Downtown Heroes

I have a couple posts here about hard times in Eugene and there are two people I want to speak about.

There is a woman that works for the Dining Room. She is kind and fair, even in what can be a stressful environment. When I check in with her she always remembers my name even if I disappeared for awhile. She always says it's good to see me, even at my worst. I know she cares about me and a lot of other people.

There is a security guard at the library. He is respectful and calm, calmer than most people I've ever met. He is a natural at deescalation.

I really love our library, I was always sure to be doing my best by the public space. He and I had a mutual respect and he would put his hand on his chest and bow slightly. He did this with everybody.

In my really hard times these people going about the course of their everyday lives really made a difference to me for years.

i won't forget these people. They are important to this community.

There’s good people out there, they just quietly go about their lives doing the kind thing. Sadly the most hateful are the loudest because we live in a time with no shame. And you’re right, the kind are important to have in any community, especially this one.

Vote for the fire fee if you love the library.

I know both folks you mention. The guy at the library - the older gray bearded and gray haired guy that is so nice and always smiles. When I lived by the library and would walk my dog I always counter on his warmth and friendly hello.

As a crisis worker in town, I second both of these highly

Great post. Please remember those people probably find your effort to be a bright light in their days as well. Things can be better, please keep trying

I love this so much. Thank you for taking the time to recognize them and also for being a positive person in their day, too.
