to steelman this: I think we can all agree that Trump's first-term advisors prevented him from doing all this insane stuff. Maybe Bessent thought he was going to be Mnuchin instead of Scaramucci.

I think a lot about that one anonymous quote from his first term that was something like “you guys have no idea how much really crazy stuff we kill”. Have a feeling we’re gonna find out this time…

People forget, or don't realize because they don't keep up with the news, that Trump literally wanted to launch missiles into Mexico to stop the cartels. This is the kind of thing that got pushback in his first term and I guess in his second term we'd just be bombing Mexico.

What the hell did they think was gonna happen?

They thought trump wasn't serious about the Tarriffs and wouldn't double down. These worms are just evil not evil geniuses they only look intelligent in compared to trump.

This will drive markets lower on Monday. Market was counting on him to be an adult in the room.

Yep just a reminder as always that the market is forward looking. The drop the last two days were not the extent of economic damage from the tariffs, they have priced in the possibility that the bad economic news will get Trump to reverse course. If he stays the course expect the last two days to look like a small blip.

I was really surprised that it took this long to get a big reaction. I think that it will have to fall 20% total before we start seeing serious action. I’m not sure what that is but anywhere from the bill to make tariffs exclusively under the purview of congress to a full blown coup.

I think we’ll see a pattern similar to 87, where there was a 9ish % drop on the preceding Thursday/Friday and then a 20%+ drop on the following Monday.

The extra funny party is that he thinks: Trump would put him on the Fed, that he would be safe from Trump’s tyranny on the Fed, and that his credibility hasn’t already changed

The same Scott Bessent who said "The American Dream was never about being able to buy things"?

Translation: Bessent's social and personal life are imploding as the gay community excommunicates him for his complicity with fascism and the reckless, incompetent MAGA movement that's crashing the economy with mass layoffs and inflation tariffs.
