it is a CW show, mostly due to the piss poor colour grading and the weird shot composition.

Also, the suit still looks bad, but that hair curl is majestic.

u/uncapped Dec 19 '24

John Murphy went hard. The theme alone just fills my heart with joy and hopefulness.

u/Historical-Dingo Dec 19 '24

I was excited after watching the teaser for this teaser (when did that become a thing?). I even got chills! After watching this I feel very underwhelmed.  If this teaser is anything to go by I'll probably skip the cinema and wait for streaming, unless future trailers convince me otherwise. What a  disappointment 😞

u/Ieatbabyorphanz Dec 19 '24

Poor Cavill deserved this treatment.

u/HenrykSpark Dec 19 '24 edited Dec 19 '24

I thought the trailer was good, but the style felt overly clean and a bit too colorful for my taste. The underwear looks outdated, and the use of the John Williams theme didn’t feel necessary for this new take on the character. Despite my criticisms, I’m looking forward to the film and hope it delivers. The trailer is good, even though it didn’t evoke the same emotions in me as the Man of Steel teaser did back then.

I'm still not a fan of the collar, but it doesn't look terrible in action. I LOVE that they seem to have combined the Williams and Zimmer themes for this. The music legit made me teary-eyed.

I'm ready to believe in kindness and hope again.

u/FinancialBandicoot75 Dec 20 '24

Krypto, that’s the only thing that perked my interests. Coming from reeves era, this trailer had some memories of reeves. Now, I wish they would push forward DC in the next era and stop the reboots, which I thought this was, noticing other supes was intriguing.

I’m still up in air on getting excited for another Superman, but this better not be a great trailer and actual movie just sucks, but Gunn did great on GOTG series.

u/Commercial-Web-4674 Dec 19 '24

im not complaining but anyone has any idea as to why the movie has such a "yt movie" kinda color grading

u/Roronoa_Zaraki Dec 19 '24

Yeah, Gunn is clearly steering away from the 'dark, gritty' dc that I guess people associate with shit movies. It's even brighter and more colourful than Guardians. Kinda reminds me a bit of the more recent dc shows, like The Flash.

u/ApolloReads Dec 19 '24

This looks absolutely incredible

u/Hippobu2 Dec 19 '24

That shot of him bracing the girl just absolutely sent me. Makes me all soft and gooey. It's perfect. The boy calling out for Supes is also great as well. The GotG volume 2 and 3 both made me ugly cry, and I got the feeling that this will as well.

Also, wow, the action looks a lot more exciting that I was expecting. That shot of Supes punching the glass cage is just ...

u/Mymorningpancake Dec 19 '24

Where’s the “absolute cinema” meme

u/carpediem-88 Dec 20 '24

Looks dumb! Henry Cavill is the best super bad ever! Christopher Reeves was very good, but I watched the original show as well and every generation with technology has a different timeline and story.

Supermn been around for since 1952. James Gunn introduces himself in the trailer and says from guardians of the Galaxy! Cheesy and you dont need to cameo the movie or the director to beef it up.

I think the choice of removing Cavill will be bad and it looks bad. Henry Cavill is the man and we shall see. I will definitely go see in the movies but this actor remind me of the other guy who did superman

u/happybuffalowing Dec 19 '24

Pleasantly surprised, I must admit. I’m actually eager to see how this turns out. What a great way to sell a movie. I think Corenswet will do a great job.

First and foremost I’m a Batman fan but man this is making me cry like holy fucking shit bro this looks peak. Absolute cinema.

u/ryn2o01 Dec 19 '24

That theme gets me every damn time. So excited for this.

u/stupid-adcarry Dec 19 '24

I am hopeful just by how good that score is. Incredible stuff

u/Virtual_Ad9171 Dec 21 '24

Im torn because I liked the style of man of steel.  But it looks like it could be good.  Ill give it a shot.  I cant tell if its serious or campy?  I never really got the krypto thing 😅 and I kind of don't want to see the romance with Lois.  Im so bored of it  🤣 hopefully its good

u/imightbetired Dec 19 '24

He looks like an absolute dork as Clark and I mean that in the best way possible. Slouching, shuffling his feet, seeming generally confused about what’s going on around him at all times…this looks cool. This teaser did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Supes fighting a big ass Kaiju. Yes please.

u/endeternalentropy Dec 31 '24

I find this disappointing. superman is a character that does not need that many supporting heroes with him. For a movie that is opening a new era of the DCU it already seems crowded. Superman is a character that already needs a lot of screen time because it's split between Superman and Clark where both need screen time and character development. All the other heroes and the dog are nice to see but not necessarily in the first movie. If anything all these heroes can have a movie of their own together with Superman, and I think it would've still looked good. Also, Lex will need an arc and his character will need to grow and for us to think why it makes sense for him to hate superman( hopefully it's not because he made his hair fall off). I hope I am wrong as I am really looking to enjoy a DC project, but the abundance of character coupled with all these creative choices (such as the suit) is not looking great.

u/DigBick3005 Dec 19 '24

Instagram is such a shit cesspool for this, every single dudebro will just comment “durrr we want Cavil back”

u/notzenith3 Dec 19 '24

Totally digging this tease.

u/Various-Salt488 Dec 19 '24

I am… whelmed.

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24

1b+ easy peasy

DcU is back 🔥🔥

u/miko-galvez Dec 19 '24

I do not like how they used the original theme. I wish this set of movies has its own theme.

u/Eleglas Dec 19 '24

I mean, why? The Superman theme is iconic and perfect. Frankly, I would be disappointed if they didn't use it.

There’s this thing about superhero movies—let’s call it the “Everest Syndrome”—that every single one of them has to justify its own existence by aiming for the summit of whatever is currently considered the pinnacle of the genre. The culmination, the apex, the What Now? They have to be grittier than Nolan, snappier than Whedon, or more kaleidoscopically anarchic than Waititi. Which is to say, the cultural air around superhero films has become dense with the over-calibrated anxiety of influence. Enter James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, not just a movie, but (if early murmurs and its relentless marketing can be trusted) the antidote to America’s cultural and political entropy. By some sleight of hand or creative witchcraft, it seems poised to redefine the cinematic language of capes and cowls and maybe—and this is where the argument gets truly bananas—help heal an America currently gnawing on its own ideological extremities.

At the center of this madcap endeavor is the casting and narrative inclusion of Metamorpho, a DC Comics character whose whole deal is that he’s a human-ELEMENTAL mixologist. Metamorpho is both deeply obscure and wildly flamboyant—he’s the guy who turns his arm into neon plutonium for laughs. It’s a baffling choice, really, except when you realize it’s brilliant. The inclusion of a character like Metamorpho signals Gunn’s willingness to discard the faux gravitas and joyless realism that have burdened the genre since Man of Steel (2013). What Metamorpho does is remind us that superheroes are inherently weird, fun, and ridiculous. That their original appeal lay in their ability to embody both archetype and absurdity without apology. In doing so, Superman: Legacy acts as a cinematic oxygen mask, clearing the air of franchise fatigue and restoring a sense of childlike wonder and creative audacity to the genre.

But then there are the women—the techno-geared, aggressively gorgeous women. Let’s not pretend for one second that this isn’t deliberate. This is Gunn’s cheeky meta-commentary on the state of representation in the genre. These women are not “hot” in the lazy, objectified sense of the male gaze, but “hot” in the sense that they radiate an almost incandescent power. Their techno-armor is not merely aesthetic; it’s a statement about self-determination and futurism. In a cinematic landscape that has historically oscillated between sidelining female characters or tokenizing them as “strong” but bland, Superman: Legacy promises to do something radical: let them be whole. In this way, the film’s visual language and narrative threads argue for a future that isn’t just better—it’s electrifying, messy, and unafraid to sparkle.

Which brings us to the most audacious claim: that Superman: Legacy could save America, or at least America’s soul. Hyperbolic? Sure, but consider the stakes. We are a nation saturated in alt-right dog whistles, performative wokeness, and an infinite regression of ideological purity tests. The Superman mythos, at its best, has always been aspirational—an immigrant’s story about finding power in humility and strength in empathy. Gunn’s take seems to double down on this, rejecting the nihilism of Snyder’s Superman in favor of a vision that feels urgent and moral without being sanctimonious. Superman: Legacy isn’t about making superhero movies great again; it’s about reminding us why they mattered in the first place. And if it works, it won’t just reframe cinema—it might just realign a country desperately in need of a hero, or at least the idea of one.

It gave me goosebumps until the cheap villains showed up. That gave the trailer a CW kind of vibe.

u/Ligeia_E Dec 19 '24

I’m just gonna put it out here, Nathan’s Guy Gardner is peak comic book movie design.

u/SupraaDupra Dec 19 '24

No matter how you sort the comments in this post, the same ones are at the top, very weird

u/Travelbuds710 Dec 19 '24

Immediate chills and nostalgia when the music started... The John Williams theme music always needs to be part of Superman.

u/BodyWitty7845 Dec 19 '24

Dammit. I'm a dc fan boy and I didn't want to like it. I wanted to loathe it actually.. and it looks so good. So many heroes. And krypto.. what a good boy!! It can't get here fast enough..

As someone who watched the Reeves movies in the theatre and grew up with Superman bed set and curtains, this trailer left me with goosebumps.

The trailer starting with Supes fucked up really hit me. Something no movie has ever gotten right is how to really handle an OP character without looking stupid or contrived. It is a pervasive problem with Superman and Darth Vader. How do you convey someone that powerful while not making it look silly and also how do you make someone like that not boring? IMO, the path for a character like Superman is to make the movie about the character himself. I think Superman movies need to be less action and more character. Everyone knows Superman is mostly unbeatable. The stakes need to be raised in other aspects of the story as a result. I think James Gunn can do this
