POLL DCU's Flash.
Do y'all think Wally West should be the main Flash of the new DC Universe? If so, why?

I want him to be the main Flash, but not the first Flash.
Never been a fan of Wally as the Flash without him first being Kid Flash. Obviously it happens, but that's not my ideal origin.
They could streamline it and go the Justice League cartoon route of just not having Barry, but that's meh to me.
If they want to go the Batman route they plan of just skipping a bunch of versions to get to this, that's perfectly alright with me! I just want it to have happened, we don't need to see it rn.

that's why the idea of a retired Jay Garrick mentoring Wally is a great idea

Wouldn't that feel a little too similar to Lanterns?

Hal Jordan is still active in the Lanterns show

Sure but it's still an old Lantern mentoring a new, younger Lantern.
Kinda similar.

Hate to be a dick, but is there some difference between them besides the name?

Wally is a lot better. So much better that pretty much every version of Barry thatās not the comics writes Barry like heās Wally

Like,Wally is funnier and stuff?

Yeah, Barry was the start and end of the Silver age, he was always more cheesy and āoldā but Wally really got the modern storytelling and felt younger and more relatable to the youths of the 90s

Thanks your for your answer,it was clear and straight to the point.(The OP couldn't give an answer so they just told me to "go read the comics")

I would recommend that as well but itās just not the best way to teach someone something to say āgo learn it yourselfā

15-20 years ago I would've said definitely. But since DC bungled things bringing Barry back, resetting the universe, wrecking Wally's history before also bringing him back... it's really complicated things. Anyway, I know the comics are different from the films, but they do try to synchronize the main characters in the films with the comics for accessibility's sake (we can debate whether that's necessary or not but it's what they do).
Personally I think it'd be cool to have Barry as an older Flash (akin to the older Hal in Lanterns) and he dies in a later film and Wally takes up the mantle. I think legacy is a vital part of DC and it'd be a nice way to showcase that in film. Plus it raises the stakes more when you show main characters can perish, and allows the movie universe to keep rolling along for a bit longer (if interest doesn't fizzle out).

Thereās been an over saturation of Barry but I donāt think he should be completely ignored like the DCAU. Have him get a movie with Wally and kill him off at the end of it leading to Wally officially joining the JL
Also it would be really fun if the MCU did Buried Alien

that's why the idea of a retired Jay Garrick mentoring Wally is a great idea. No Barry please

I want Barry simply so that he can finally be characterized correctly. Weāve gotten young Barry since forever and I want corny 60s dad Barry just once

No. It makes no sense without Barry preceding him and Wally being Kid Flash. Unless you're going to tell that story, I don't see the point of skipping Barry.

Given that it's more than likely Jon Stewart is going to be the main GL and Hal Jordan is going to be dead/retired it makes sense for it to be Wally rather than Barry honestly.

A this point Iām ready to treat Barry like Jay or Alan. Still around sometimes, maybe even has his own series sometimes, but not on the League and not in the main ongoing.

I'd be surprised if he isn't. Differs from the DCEU and Barry having already been around fits the DCU having a long history of heroes.

Yes, because we've had too much Barry. He got a nine season TV show and a movie. It's Wally's time to shine. I think, to do some fancasting, Neil Patrick Harris could be a good Barry (basing this off Barry and Hal being around the same age) and KJ Apa as Wally (basing this off Wally and John being around the same age)
