Chandler looks badass with a beard. I hope he’ll get to have it in the role someday. If he survives this....

u/biirudaichuki Feb 27 '25
I only remember him from Early Edition, so considering that’s my only point of reference, motherfucker looks cool as shit! I’m gonna watch it just to see him kick ass, goddamn.
3
u/Substantial_Life4773 Feb 27 '25
lol, LOOOOVVVEEEDDDD Early Edition. When I saw him in Friday Night Lights I was like "that nerdy mfer is a cool Texas football coach?!" #range

Funny that I would not picture a young Chandler as Young Hal Jordan but he surely fits perfectly to my idea of an experienced Hal Jordan
16
u/BROnik99 Feb 27 '25
Sure, I got used to him. I think probably slightly more polished hair would go a long way, but they probably highlighting the realistic aspect in this case. Much happier with this choice than the rumoured Brolin, I love him as much as the other guy, but for the life of me I just didn’t see a single shred of Hal in him.
13
u/thesanmich Feb 27 '25 edited Mar 03 '25
Yeah Chandler looks really good here. Brolin is around the same age, but I've always felt like he's had this "I've looked 60 since the age of 30" look. More gruff if anything.
7
u/Maleficent_Task_329 Feb 27 '25
Walking down a desert highway doesn’t suggest that they are having the greatest day, this might just be him put through the wringer.
40
u/mr_greedee Feb 27 '25
I hope he becomes Parallax at some point
17
12
u/BICCHUWALA69 Feb 27 '25

Chandler looks badass with a beard.
he definitely does, but does he feel like Hal? idk
18
u/BROnik99 Feb 27 '25
I see bit of resemblance with the Earth One Hal and I believe they said this is partly inspiration for this version of the characters? Never read it, heard very good things tho.
15
u/Space_Pirate_Roberts Feb 27 '25
Definitely moreso than Ryan Reynolds, at least.
10
u/Purple-Mix1033 Feb 27 '25
Ryan Reynolds could’ve been a good Flash
13
u/Space_Pirate_Roberts Feb 27 '25 edited Feb 27 '25
Oh for sure. I remember around the same time his casting was either announced or being rumored, it was also rumored they were talking to Bradley Cooper about being the Flash, and I thought “how did they manage to cast these two roles perfectly and then reverse them?”
6
u/PantsUnderUnderpants Feb 27 '25
Exactly. It was so wild they messed that up. Those two could have been absolutely perfect in the roles.

u/sandman795 Feb 27 '25
White brunette male in jeans and jacket. Definitely hal. The description is too spot on!

First look at the Lantern Ring as well on Hal.

u/B_Mat Feb 27 '25
Not trying to be 'that fan'... but I really wish they would just go with the old school traditional ring. Solid green. Circle face with lantern on it. I just don't like the thick cut 'class ring/championship ring' look with just a green jewel set in it.
84
u/Keppelin Feb 27 '25
Guy Gardener has exactly that though

There's been one in the works for over five years now. It was from Berlanti and a show called "Green Lantern Corps". Then in late 2022 it was announced that Berlanti was no longer involved and it would be retooled.
Then with the DCU announcement in January 2023, they revealed it'd be an HBO drama called Lanterns.

I've never been into Green Lantern so when this comes out it'll be the first ever GL media I've watched. I'm interested.

u/SerPownce Feb 27 '25
I started watching GL The Animated Series right before it got taken off Max and I was really digging it 😭
2
3
u/What-The-Frog Batman Feb 27 '25
Same. Really hoping this is good because I like the direction they pitched. Definitely gonna give it a shot
2
u/Nerdinator2029 Feb 28 '25
GL (at least this one) was born from the optimism of the space age, the jumping into adventure with both feet that jets and rockets and space represented. At the time, western culture was exploding with the possibilities of space exploration. That's what gave us Hal, The Corps and stories with a helluva lot of creativity: the infinite possibilities of what's out there and our courage to go find out.
Hopefully this is reflected in the series. Welcome!

u/montybo2 Feb 27 '25
Aaron Pierre is like aggressively attractive. Like damn dude can you turn down the handsome for a second?
19
u/PatsyPage Feb 27 '25
So handsome. Thought he was wearing contacts until I googled him. Nope. Just blessed. We have the same birthday too.
5
u/SerSleepy Feb 27 '25
Rebel Ridge is sort of a mid movie but he's fantastic in it.
12
u/Guildenpants Feb 27 '25
I'd say it's more than mid. I fucking loved it but I also really enjoy everything that director does. He's nailed "small town violence" as far as I'm concerned.
3
u/SerSleepy Feb 28 '25
Yeah I think it was more that I was misled by the trailer? That might just be me though.
If I look at it as a thriller more than a balls to the wall action movie, it's pretty good.
2
u/Guildenpants Feb 28 '25
I get that! Since I'd seen his other films I went into it expecting a slow burn flick
→ More replies (1)3
u/PatsyPage Feb 27 '25
I’ll check it out, thanks. The only thing I’ve seen that he’s in is Old but I honestly didn’t remember him in that movie. This hairstyle suits him much better.
9
u/enadiz_reccos Feb 27 '25
I would say the Rebel Ridge storyline is mid, but the movie was kick ass.
I'm a heterosexual man, but Aaron Pierre was sexy af the whole time and just doing badass stuff. Solid action movie.
2
u/PatsyPage Feb 28 '25
I really do appreciate all the heterosexual men commenting and helping a thirsty sister out ❤️ bless

u/serb7 Feb 27 '25
Already giving true detective vibes. Have high hopes for this one
22
3
u/nattybow Feb 27 '25
Exactly what I was thinking and I believe I e heard this sentiment before in the early mentions of what they wanted to tone to be. If they pull this off with that kind of vibe with these characters, and Superman works the way Gunn is capable of, DC fans are going to eat well!
86
u/kylefisher200 Feb 27 '25
I didn't know that Aaron Pierre was so....pretty? He looks more like a runway model than a military vet and space cop. Not hating, just wasn't expecting it.
40
u/FredericBropin Feb 27 '25
If you watch him in Rebel Ridge you’ll be convinced. His physicality was amazing and he constantly felt like a threat even when he was holding back. I thought it would be generic Netflix slop but it was super entertaining and I’ll watch anything this guy does.

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 Feb 27 '25

Chandler really does look like Hal Jordan
2
u/djkhan23 Mar 02 '25
It's a good thing for everyone that Brolin passed.
Bigger star yes but I'm picky in the sense that superhero roles should be played by actors who look something like that superhero.
That's why I still consider Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier to be the GOAT superhero casting.
6
10
u/StephanieSpoiler Feb 27 '25
Seems kinda lame to have the first look at the leads of a sci-fi show just be two guys on a road in street clothes
→ More replies (1)
46
u/Shaolin_T Feb 27 '25
I’m excited for this, but I fkn hate “first looks” and it’s just the actor(s) in regular clothes doing nothing. Like you might as well just shown me a headshot of the actor and it gives the same effect of nothing.
7
u/Caesar_Rising Feb 27 '25
Same! I know he has the ring on but like c’mon, it’s just two guys standing there
7
u/Nova-Kane Feb 27 '25
I hope this isn't setting the tone for the show, there's something very 'CW' about taking a property that revolves around powerful cosmic lore and making it a domestic drama set it in a mid western town.
8
u/sinkwiththeship Feb 27 '25
That's honestly kind of my biggest problem with Green Lantern in general. Why are so many of them from Earth? They'll go to Oa and you pretty much never see a repeat species, but humans? There's like 40 of them.
6
13
8
6
u/QuietKing3344 Feb 27 '25
they better not have Hal just in this show. Jon is okay but Hal deserves a proper portrayal.
38
u/--Alix-- Feb 27 '25
Aaron Pierre looks the part, Kyle Chandler looks way different than I expected tbh. Maybe it's just the derpy face he's making lol
4
u/SaulPepper Feb 27 '25
he looks like he pulled an allnighter the day before yesterday then drank a ton yesterday and now he's suffering from both fatigue and hangover lol.

Looks promising but Hal being significantly older than John just doesn't feel right.
8
u/nosecone33 Feb 27 '25
Originally John Stewart was only 12 when Hal got his ring. Making an adaptation of Silver Age comics sounds right up Gunn's alley.
5
u/Fenian-Monger Feb 27 '25
Yeah I always pictured Hal a good bit older than John. By the time Rebirth happens Hal is seemingly de aged a bit and John is an already established Lantern veteran, so since then they've relatively been portrayed similarly in age.

Aaron is the most "that guy looks like a hollywood actor" face I've ever seen

Why do I have the feeling that Hal Jordan is gonna bite the bullet quickly.

u/LastCryptographer173 Feb 27 '25
I'm sure this will be a good show, but I really, really, really need this to be a good adaptation, too.
3
u/oldmangonzo Feb 27 '25
I don’t like the direction with Hal, I don’t like that he is too old to be a main character for long (in fact he’ll probably go all Parallax to complete Stewart’s arc). But John Stewart at least looks perfect. That casting is really on point.
3
u/MostlyAccruate Feb 27 '25 edited Feb 27 '25
quick question, why would any "Green lantern" be walking? like only of their ring is at .0001% they'd be otherwise flying or hovering> LOL IMO this small fact is where superhero movies miss beats. Yes it cuts down on CG cost, but it definitely ruins the power fantasy at the same time.
3
3
u/matticans7pointO The Red Capes Are Coming! Feb 28 '25
I know since it'll be a TV show the budget won't be as crazy but I just hope we get some good scenes with them in their actual lanterns gear and they use some interesting weapons with their rings.
3
u/Short_King_13 Feb 28 '25
Hal Jordan looks like a homeless person living in San Francisco. So that means they'll kill him off and prepare terrain for John to take over
3
3
u/Drasic67 Feb 28 '25
I can tell that they'll barely use their powers and we won't see them in uniform until the end maybe.
3
u/josephadam1 Feb 28 '25
They better not have leather suit look like on guy Gardner. Not too found of his outfit tbh.
9
7
u/SomeGuyPostingThings Feb 27 '25
They look like two ordinary men walking down a road. It doesn't look bad, but nothing impressive.
3
3
u/IKenDoThisAllDay Feb 27 '25
Oh, man. I am so unbelievably hyped for this. We're finally getting some quality Green Lantern live-action content.
You can see the ring on Hal's hand if you look closely. I don't see one on John's hand, but that could just be the angle obscuring the view.
5
5
u/LightningLad2029 Feb 27 '25
I really hope this show doesn't pull the old trope of stripping the heroes of their power for most of the series until the last episode just to cut the budget.
I understand this is a more grounded tone and that there are darker stories in the mythos, but the GL are literally space cops at the end of the day. I want to see them going of crazy space adventures protecting the galaxy, not stuck on Earth whining about how much their personal lives suck. We need more heroes that actually enjoy helping people in a time like now where everything is already so cynical.
2
u/daptoandrocephin Feb 27 '25
I hope this doesn't turn out to be more true detectives (minimal powers), than actual green lantern (suited up in action).
2
u/MrBravo22 Feb 27 '25
How I imagine them to look after seeing the synopsis.
Hal needs to get his ring resized.
2
u/MrPoopsJohnson Feb 27 '25
I pray to Mogo this isn’t trash, I need a good live action GL adaptation in my lifetime

I’m not gonna complain until I watch the show, but that ain’t John Stewart
10
u/WillowSmithsBFF Feb 27 '25
I hope this show is good but lanterns solving a mystery on earth and seemingly without their rings just sounds so boring for a freaking green lantern show
51
8
u/dudzi182 Feb 27 '25
This is the best they could do for the first image? Looks like a Lifetime movie or something
3
u/TheAquamen Feb 27 '25
... because it has human beings in frame?
2
u/dudzi182 Feb 27 '25
Mainly the unnatural lighting and no signs of it being superhero related
3
u/TheAquamen Feb 27 '25
Lifetime has cornered the non-superhero genre for too long, I wish HBO got to make some.
unnatural lighting
?
9
u/007Kryptonian Son of Krypton vs Bat of Gotham Feb 27 '25
Idk about Lifetime but I do think them suited up would’ve been a better first image.
4
u/cali4481 Feb 27 '25
After the Superman suit reveal fiasco last May I think Gunn and DC are going to be extra cautious going forward with suit reveals.
Lanterns also has been only filming for a couple of weeks and I'm guessing their Green Lantern suits will be a mix between practical and CGI.
So I doubt any scenes they have shot with both in their Green Lantern suits is fully finished with again the CGI when we first see it in it's full form probably in the trailers.
3
u/trimble197 Feb 27 '25
I mean, Gunn could’ve just released a better pic instead something that made Superman look as if he just got clocked out on a slow Monday
2
4
3
u/FlameFeather86 Feb 27 '25
Would love for Green Arrow to show up in this. If they're going veteran Hal, veteran Ollie (with goatee) would fucking rock, and wash that sour taste of the CWs Batman-in-a-hoodie away.
2
2
2
u/Speed-Tyr Feb 27 '25
Well they already messed up with casting someone that isn't looking anything like a Hal Jordon. Probably will make him a super serious character and not like his source material too.
2
u/superjerk1939 Feb 28 '25
So this is just gonna be a boring ass generic modern day crime show with them walking around, may be occasionally using their rings to pick locks and shit and maybe like five minutes of space stuff that people actually wanna see in the very last episode pass

u/Slow-Chemical1991 Feb 27 '25
The show is literally the awful Beware My Power movie down to pushing Hal Jordan aside as the guy out and giving Kyle Rayner's role as the rookie to John Stewart. I knew WB was incompetent, but I never knew they were THIS incompetent.

u/periodic_disturbance Feb 27 '25
Is this an AI image or are these two gentlemen really that perfect?
1
u/Character-Archer4863 Feb 27 '25
I am excited for all of this shit. I haven’t followed DC (outside of the normal Batman stuff). I have no idea who the green lanterns are (outside of casual information like they can use the ring to project stuff).
I’m getting pumped for the DCU like I did for the beginning of Marvel.
1
u/Rezzen_Darko Feb 27 '25
They look good, seem to be in good shape. Hopefully they play the parts really well. I really want this show to work.

I really am though looking forward to this. I want it to work so bad, we need a great GL story in live action.
