Video Mickey Mouse has an animation rule that requires both of his ears to always be in parallel even in 3D animated space.

I don't know if parallel is the right word. It's more like always coplanar and equidistant in every frame

Coplaner and normal to the cameras normal at all times <mickey head explosion emoji>

We all knew what OP meant, though. No one has a clue what you’re talking about - even if it’s technically correct.
And therein lies the difference.

Coplanar and equidistant are much better descriptions for Mickey's ears than parallel. To me they look perpendicular

You're one of those people who thinks "literally" doesn't mean "literally" anymore, aren't you?

they stay parallel with the camera
They look perpendicular to me, if the camera was parallel, then you wouldnt see Mickey.
If anything they are parallel to the Lens of the camera, which Is different.
As a human its perpendicular to you and parallel to your retina.

Jessie from Pokémon's hair too, usually. So that it makes an "R". https://imgur.com/a/bfsSu1X

How did we not notice this before?

In animation college in the 70’s, I chose to do the “animate a head turn” assignment using Mickey Mouse. The flat ears looked so strange, and the shifting discs looked even stranger. There was no right way to animate him 360. I should have chosen Goofy

Was that true in Kingdome Hearts?

The first one had the rule and subsequent KH left it out. The devs at THQ Nordic adhered to the rule in Epic Mickey as seen here.

Schrödinger's mouse ears.
They face in all directions in a quantum state until observed.

I love gaining knowledge. This is one fact I won't gain, because IDGAF. Not interesting.
